To think Prince George should not be wearing a jacket and tie?

He's at Wimbledon, it's very hot - can't help thinking he should be in a nice cool polo shirt. I know it's none of my beeswax really I was just pondering.

OP posts:

There is a dress code for the Royal Box - of course he has to stick to it. I was on Centre Court yesterday and the Royal Box was in the shade for the duration of the Men's Final - it was absolutely fine.

Emmelina · 11/07/2022 11:05

He’s just following the dress code. Though William is in a light-coloured suit, likely because it’s cooler! So I don’t see why George is stuck in a dark suit that absorbs heat.

antelopevalley · 11/07/2022 11:08

They stick George in a suit and tie even on occasions where the official dress code says it does not apply to under twelves.
Only such an outdated institution could treat young children as if they are adults.
And the dress code for the Royal Box is for adults. It talks about men and women, not children.

3amAndImStillAwake · 11/07/2022 11:21

And the dress code for the Royal Box is for adults. It talks about men and women, not children.

That's probably because no children are allowed in the royal box, except for royal children.

antelopevalley · 11/07/2022 11:23

So the Royal Family can make the rules about what the children wear.
They make the rules up all the time anyway.

TheDepthsOfDespair · 11/07/2022 11:26

I saw a video yesterday of them arriving at Wimbledon and George saying he was hit. Kate and also the man who was guiding them reassured him that he would be cool once he got in the box as there are shades etc and it’s comfortable in there.
I'm sure he was fine.

TheDepthsOfDespair · 11/07/2022 11:26

Hot, not hit!

antelopevalley · 11/07/2022 11:29

All those saying they are sure he was fine - maybe he was. But many of you have made clear George's comfort is immaterial anyway. All that matters is that he follows some archaic dress code designed for adults.

I think you’ll find they don’t.

But he wasn't forced to be there. Given the enthusiasm he showed I have no doubt he wanted to go, he didn't look fed up or bored, and after Louis at the Jubilee I have no doubt Will & Kate wouldn't risk further antics and force a child to go to an event they had no interest in. In all likelihood they had a chat with him before and said you can attend the match but these are the rules you will have to follow, and George thought "yep I want to see the match".

I think you will find they do, even rewriting the rules about essential responsibilities of the monarch.

antelopevalley · 11/07/2022 12:04

@SummaLuvin I am glad if he enjoyed it. But lets not pretend that George as an 8 year old decides what events he is going to attend and how he spends his days.

Funkyblues101 · 11/07/2022 12:06

Several sporting events only relax the dress code once temps top eg 35 degrees. Think the swanky enclosures at Ascot, Henley and, as we have seen, Wimbledon. As with all mad costume events, if you don't like it, don't go.

Blossomtoes · 11/07/2022 12:08

That isn’t what’s happened. The Queen’s health is preventing her from fulfilling all duties so has delegated some to her heir. The responsibilities remain exactly the same.

antelopevalley · 11/07/2022 12:14

You are wrong. The responsibilities of the monarch have been rewritten.
It has been done because the Queen can no longer fulfill her responsibilities. Charles is covering what she can not do. But they have been rewritten.
It is a pragmatic solution to a situation of a monarch who can no longer do the job, but refuses to retire. So I am not against this pragmatic solution. But it remains fact that the monarchs responsibilities have been rewritten.
I started a post on it with clear links proving this is what has happened.

Theoneinthemiddle · 11/07/2022 12:19

Thank you OP because I felt like this then wondered if I was being unfair. He’s a child! Plenty of time for suit and tie later! The optics of him looking relaxed in a nice polo shirt would be better anyway.

Blossomtoes · 11/07/2022 12:21

The responsibilities of the monarch have been rewritten

No they haven’t. They’re exactly the same, they’re just temporarily being shared by two people.

antelopevalley · 11/07/2022 12:29

"Queen's job description has been rewritten."

"Duties she must fulfill as a monarch" have been rewritten.

Charles is now doing those. But the Monarch's responsibilities have been rewritten. Even though some keep insisting this is not true.
What happened before this rewriting is that Charles and others covered the Monarch's duties when she was not well enough to. But now the Queen's duties have been formally rewritten so it does not matter if she is well or not, she does not have to do them.

It makes a welcome relief to see a child that age that looks so smart.

Why? Why do 9 year old kids need to look smart? How weird.

From your link

A palace source emphasised on Saturday night that it was not a “drastic” change, but a small update.

The headline is completely misleading.

You make me laugh. The Monarchsjob description has been rewritten for pragmatic reasons. But you say the change is described in a misleading way because a palace source gives their opinion about the change?

The Monarch's job description has been rewritten, that is a fact.
So the idea that a young child HAS to wear a suit and tie on a very hot day because that is "tradition" is frankly bollocks.
The Royal Family are choosing to make George wear a suit and tie. It is a choice.

Blossomtoes · 11/07/2022 12:49

It hasn’t. It remains exactly the same. It’s now a job share using exactly the same job description.

LadyKenya · 10/07/2022 17:40

Well he could have stayed home with the nanny, if he was not willing to wear the suit. If that is the dress code for the Royal box, then he was correctly dressed.

Can I remind you that Prince George is not the OP, he's not complaining?

You can look smart and be appropriately dressed for hot weather!

Florenz · 10/07/2022 18:22

He is our future King and needs to dress in a kingly fashion. He cannot show up to Wimbledon dressed in tracksuit bottoms and a short sleeved t-shirt.

Kingly fashion??? GrinGrin
