To think Prince George should not be wearing a jacket and tie?

He's at Wimbledon, it's very hot - can't help thinking he should be in a nice cool polo shirt. I know it's none of my beeswax really I was just pondering.

I would assume there is some air con in the box?

I was playing tennis earlier (haha not at Wimbledon) and thought I was going to pass out.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 10/07/2022 17:40

Presumably he chose to be there

I can't feel to sorry for him, he'll get to go to any concert , theatre, sporting event he ever wants to attend. He'll just have to wear a jacket and tie for some of them 🤷‍♀️

LadyKenya · 10/07/2022 17:40

Well he could have stayed home with the nanny, if he was not willing to wear the suit. If that is the dress code for the Royal box, then he was correctly dressed.

InChocolateWeTrust · 10/07/2022 17:41

Don't know why they couldn't have left him at home.

Some 9 year olds who are into sport would be pretty keen on Wimbledon finals tickets!! He probably plays a bit and will be pretty smug about having gone when he chats to friends at school.

My DS wore a blazer and tie at every opportunity at that age. I've got pics of him on the beach in swim shorts and waistcoat. Hmm

I desperately want to see a photo of this.😀

TeacupDrama · 10/07/2022 17:42

all men have to wear a tie in Royal box they have spare sin case a celeb forgets they can't be seen to bend rules for George
if he wears tie old fashioned archaic etc etc if he doesn't who does he think he is ignoring rules that apply to everyone else

InChocolateWeTrust · 10/07/2022 17:42

Also it will be a bloody lightweight expensive suit and a very thin cotton shirt - something like a linen/silk blend, its probably cooler and more weather appropriate than a cheap polyester t shirt. They'll be sat in shade with cool drinks all day, he'll be completely fine.

Don't know why they couldn't have left him at home. I always thought William said he hated being in the spotlight as a kid, shame he's inflicting the same childhood on his own.

Maybe he wanted to go?

the80sweregreat · 10/07/2022 17:45

It's the rules
(Would have been funny if they had let him wear a red baseball hat though !!)
They can never be naughty these children and they left Louis at home this time !

Arnaquer · 10/07/2022 17:46

I read somewhere that his parents are starting to slowly introduce him to life as a working royal. Wearing formal clothes help him to know when he is ' on duty'.
Like others have said I'm sure it would be an expensive light weigh suit and what a lucky boy seeing the Wimbledon final!

Anotherdayanotherdisappointment · 10/07/2022 17:52

My non-royal child has to wear a suit and tie when he goes to cricket at Lords with his grandad. It's the dress code, no leniency because of age.

Duttercup · 10/07/2022 17:53

Weird you spend time thinking about the clothes of a strangers child tbh.

It's hardly a random child she saw at the park, is it.

Same principle, did you question the men in the royal box also following the dress code and being too hot?

That's not what you said though, you said it's weird to think about a stranger's child's clothes. Which is quite a loaded statement.

If I saw a man in a suit today, I would think 'that must be uncomfortable, it's very hot'. It's not a controversial opinion.

balalake · 10/07/2022 17:53

As long as it is a shirt that fits and not too small, fine by me.

Leftbutcameback · 10/07/2022 17:54

I doubt it's cool at courtside today - it's very hot here in the SE with no cloud to help with that sun. Surely just taking the jacket off would be sensible.

Blossomtoes · 10/07/2022 17:57

EltonsSpareGlasses · 10/07/2022 17:22

Ties are protocol for the royal box, for everyone. It's very rare for a child to be in there.

This. He’s appropriately dressed for the occasion.

How's it weird? hes on national TV, it crossed the mind of many, including myself!

JesusSufferingFuck22 · 10/07/2022 18:00

The whole pomp and circumstance of Wimbledon is ridiculous. One wee boy being too hot in a suit is nothing. I spotted one guy with a suit jacket AND a cardigan draped over his shoulders. Good grief.

There are shades built in to shield the Box and the entire thing has aircon/cooled airflow.

CruCru · 10/07/2022 18:04

I wonder whether these are just what he wears when he’s working. The rest of the time (when he’s not being photographed) he wears shorts and a polo shirt - making him less easy to recognise by the general public.

IcedPurple · 10/07/2022 18:06

Didn't we have the exact same thread at the Euros last year?

toastofthetown · 10/07/2022 18:06

Threads like this pop up every time George is seen in a royal box at a televised event. He attends events like these in the most exclusive boxes, where there is a dress code. I really can't bring myself to feel any pity for a child in the royal box at Wimbledon sticking to the same dress code everyone else there is sticking to.

And at the Jubilee concert. 🙄

HintofVintagePink · 10/07/2022 18:08

It makes a welcome relief to see a child that age that looks so smart.

Yes. Am sure we will be having the same convo every time he goes to an official engagement ad infinitum
