To think 7.30 is too early?

Council have gardeners out on stand on mowers, and with strimmers on the grass right underneath peoples windows at 7.30am! Slept with windows open last night because of heat and am not impressed at the sheer level of noise of both machines going off at once at this time. I thought it had to be after 8 (which to me personally is still too early but I don't make the rules) more than anything else it was just a horrible way to wake up.

7:30 sounds entirely reasonable, especially with the heat later in the day. If the noise is causing you problems, you could try keeping ear plugs near your bed for situations like this.

RainCoffeeBook · 12/07/2022 08:49

Most people with jobs are already up.

Els1e · 12/07/2022 08:54

Yabvu.

coffeecupsandfairylights · 12/07/2022 08:57

YABVU, especially with this heat.

I work outdoors too and when it's hot, I always start my day early to avoid the midday sun. It's not only unpleasant doing a physical job in the heat, it's potentially really dangerous, especially if you can't access any shade or water.

Be grateful you're not the one sweating your tits off on a hot plastic mower in the direct sunshine all day long 🙄

ThettaReddast · 12/07/2022 08:57

Reasonable given the forecast. Our council has asked everyone to get their bins out early this week as the refuse collectors will be going out early to avoid the heat, makes sense for their other workers to to the same if they can.

KingofLoss · 12/07/2022 08:57

Yeah, it's fine. That's a pretty normal time to be up and about and people who don't want to wake up early have the option of white noise or earplugs while they sleep.

As others have said, far better they start and finish early so that they're at less risk of the midday sun. I'm sure management will have signed them off to start earlier due to the projected heat.

savemeagin · 12/07/2022 08:59

If I had the privilege of still being in bed at 7.30, it wouldn't bother me hearing the grass being mowed, the same as it doesn't bother me hearing the bins being emptied. I just roll over and thank heavens I'm not working that day when many others are.
Think of the positives rather than looking for something to moan about.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 12/07/2022 09:01

7.30 is still nighttime for me :).

Far, far too early.

Would it kill them to leave the grass until it has cooled down a little?

RedWingBoots · 12/07/2022 09:01

Spanielsarepainless · 12/07/2022 08:37

It's so hot they need to get it done before things really warm up. Our binmen were here shortly after 6 this morning, but I was already up.

The earliest I've heard our refuse and recycling collectors is 5.30am.

I actually prefer them to come at that time as then their lorries don't block the local roads around 8am when everyone is trying to get places. (Plus they bloody stink especially in hot weather.)

What at midnight?

Bastard birds had me awake from 4.30am so 7.30 feels like lunchtime

Lol, same here. At least its small birds chirrupping where I am, once we went camping it and it was crows squawking which was awful!

On a hot weekday I wouldn't be offended by noise at 7.30am.
However we used to live in an ex LA block and once council maintenance came round at 8.30am on Good Friday to paint the door frames. It was pre kids and we hadn't got up. then we had to leave the front door open right next to the bathroom from 8.30 while they did it and for a few hours while it dried!🤣

silvermarble · 12/07/2022 09:05

It’s fine. Our bin men are here at 6am every week.

Wotsitagain · 12/07/2022 09:05

Jesus wept. They can't win. All I see on local groups is people moaning about how the council don't get round to mowing quick enough and when they do it, they're apparently still wrong. How much difference is 30 minutes going to make to your life? You'd rather they work outside through the hottest part of the heatwave so you can get an extra 30 mins.

Figgygal · 12/07/2022 09:09

As a one off in a heatwave get over yourself

It was still 26 degrees here at 7pm last night!

What time do you want them to come - midnight?

MrsLargeEmbodied · 12/07/2022 09:10

bin men are starting at 6.30 due to heat.
ddog has got into a pattern of waking me at 5.45, to play

pogostickplastique · 12/07/2022 09:12

Maybe u just wish they hadn't chosen to start the mower right under my open bedroom window with no warning so that I didn't have to start my day climbing down off the ceiling in fright.

OP posts:
WeAreBob · 12/07/2022 09:12

It's a weekday so they expect most people to he up. There are exceptions with shift workers but schedules for council work go by the majority so it's up early for these things.

But I feel your pain. My kids are at their dad's for a couple days, which only happens maybe 3 times a year so I never get mornings alone. I too today off work just for a day to myself and so I could recover from feeling so burned out. I live in amongst grazing farmland and other than traffic using the roads through it, there shouldn't really be any noise. I was worken up at 8am by my dad arriving with his lawnmower and cutting my grass. To help out.

I'm furious but cant be because he is cutting my grass... at 8am... on my only day off and alone... when I didnt even ask him to.

Wexone · 12/07/2022 09:14

our Council have winter and summer hours. In winter start at half 8 and finish at half 4 for all outdoor work and in summer it extends to 7:30am to 5:30pm to allow extra work to be done in good weather when its brighter for longer.
To me it makes complete sense to do the work at this time. Its a week day.

NotMyselfWithoutCoffee · 12/07/2022 09:16

On a weekday 7:30 is reasonable most people are up for work/school by then.
I think you're being a bit precious, I'm up at 5:30 every day myself.. to sleep in on a workday until 7am would be a lie in.

Oh dear a horrible way for you to wake up, as a one off. Hope your day gets better.

You would rather they were out there at midday so as not to upset your morning routine?

Your kindness knows no bounds.
