To think 7.30 is too early?

Council have gardeners out on stand on mowers, and with strimmers on the grass right underneath peoples windows at 7.30am! Slept with windows open last night because of heat and am not impressed at the sheer level of noise of both machines going off at once at this time. I thought it had to be after 8 (which to me personally is still too early but I don't make the rules) more than anything else it was just a horrible way to wake up.

730 in a heatwave is ok with me.

Palavah · 12/07/2022 07:56

How do you expect them to get the work done? I'd prefer them to be doing it early, and finish earlier.

In this heat it makes sense for them to start early.

thechiefstew · 12/07/2022 07:57

It’s going to be really hot today, better they get it done first thing in the cool of the day. Weekends I think they start later, but week days we often have bins/outdoor works starting early.

ohidoliketobe · 12/07/2022 07:57

Would you be complaining the council had gritted the roads before 8am in winter?

JemimaPuddleducksWaddle · 12/07/2022 07:59

Any time after 7 is ok.

The requirements for noise levels are 11pm and 7am.

It's also currently a heatwave. Best to get it done before heat gets bad.

Sirzy · 12/07/2022 07:59

Given the temperatures due today I think it’s much better for them to start jobs like that early.

Ifailed · 12/07/2022 07:59

Someone in the council made the right decision, get the work done before the hottest part of the day. Most people will be up and about at 7:30.

pogostickplastique · 12/07/2022 08:01

I googled it and apparently the time to carry out 'unavoidable work' is 8am - 7pm on weekdays. They obviously started much earlier than 7.30 as our end of the street is normally nearer the end of their 'route'

They only cut it at random intervals when they feel like it anyway so no one would and noticed if they'd not bothered because of the heat rather than start so early.

Bastard birds had me awake from 4.30am so 7.30 feels like lunchtime

Soubriquet · 12/07/2022 08:05

7.30 on a weekday is fine. On a weekend it’s pushing it

CuriousCatfish · 12/07/2022 08:06

Poor you having to wake up at 7.30 on a working week day.

Firesidefox · 12/07/2022 08:06

Any time after 7 is fine.

Pottedpalm · 12/07/2022 08:09

Far better for the workmen to get the work done while it is cool. Would you want to be sitting on a mower with no shade in the broiling heat??

LifeInsideMyhead · 12/07/2022 08:13

Sounds v sensible in the heat.

Its a time most people will be up for school /work so there's bound to be noise in the area anyway.

yikesanotherbooboo · 12/07/2022 08:14

I wouldn't mind because I am always up then and as per your remark I think of 8.00 am as being acceptable anyway.
I would cut them slack in a heatwave. They can't put the work off because that causes delays in work later in the year. If it's only sporadic then Does it really matter? My DS works outdoors and the team are having to start at 6.00 at the moment for safety reasons.

RampantIvy · 12/07/2022 08:14

If you had worked a nightshift you would have my sympathy, but 7.30 on a weekday is a lie in for me, so YABU.

WinterMusings · 12/07/2022 08:15

I'm waking up at 4:30 every bloidy day at the moment, so I'm envious if your 7:30.

That aside, they need to get an early start in the heatwave, poor buggers, it's ok you saying they could leave it, but they need to do some somewhere, no reason why not yours!

no idea if your shift work or what, but 7:30 in the week, most people are at least awake if not ready to leave for nursery drop offs/work.

it would be churlish to complain to the council.

silver lining, they won't be back for a while!!

JassyRadlett · 12/07/2022 08:18

I think their physical safety probably trumps your sleep - for people who aren't used to
working in this kind of heat, starting outdoor jobs earlier so they don't have to be working in the hottest part of the day is very sensible.

Harridance · 12/07/2022 08:20

8am is the official work start time with our council, I agree 7 30 is too early

TheDepthsOfDespair · 12/07/2022 08:20

Yabu - I’m not up by 7.30 as I’m a rubbish morning person, live next door to school and wfh. But it’s really not early for a weekday.

chilledbubble · 12/07/2022 08:22

Nope, same as the refuse collectors, in this heat I think its a perfectly reasonable adjustment to their working hours. I'd rather that than have them have to work in the hottest part of the day and get ill.

chilledbubble · 12/07/2022 08:23

There will be some sort of schedule/plan they don't just drive about cutting random grass.

SweatyAndGrumpy · 12/07/2022 08:28

I honestly think it's an ok time on a weekday, regardless - but the heat makes the early start very sensible.

If the council have pulled forward the time to help keep their workers safe then I would think better of them for it.

Sally872 · 12/07/2022 08:29

Yes on a weekday 7.30 is reasonable. Though i would also find it annoying. Good news you are nornally on end of their route.

PritiPatelsMaker · 12/07/2022 08:32

I'd much rather then be working early than having t work at the hottest part of the day.
