To think Prince George should not be wearing a jacket and tie?

He's at Wimbledon, it's very hot - can't help thinking he should be in a nice cool polo shirt. I know it's none of my beeswax really I was just pondering.

Didn't we have the exact same thread at the Euros last year?

😂Tbf he’s going to be rolled up to every major event so probably

antelopevalley · 10/07/2022 18:54

He is wearing a suit and tie because he is working.
Children in the Royal Family work.
At least Anne shielded her own kids from this nonsense.

100problems · 10/07/2022 18:59

My DS would've been chuffed to bits to watch Djokovic at age 9 (before D went Covid crazy). The dress code is smart, he's sitting in the box. It's not like he looks unhappy is it?

Topgub · 10/07/2022 19:01

@antelopevalley

Its hardly work.

Topgub · 10/07/2022 17:27

I'm more concerned about how spoilt and ridiculously privileged for no good reason he is than what he's wearing.

They've always dressed their kids stupidly imo, why change now?

I agree. Royal family has no play in the society in which we live in today. Such a division of wealth is sickening.

'Shielded' them from the 'nonsense' of a top seat at one of the biggest sports events of the year?

And getting to meet the winner and hold the trophy afterwards?

Vikinga · 10/07/2022 19:05

My 12 year old won't take his hoodie off and is wearing joggers and a t shirt too. I'm sweltering in shorts and tshirt. We're at home so no per pressure

Blossomtoes · 10/07/2022 19:08

There are families considerably richer than the Windsors. Some of them are MPs, are you sickened by them too?

mathanxiety · 10/07/2022 19:08

The entire protocol thing is silly and terrible PR.

Nothing screams 'This is an irrelevant institution' like the sight of a child dressed in a suit watching sport on a hot day.

BlodynGwyn · 10/07/2022 19:13

I remember when his dad took him to a football match and people were saying he should have been wearing England's kit, like the players. How silly is that, I thought. He looks lovely and is being trained for a life of duty, unlike other little boys.

mathanxiety · 10/07/2022 19:14

@Fluffymule - he can get used to wearing suits when he's an adult just like the millions of Americans who don't even wear school uniform.

How does wearing appropriate clothing for formal occasions fifteen years from now require training beginning in childhood? It's not hard to pick a suit and tie, and he'll have a valet if he's really stumped.

FilePhoto · 10/07/2022 19:16

Natsku · 10/07/2022 17:32

That's adorable! Eccentric and adorable! My youngest wears a suit every Friday because its something we started doing during lockdown to brighten things up (Formal Fridays) but he's still young enough to wear what I choose (he chooses his own tie/bowtie though)

He was so cute! he still is I'm lucky if he changes out of his lounge shorts these days.

And this is totally outing if you know me but...
He asked for a blazer one year like the ones in Glee (the ones the warblers wear) but "English". Luckily our local school uniform shop was closing down so I managed to get a blazer for one of the private schools for about £3. I hand sewed red, white and blue ribbon around the edges and replaced the school badge with a Union jack badge. The things we do for our kids! Grin

Couldn't agree with you more. Utterly daft.

Ridiculous and out dated, Just like the rest of the Royal family.

Those are Wimbledon rules for the Royal Box surely?

He’s wearing appropriate clothing now. There’s a dress code in the Royal Box. There’d be an absolute outcry about entitlement if he was exempted from it. Poor bloody royals just can’t win.

CallmeMrsPricklepants · 10/07/2022 19:20

Never understood the notion of royals sticking to royal protocol. Surely they're the people who make it up so they can change it whenever they want?

I would love an outrageous monarch. Philip was quite fun. I kind of want mad king George, really get our money's worth. Boring suits and boring people.

antelopevalley · 10/07/2022 19:21

They change the rules when it suits them.

He is eight years old. I have never been anywhere where men have to wear suits, where that is also expected of eight year olds.

girlfriend44 · 10/07/2022 19:26

I agree with you they are all overdressed not just George. It's a hot day let them where some smart but cool summer clothing.
It's stuffy and not necessary. Yanbu.

Poor wee fucker, at his age I'd have been playing under the sprinkler in the garden in my pants

If I had a sprinkler, I might have done that myself today.

Luckily, lack of one spared my neighbours that unedifying spectacle.

Needmorelego · 10/07/2022 19:30

It's only what 1000s of children (some as young as 4) have to wear every school day at their state schools.
Apparently (according to many mumsnetters) this blazer/tie combo is vitally important for the nation's children because it teaches them to be ready for work. Which is interesting because I was on a rush hour train on last week heading into London Bridge station - so a high proportion of the passengers would be 'city' workers - and I could probably count the amount of people wearing a blazer and tie on one hand.
If Prince George had been suffering from the heat I am sure he would have been removed to a cooler area unlike if a school child begs to be able to remove their blazer it's all "oh no no no".
Ironically Prince George's school in Battersea summer uniform for boys seems to be shorts and short sleeve shirts.

FinallyHere · 10/07/2022 19:34

CruCru · 10/07/2022 18:04

I wonder whether these are just what he wears when he’s working. The rest of the time (when he’s not being photographed) he wears shorts and a polo shirt - making him less easy to recognise by the general public.

My hunch would be exactly this ^

Bollindger · 10/07/2022 19:36

Have you noticed how George reacted to the England Goal, he was ecstatic, only a child who REALLY football would be this way. He probably watches it at home with his Dad, and apparently he begged to go and see the game.
His mum plays tennis at home, want to be he plays against her as they have a court.
I recon if you watch is face at Wimbledon you will find he wants to be there.
He is wearing the right thing for the seat he is sitting in, and a child of his age can understand that sometimes you need to look smart, i remember my brother at wore his tie and Jacket and chance he got..
Also I bet there is shade and plenty of drinks to keep him cool, so let him be.
