He's at Wimbledon, it's very hot - can't help thinking he should be in a nice cool polo shirt. I know it's none of my beeswax really I was just pondering.

On one hand MN is all let children be children then on the other hand they are quite happy to see an 8 year old dressed like a mini adult.

Your argument doesn’t really work given the current trend for adults to dress themselves and their children in ‘leisurewear’

TulipCat · 10/07/2022 19:40

Oh yawn. How many more years are people going to be trotting this one out every time a royal child attends a sporting event in a box/enclosure has a dress code that they adhere to? Royal children are not going to live an ordinary life, and they start preparing for that from a young age. Jog on.

He’s in direct line for the throne, but does anyone actually expect us to still have a monarchy when his time comes.

Those are Wimbledon rules for the Royal Box surely?

Why don't they need rules. Who says people shouldn't be allowed to dress according to the weather. What right have they got to make ppl suffer and be overdressed on a hot day. Stuffy and outdated. Nobody has the right to impose a dress code.

IcedPurple · 10/07/2022 19:45

Nobody has the right to impose a dress code.

And nobody has the right to attend the Men's Final at Wimbledon.

Of course they do, stupid thing to say.

Nobody has the right to insist people wear a shirt and tie on a sweltering hot day idiot's.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 10/07/2022 20:05

I think provided he's got shorts on as well it is fine, but otherwise it is not necessary to be showing off the orbs and sceptre just yet.

They only have the 'right' to attend if they abide by the rules set by the organisers of the event, one of which may be a dress code.

They do if they are the organisers of a private event.

Ellie56 · 10/07/2022 20:09

Not sure where I read it but apparently Prince George absolutely idolises his dad and wants to wear the same as him.

IcedPurple · 10/07/2022 20:12

William also wore a suit when he attended Wimbledon with his mother at about the same age George is now. If it had traumatised him that much I doubt he would insist that his son did the same.

A private event they do and everyone did. Didn't see any empty seats

Why would they want to do that though?
Why inflict torture on someone by making them overdress in 30 degrees.

You don't think you're being just a tad melodramatic here?

I’m more annoyed that an 8 year old child got the best seat in the house at one of the years best sporting events, for the mere achievement of being born

Ha! Quite! I was well Jel at their front row seats.

Particularly as has already been said, Centre Court has shades and air conditioning/cooled airflow pumped around.

Yet still they go on about it being so very, very hot there. He's not going to be walking back to catch a tube from Wimbledon Station. He's going from airconditioned Centre Court to airconditioned car.

Why do people have too wear suits. What is wrong on a hot day with a smart open neck shirt with short sleeves.

Why do you need a strict stuffy dress code?

Bunnycat101 · 10/07/2022 21:50

I thought it looked very uncomfortable for him. No one would have batted an eyelid if he’d had a blazer and no tie.

It is a dress code, everyones adhered to it. You don't like it, if you are invited to the royal box, then you don't go.

Obviously no one turned it down as the area was packed.

Nothing in the right place but it doesn’t comply with that particular dress code which stipulates a jacket and tie. Formal shirts look awful with short sleeves, long and rolled to the elbow works.

To stop people turning up inappropriately dressed in short sleeved shirts.

My DS wore a blazer and tie at every opportunity at that age. I've got pics of him on the beach in swim shorts and waistcoat. Hmm

I am so intrigued by this!! How on earth did he come by a waistcoat at the beach? Is that what you packed in your bag for the day (we normally bring a few towels, swim stuff, bucket and spade etc.. Just wondering the events which would lead up to this scenario!!...)

HappyDays40 · 10/07/2022 22:58

The parent thought it was cute so packed it.
