Keir? Next PM?

irisetta · 10/07/2022 01:27

I don't think he is. Comes across as whiny and self-righteous. Next election I suspect the Tories are toast.

So - if not Dishi Rishi or Sir Keir - then whom?!

OP posts:

Spot on @NightmareSlashDelightful. As my gran used to say “Actions speak louder than words”. She also used to say “Talk is cheap”.

jgw1 · 10/07/2022 16:48

jeaux90 · 10/07/2022 16:19

Keir sounds like a screechy student half the time. His crass worming around the "what is a woman" question tells me he has the integrity of a hyena.

Rosie Duffield is probably one of the few LP MPs I actually trust.

@jeaux90 If it is such a simple question, then do feel free to explain what a woman is, because despite all the noise about this I have yet to have an answer.

User135644 · 10/07/2022 16:50

Od130990 · 10/07/2022 01:40

@NeedToLeaveNow each to their own. Boris has only had to stand down because of the weak who crumbled around him.
I want a PM who knows what a woman is & can define one.
I want a PM who doesn't crack under pressure. Like I say each to their own.

Alas, the whole Trans culture war won't be the biggest issue facing the country when people can't afford to heat their homes, feed their kids or fuel their cars.

I don't think labor want to be in power yet, they are biding their time. Keir would probably lose to the Tories, as another poster said, Andy Burnam would be a great choice for them. He's definitely one of the people and very relatable, He's very visible locally.

Ah, their consistently appalling performances are all a deliberate strategy. I just thought they were incompetent but I feel better now that they're just pretending at being bad. When are they planning on starting to be good?

User135644 · 10/07/2022 16:54

Isitsixoclockalready · 10/07/2022 16:36

Exactly. Even if they are all 'as bad as each other' - after 12 years why not actually give the others a chance to prove otherwise - the bar is already just about zero anyway. It is doubtful that Labour will get in by themselves anyway. It almost certainly will have to be some kind of Lib-Lab agreement.

When the same government is in power too long it goes stale. Happened to the Tories in the 90s, happened to Labour before they were last voted out. Happening to the SNP in Scotland.

AlviarinAesSedai · 10/07/2022 16:57

Neither Starmer or Rayner were at Durham Gala (Big Meeting) yesterday . Corbyn was. They need to woo the north not take us for granted.Red wall anyone.

Blossomtoes · 10/07/2022 16:57

When are they planning on starting to be good?

When their opponents have stopped tearing each other to pieces and there’s some actual politics to be opposed and some bandwidth to make themselves heard. The Tories are providing some pretty effective opposition to themselves right now.

Isitsixoclockalready · 10/07/2022 16:59

Alas, the whole Trans culture war won't be the biggest issue facing the country when people can't afford to heat their homes, feed their kids or fuel their cars.

This is why I'm slightly cynical about this. It IS an important issue but there are a huge number of really important issues but time and time again we are getting the same posts and ignoring everything else. The Labour party has a huge number of female members and actually I think that it's pretty insulting to them to suggest by implication that women's rights are not important to them.

Was Rishi at it?

Theoneinthemiddle · 10/07/2022 17:06

All this hatred for single mothers.

If you have a baby and the father leaves, inless you are on over £40,000 ish you probably are going to find it difficult to pay for mortgage/rent, childcare, travel, food etc so it’s fairly likely that you will claim some sort of benefits.

This is a situation where the woman has done absolutely nothing wrong- in fact generally the father has done something wrong but is stigmatised, looked down on and seen as less worthy.

Sexism on a huge scale. So please on this and the BAME Rishi thread please stop the hatred for single mothers.

They literally have to claim money because the father had absolved himself of responsibility for his own child and won’t pay for it.

SnowyLamb · 10/07/2022 17:11

Labour do need to sort out their trans position, if only because we currently seem to be in the ridiculous position that people believe the Tories are best for women.

SnowyLamb · 10/07/2022 17:16

Conservatives the party for women?

I'd like a PM who doesn't harbour sex pests. And who takes the job seriously. I have a longer list than that but it's today's headline.

