To think Prince George should not be wearing a jacket and tie?

He's at Wimbledon, it's very hot - can't help thinking he should be in a nice cool polo shirt. I know it's none of my beeswax really I was just pondering.

William also wore a suit when he attended Wimbledon with his mother at about the same age George is now. If it had traumatised him that much I doubt he would insist that his son did the same.

It is time to move on with such stupid traditions

Blossomtoes · 11/07/2022 00:40

Why? What harm does it do?

EmeraldShamrock1 · 11/07/2022 00:43

He looked really smart.

In this heat a lighter outfit would have been better.

I was roasting in a vest top with shorts.

If he wants to go, that's what the dress code for the Royal Box says he must wear.

Exactly.

Kids can meet standards or stay home.

He's the future King of England.

What the hell do you want him to wear? Jeans and baseball trainers?! lol.

He looked great.

You simply cannot compare George to a normal child.

Not not jeans but why not some smart shorts and top on a hot day. It's torture for everyone to dress like that. Just cos someone on a power trip thinks they should.

cakeorwine · 11/07/2022 07:49

I notice the papers have pictures of George sweating.
For some reason.

Still, standards and all that.

I hope he rebels as a teenager, goes through a moody phase, and can't be bothered to attend such events or put on a 'stupid suit'

SleeplessInEngland · 11/07/2022 07:51

I don’t envy his childhood. So many long events where he must be bored shitless.

cakeorwine · 11/07/2022 07:58

All the people talking about dress code for the Royal Box.

I don't think anyone would have prevented George from wearing more appropriate clothing. Or William for that matter.

It makes me so so sad, the youth of today never seem to dress up for anything. The joy, and yes I do mean joy of shopping with your friends to go out on a Saturday night, getting made up and looking classy to go to a nightclub. Or as a child wearing a pretty dress and suited and booted for the boys to go to a daily event, and both my brother's loved looking like my handsome dad. Standards have now slipped so much PJs, at the shops or school... sad sad sad.

I am so intrigued by this!! How on earth did he come by a waistcoat at the beach? Is that what you packed in your bag for the day (we normally bring a few towels, swim stuff, bucket and spade etc.. Just wondering the events which would lead up to this scenario!!...)

He got dressed before we left the house. Is that so unusual? Confused

Personally I don't think this has gone at all. I know lots of kids who enjoy shopping and dressing up.

However, the numbers of boys under 10 finding 'joy' in shopping for blazers and ties and wearing them at the height summer would always have been extremely limited.

They can't win really. The youth of today. They dress up to see the Minions film and cinemas won't let them in! 😂

MrsLargeEmbodied · 11/07/2022 09:10

i am sure it is not a polyester suit from asda

and he got to hold the trophy and meet djokovic

Why would anyone get dressed up to go to the supermarket or school? You say no-one makes an effort for events, but then slate what they wear to school or to go shopping? I'd think anyone suited and booted for the Tesco shop was a bit nuts! Those people probably do get dressed up for actual events. I do, but doing nursery drop offs, I usually wear the first joggers and t-shirt that come to hand.
I work in education and students always dress up for awards ceremonies and special events when they wouldn't for normal classes, been out for dinner and lunch recently and most people were dressed up, always looks like 99% of people have made an effort to dress nicely if I'm driving past bars/clubs in nearby town in the evening.

easyday · 11/07/2022 09:34

I noticed the linesmen were wearing their cardis - maybe it's true Wimbledon has its own climate and it was somehow cooler than everywhere else!

Nice bit of snobbery there.

MrsSkylerWhite · 11/07/2022 10:29

Who cares?

AuntieMarys · 11/07/2022 10:30

He could have worn shorts and a polo top. At least he wasn't in the romper things they used to inflict on him.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 11/07/2022 10:32

I think it's a bit daft gentleman can't remove their jackets when suited.

Not if he wanted to be in the Royal box, he couldn’t.

TheKeatingFive · 11/07/2022 10:48

Not if he wanted to be in the Royal box, he couldn’t.

Youd think they could relax the rules a bit for an 8 year old.

He looked sweltered poor kid.

SpringRainbow · 11/07/2022 10:50

Pretty sure whatever he wore someone would come along and say it was wrong.

You are criticising them for dressing him in a suit, however it he wore shorts and a T-shirt there would be outrage at them daring to dress him casually in the royal box 🙄

vera99 · 11/07/2022 10:55

When they pay their fair share of tax and the tabloids don't shove their family narrative down our throats at every moment of national peril to shore up the Establishment which they are at the very pinnacle. I will give a shit. Until then they irritate the fuck out of me.

CockingASnook · 11/07/2022 11:02

You simply cannot compare George to a normal child.

He is absolutely a normal child, but one that’s being raised in an utterly outdated and weird institution. I’d have thought that a polo shirt and shorts would have been ideal for the occasion rather than his Mini-Me outfit.
