My husband got a cold on Sunday(you would think it was the plague) and as his mother lives 5 mins away he felt it would be okay to go to hers and he has been there since tucked up in bed with all his meals served to him, cups of tea etc....full nights sleep... While I am at home with our son who has a cold,is not in playschool as a result, is cranky and clingy and Im trying to run the whole show here. He says I am being unreasonable as he gets no sympathy from me and at least his mother will look after him....and boy does she, he is waited on hand and foot.. He is 31 years old by the way not twelve....

I would kiiiiiill him

Good grief. He needs to grow up and come home.

nowwearefour · 16/01/2008 22:15

my husband and i are completely in agreement that you are NBU. he says he wishes he would be able to get away with something like that. at least it is one other person you dont have to worry about looking after but that isnt really the point. hoepfully he will get bette quickly and come back to help you out!

I have 2 boys.. how do I not turn into one of those mothers...so that if mine ever attempt that at 31...I send them of with a flea in their ear.

Can you take DS to mothers as well... ???

kittywise · 16/01/2008 22:17

Rejoice if I were you that he's taken himself off and you don't have to look after him or listen to his whining.
God, it's pathetic.

rosturra · 16/01/2008 22:30

yes, I have threatned to leave ds up there with them and see how they cope but my little fella has autism and granny is still in denial... He will grow out of it is her latest mantra!!!!! I spoke to her today and said she could keep him up there as I'm telling you there is less to tidy up when he is not around!!!

Arse. Tell him to stay there.

Flibbertyjibbet · 16/01/2008 22:37

Where does your mother live? Hurry up and catch a bug the minute he returns home - yours would have to be no less than bubonic plague in man-speak, then take off to your mothers and see how HE copes with everything.
Will have to get off this thread now in case DP gets ideas as he did sneeze once this morning

Milliways · 16/01/2008 22:38

watch this

sfxmum · 16/01/2008 22:41

to his mothers? seriously?
does she still give him pocket money as well?

Viggoswife · 16/01/2008 22:59

Would be glad to see the back of my DH when he is ill. He gets as much sympathy from me as I do from him but would find it hard to find him attractive if he went to his MUM to be looked after. What a baby.

Willowwisp · 16/01/2008 23:03

Man flu - Nothing worse is there!! We just soldier on don't we, but they just winge and winge, my hubby came home from work with a plaster on his finger last night, he cut it moving a car (he is a policeman) the way he was going on I nearly called an ambulance,he sat on the settee holding his finger up like it was in a sling ............. please get a life!

Milliways - That has made my day! V funny!

expatinscotland · 16/01/2008 23:04

book yourself a long weekend away alone and take off as soon as he's better.

who the hell are the mums who are still doing this for a grown adult?

it's not like he's having chemo!

no sympathy. sorry, but i left skidmarks from men like this during the dating stage.

SorenLorensen · 16/01/2008 23:05

Change the locks.

rosturra · 16/01/2008 23:25

oh my god milliways, that video is my husband!! Although he was well enough to play footie on Sunday night...Apparently it helps a cold!!!! (You would think I'm making this up, it sounds so ridiculous!!). My family live in Ireland so I'm surrounded by inlaws, who I actually get on really well with but my MIL still treats my hubby like he is a kid which lets face it he is....I think he has probably just finished watching "Match of the Day" now and there will be a hot water bottle in his bed and hot orange in a flask beside the bed in case he needs a hot drink in the night....This is all true!!! I wonder how he struggles to the loo!!!

I would be grateful he has decamped. think of having two males at home demanding sympathy and being all clingy. Let his mother do the dirty work, she deserves him.

smartiejake · 16/01/2008 23:32

LOL at the man flu thing on you tube!
What a numpty your bloke is! I would change the locks.

VeronicaMars · 16/01/2008 23:35

And if you had a cold you would have to just get on with it? Very unfair of him, bet his mother is delighted!!
This man flu thing is recognised by women everywhere, maybe women should start taking to their beds for the first two days of their period.

choosyfloosy · 16/01/2008 23:40

to his mothers???

actually i collapse into bed about twice a year with a bug and lie perfectly still like stone tomb figure, appearing only for 3 square meals a day

is your dh a youngest child by any chance (I am youngest of 3)

it's the business

bossybritches · 16/01/2008 23:42

Don't know who I'd rather slap more Him for being such a self-centred wimp or MIL for encouraging Him????!!

But as Discover say at least you only have the smaller clingy male to deal with & you can forgive him a bit more!!!

expatinscotland · 16/01/2008 23:46

Oh, I recognise manflu, I just think it's a crock and wouldn't put up with it.

Fireflyfairy2 · 16/01/2008 23:49

I would have trouble fancying a man who went home to mammy at the first sign of a sniffle!!

Even my dh says your dh is an arse

expatinscotland · 16/01/2008 23:49

here, here, ff!

dh's remark, 'what a pussy!'

brimfull · 16/01/2008 23:50

unbelievable

It's like something out of Little Britain.

yurt1 · 16/01/2008 23:50

Bloody hell.

YANBU

BraceYourselfMavis · 16/01/2008 23:51

He would find the locks changed when he dragged his sorry arse home.