Well Boris does know what a woman is, just ask his many exs.

@NeedToLeaveNow Chris pincher was ALLEGED in 2017 & 2018 to have groped 2 Tory MP's but under investigation from the Tory party was cleared of any wrong doing.
Firstly; Boris wasn't elected until July 29th 2019.
Secondly; His own party Cleared him of any wrongdoing ( including all those who've now quit/resigned )
Lastly; He was cleared early in 2019 before Boris was elected ( yes Boris brought pincher back from a backbencher ) but remember he was found by the whole CONSERVATIVE PARTY to not be guilty of any conduct.

And what happened most recently?

Blossomtoes · 10/07/2022 17:20

SnowyLamb · 10/07/2022 17:16

These Tory women really aren’t doing themselves or their party any favours right now. It’s almost like they want to be in opposition.

luckylavender · 10/07/2022 17:21

HRTQueen · 10/07/2022 14:12

Conservatives are far more politically savvy

there is a reason why they are the most successful political party

There are far more sinister reasons than that. They include money, old school ties & newspaper barons.

Princessoftheuniverse · 10/07/2022 17:22

I really like Keir Starmer.I think he has integrity which is a refreshing change after Boris and his crew. He comes from a very ordinary background and has done very well. He did a lot of free work for good causes when he was working as a lawyer. I cannot understand why he hasn’t been more popular. I do think he’s shot himself in the foot with the ridiculous TWAW and I can understand why voters are put off. I am myself. I don’t think the Labour Party have a hope in hell of winning an election with him as leader. It has to be Yvette Cooper. She is hardworking and capable. I don’t agree with all her views but the LP with any leader would be an improvement on this Conservative shower.

soundofsilver · 10/07/2022 17:23

Yes please! I am totally up for a straight-laced, intelligent leader with morals. 'Charisma' can f*ck off.

luckylavender · 10/07/2022 17:23

girlmom21 · 10/07/2022 15:32

The next PM has to be a Conservative.

So yeah... could be Starmer.

🙄

HRTQueen · 10/07/2022 17:23

Stripyhoglets1 · 10/07/2022 15:58

Its like people have been dispatched all over social media to say "no one wants kier, no one can see him lead, has no ideas, labour still destroyed by corbyn, need to get their house in order etc etc"
That's not what I see and polls and the by -election results show thats not what other people see either.
If people can't afford to heat their homes and drive cars in 2 years time the tories are in trouble.

The by-elections were not a particularly good result for Labour apart from in London. Labour need to desperately move away from being seen as Londoncentric

also mid term the opposition as expected to do well the party that really did well was the Libdems

don’t think they will naturally side with Labour (unless you have a very short memory) this isn’t a given

AlviarinAesSedai · 10/07/2022 17:31

No Rishi, wasn’t there, it’s a Labour event as far as I’m concerned. Anyway he doesn’t know any working class people.

MarshaMelrose · 10/07/2022 17:31

The problem with Keir Starmer is that he is just blah. He has no charisma, no oomph, no relatabilty. I'm sure he's genuine when he tries to address problems, but his sincere face makes him look worried, like he's constipated or has bad tummy ache. Maybe his job taught him to state facts without emotion but as a politician he just comes across as passionless and with no personality. I wasn't a big fan of Tony Blair but he was a go-getter. He recognised that people viewed the the Tories as the party of aspiration. And he wanted that for Labour. He worked a crowd, and he could read a room. But Starmer is just, well, blah.

I think it would have been best if the police had fined him and he'd resigned.

HRTQueen · 10/07/2022 17:33

And Labour had to charm certain newspaper owner to win

that’s the way it is it’s irrelevant if we like it or not. Labour has to be centre left (after the mess Corbyn has left that is quite a challenge to make voters believe they are) and they need a leader that connects with voters.

We are more of a centre right country that’s what you work with gaining those centre/swing voters and possibly some Tory voters not the ones the party feels worthy of having

and stop being idealistic on how you wish politics was it’s never been a fair game it’s always been nasty and had levels of corruption this government has been terrible the worst I can remember yet Labour are not trampling all over them
