To think Prince George should not be wearing a jacket and tie?

He's at Wimbledon, it's very hot - can't help thinking he should be in a nice cool polo shirt. I know it's none of my beeswax really I was just pondering.

It makes a welcome relief to see a child that age that looks so smart.

On one hand MN is all let children be children then on the other hand they are quite happy to see an 8 year old dressed like a mini adult.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 10/07/2022 18:12

Ever thought he might just like copying his Dad? Some kids are just very serious creatures

ManateeFair · 10/07/2022 18:12

The dress code for the royal box stipulates jacket and tie, even for kids. They’re really strict about it.

Although they could at least have put him a light-coloured linen suit or something rather than a thick navy blazer.

Personally I don’t think anyone should be expected to wear a jacket and tie in 29C, adults or kids!

Fluffymule · 10/07/2022 18:13

Should the monarchy continue to a time when George is an adult he is going to have to get used to conforming to dress codes and protocol as part of the job.

I assume that his parents are easing him into this reality by having him accompany them to age appropriate events where they can guide his behaviour accordingly.

I saw some behind the scenes video of Kate and William taking him along a line up of officials and ball boys/girls pre match and introducing him and encouraging him to shake hands and speak a little with them.

This would also be part of 'the job' he will need to accept should he choose a royal role; so probably best if he gets some insight as he's growing up so he can decide whether or not he wants the gig in 20 or 30 years. Might be a moot point by then of course.

CuriousCatfish · 10/07/2022 18:13

At least he wasn't dressed in knicker bockers or a sailor suit

Neighbours87 · 10/07/2022 18:19

I’m more annoyed that an 8 year old child got the best seat in the house at one of the years best sporting events, for the mere achievement of being born

Better than all those seats left empty all week by corporate guests who preferred the bar.

LittleSockOfHorrors · 10/07/2022 18:22

Children across the country will be wearing blazers and ties tomorrow for school when the weather is forecast to be hotter than today and there isn't any strawberries and cream.

Florenz · 10/07/2022 18:22

He is our future King and needs to dress in a kingly fashion. He cannot show up to Wimbledon dressed in tracksuit bottoms and a short sleeved t-shirt.

I don't know, I know one of my sons wore a suit to a wedding on a blazing hot day, because that was the expectation for that occasion. I imagine there's a dress code for the royal box, so his options are to wear the suit and enjoy the match or don't go.

There are others in the Royal Box every year dressed more casually.

Because the only choice is tracksuit bottoms or a suit.

gogohmm · 10/07/2022 18:24

Dress code for the event. Was concerned none of them were wearing sunglasses, eyes need protecting royal or not

RaleighDurham · 10/07/2022 18:26

Millions of kids have to wear jacket and tie to school each day.
Is that some kind of child abuse too?
I can't feel sorry for him. I bet he is having a blast of a childhood, overall. By all accounts, he's keen on tennis and looked like he was enjoying himself most of the time.
I bet he's back home in the paddling pool (sans jacket and tie) already.

Arnaquer · 10/07/2022 18:09

Yes. Am sure we will be having the same convo every time he goes to an official engagement ad infinitum

And you can just imagine the conversation if they’d bent the rules and rocked up with him in shorts and t-shirt

the80sweregreat · 10/07/2022 18:28

I bet wee George has his own giant swimming pool to share with everyone! Lucky thing

antelopevalley · 10/07/2022 18:30

William and Catherine have a swimming pool in their houses.

700DrinksWoman · 10/07/2022 18:32

Agree about the school comment, trousers, shirt tie and blazer in a stuffy classroom.

I think like lots of little boys he loves emulating his Dad.

InChocolateWeTrust · 10/07/2022 17:41

Don't know why they couldn't have left him at home.

Some 9 year olds who are into sport would be pretty keen on Wimbledon finals tickets!! He probably plays a bit and will be pretty smug about having gone when he chats to friends at school.

Yes but how many of them would be commented on in the national press? Still it gets Kat and Billy the "likes" on the 'gram I suppose.

Quia · 10/07/2022 18:40

beeswax? Are you 8 years old?

georgarina · 10/07/2022 18:47

I agree, it's very hot and uncomfortable for a child

Ramekin · 10/07/2022 18:49

Well, my children will be off to school tomorrow in blazers and ties, in the same heat, as will thousands of others across the country. Plenty of girls will doubtless wear tights too.

I don’t know where George goes to school, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he wears a blazer and tie there, so at least he’ll be used to it.

I’d much rather outdated school uniforms were abolished before I started getting worked up about dress codes for formal occasions.

But British people seem to (unaccountably) love school uniforms. I don’t see how it’s any different personally.

JellyBellyNelly · 10/07/2022 18:51

All over the Uk this weekend there will have been children dressed formally for weddings etc. It’s just what it is.

MostlyNormalSometimesOdd · 10/07/2022 18:53

Poor wee fucker, at his age I'd have been playing under the sprinkler in the garden in my pants

I think this gets me more than the suit too

Solmum1964 · 10/07/2022 17:19

If he wants to go, that's what the dress code for the Royal Box says he must wear.

This entirely.

there were similar comments when he was at the Euros in a suit.

Thousands of children would do anything to go and watch the tennis court side. He gets the opportunity to go to innumerable life changing events, the compromise is he has to wear the garb.

The alternative is he can stay and home and watch it on telly like all the other children interested in tennis/football/etc
