I don't think he is. Comes across as whiny and self-righteous. Next election I suspect the Tories are toast.

So - if not Dishi Rishi or Sir Keir - then whom?!

I don’t think they’ve got a candidate capable of generating a new leader bounce. The successful one is likely to be a former cabinet member who’s tainted by association. Whoever it is will want to stay in Downing Street as long as they can.

Meanwhile there’s a pretty rubbish field of candidates to choose from, my party faithful bloke is in despair since Wallace decided not to run, he muttered “I suppose it will have to be fucking Sunak” this morning.

User135644 · 11/07/2022 17:21

I'm sure that viral video of his posh boy snobbery will go down well in the red wall.

Blossomtoes · 11/07/2022 17:23

I don’t think any of them will go down well with the red wall.

Johnson has always had appeal for many voters not just Tory voters while get Brexit done was hugely influential it was also about him leading the party the Tories won’t have an 80 seat majority again well not in the near future

Interesting that the trans debate is being discussed it will be an issue in the next election this probably favours Tories better

I don't know any non Tory voter who likes BJ, he is extremely divisive and why he is gone, less than 3 years in.

BUT Labour had Corbyn and Brexit had dragged on for far too long, so when BJ came along and promised to Get it done, many leapt at it.

Remember the Tories won around 43% of the vote, marginally more than in 2017.

FPTP distorts our Election process.

In RL, no one gives a shit a about Trans, its all about the economy now.

Blossomtoes · 11/07/2022 20:40

You’re absolutely right. Added to which Penny Mordaunt is the grassroots favourite and if she gets elected you can forget about Tories “knowing what a woman is”.

HRTQueen · 11/07/2022 21:09

Well it being spoken about by MPs and those they are supporting their opinion

of course it’s not as important as the economy but it’s is a subject that is being discussed by politicians not just on SM irs part of the backlash against being woke

a year ago it just wasn’t ever mentioned

pointythings · 11/07/2022 21:12

Whenever the next GE is, I don't figure on the trans debate being a big issue except for a very tiny group of voters. The rest will be too worried about their bank balance, their unheated houses, the cost of their food shopping, running their cars...

HRTQueen · 11/07/2022 21:35

Johnson was the Mayor in London a labour city his antics always were popular and for many entertainment.

why do you think he won so many voters he has always been a popular figure why do you think the conservatives backed him on a whim? of course not he has always been disliked by many in the party. They knew they were on to a winner and now just because you wouldn’t vote for him or don’t know anyone that has (I’m sure you know some who have ) doesn’t mean those that have voted Labour haven’t voted for him they obviously did and they liked him did you not hear what voters were saying in the run up to the last election

It’s questionable if Leave would have would have won without Johnson that’s why there was so much fuss about when he decided what side he would be campaigning for

Johnson is divisive even in his own party so was Thatcher both appealed beyond Tory voters

I’ve never understood his appeal it’s interested me but I don’t get it. I heard one commentator sum it up he seems like the guy who would have a pint with you, pull his sleeves up (as he often does) and has that get on with it with no fuss which appeals to our culture. And then there are some that are just listened too more, even if you disagree with them you don’t switch off this allows a politician to woo voters they only need to say one thing that someone may agree with for a voter to view them differently (Blair, Farage, Johnson, Corbyn) have all used this way to gain voters/support

Blossomtoes · 11/07/2022 10:47

It’s not painting him to be some rational politician who understand science

Just one who understands the legal position. Which is more than all the hyperbolic posters who maintain only Tories know what a woman is do. The legal position has been the same for the last 12 years.

I disagree. It shows he doesn’t understand the legal position which is shocking given his legal background.

TooBigForMyBoots · 11/07/2022 23:01

@PickAPetal1, a week after Starmer's interview, PM Johnson gave an interview to GB News. Can you guess what he said wrt to those pesky women and their biology? www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1501654/Boris-Johnson-GB-News-latest-Conservative-Party-speech-woke-cancel-culture-woman-cervix-vn/amp

I'm not sure anyone is suggesting Johnson is any better!

Unfortunately I don't know who has the balls these days to stand up to this crap.

NightmareSlashDelightful · 10/07/2022 16:18

I think calling Angela Rayner uncouth when you’ve got literal Boris Johnson in Number 10 is disingenuous in the extreme! 🤣

This.

This, every time.

TooBigForMyBoots · 13/07/2022 13:58

It's not about Johnson being any better @, it's about the widespread reporting of Starmer's comments and the relative silence when a Tory PM says similar a week later.🤔

TooBigForMyBoots · 13/07/2022 13:59

That was to @VecnaSmellsOfPoo.Blush

Letsjumpthebroomstick · 01/12/2022 01:15

If Starmer flunks it ,( and I hope not) the Golden Miliband has said he is thinking of returning to politics. Yes , I know women, no female Labour leader yet . Irritating.

Kitkatcatflap · 01/12/2022 01:24

Labour are wandering in the unelectable leader desert again, like the years before the chose Blair

FourTeaFallOut · 01/12/2022 06:12

I think Rachel Reeves would be far better.

You can keep the cowardly Yvette Cooper who thinks that defining a woman is to throw yourself into an unnecessary rabbit hole.

Happylittlechicken · 01/12/2022 06:16

I vote Rosie Duffileld. She’d be fab. She’s got courage, moral standards and intelligence.

Yes 20pts ahead of the Tories and Rishest Sunak is "unelectable"

Whereas waiting 2 or 3 hours for an ambulance (Cornwall) is considered perfectly acceptable in for the Tories.

LlynTegid · 01/12/2022 08:53

I cannot see a Labour majority at the next general election. No Tory majority yes, but will they lose nearly 100 seats to Labour? I doubt it.

The serial killing by neglect over Covid and the parties in Downing Street will have been forgotten, inflation will probably be lower, and in Scotland the SNP will get a majority of seats.

The other question is how many will turn out and vote.
