Are Tory voters that stupid?

StoneofDestiny · 07/07/2022 10:06

Listening to Tory after Tory coming on TV this morning and almost every one has mentioned Jeremy Corbyn as the fear factor in voting Labour at the next election. Seriously - is that the best argument they have got to steer the public disgust at this government's behaviour away from them?

Yes

I have a chronic illness. My treatment was far better under Labour than now. Even down to being entitled to aids that are no longer supplied by the NHS. I was also entitled to some ongoing support. But now they have raised the criteria so I no longer qualify. My condition has not changed and is worse than when I first received that support under Labour.

I'm having a nightmare sorting out my sons hearing issues and getting treatment. Can't even get through to the department on the hospital switchboard to find out whst is going on, just tells me the queue us full and kicks me off the line. My 3 year old doesn't speak. He is really suffering and I'm scared for when he starts school as he is severely speech delayed. Around half of my appointments have been cancelled over the past year. I actually work for the NHS myself, so i dont say it lightly, but it is on its arse and I regard it as neglect. I am paying taxes for this shit. The Tories do not give a shit if it is either and they don't care about my son.

I think you missed my point.

I did too. You accused her of providing evidence of her assertions, which she did, and of not being insulting and rude, which she wasn't.

What was your point?

Doris899 · 07/07/2022 18:02

How anyone votes for these is beyond me. What a mess of a party they are and frankly have been for years. Still whilst their very reliable core voters are still alive they always have a chance !

FourTeaFallOut · 07/07/2022 18:09

Jesus. I'm agreeing with Edge. I'm joking that despite her mountain of evidence that the political currency of the day is mudslinging and hatred.

So no, I am not going to vote for a party that is not capable of recognising biological sex. I am not voting for a party that cannot comprehend the problems that arise when we allow the word 'woman' to become meaningless under the law. I am not going to vote for my daughter's rights to be removed accidentally, because Labour were too shortsighted and afraid of critical thinking to interrogate the issues.

So you'd rather vote for a party that tolerates sex pests as MPs then. Very feminist of you.

I'm GC, and I understand why you wouldn't vote Labour (although I still would), but voting Tory instead on women's rights grounds is bonkers in the extreme.

They don’t tolerate it. In case you hadn’t noticed. They just got rid of their leader for tolerating it.

And what is truly stupid is not recognising that you can’t change sex. So if you choose to defend any party that lacks basic grasp of science, it’s not great.

FourTeaFallOut · 07/07/2022 18:09

Sorry, I missed the irony.

TooBigForMyBoots · 07/07/2022 19:20

The irony is that because of the Conservative Party, women's rights have been eroded and we are now in a position where 1 Trans person wanting access to women's single sex spaces could tip the balance for a long time to come. That trans person is a Tory MP and a dodgy as fuck one at that.😱

TooBigForMyBoots · 07/07/2022 19:21

But, yeah, they're women's only hope.Hmm

Florenz · 07/07/2022 19:23

It's sad that women have the choice of the Tories, who don't care about women, or Labour, who don't think women exist.

weaselish · 07/07/2022 19:24

FOJN · 07/07/2022 11:01

Moral superiority is the drug of choice for the modern leftie and like most addicts they are incredibly egotistical, they have such an unshakeable belief they are right about everything that they feel no need to listen to alternative perspectives. The tendency to insult those who disagree with them is all part of the same self righteous delusion.

I voted for the libdems back in the mid 90's when they said they would increase income tax to pay for public services and I was a junior staff nurse, so not on a high income. I was an active union member and rep for many years. I'd put my politics firmly left of centre, my beliefs haven't changed but left wing politics has and I want nothing to do with the authoritarian bullies represented on this thread.

Currently I am politically homeless but would not rule out voting conservative in the future and why wouldn't I, the left demand I meet their standard of ideological purity in order to be welcome. The problem is that few people can meet the standard demanded so they will seek a new political home, there will be a backlash to this bullying and it will make the current conservatives look cuddly.

Totally agree with this post. I'm no way a Tory but the calling people stupid nonsense just because they vote differently to you has to stop.

antelopevalley · 07/07/2022 19:49

So what do you think about the comments on here calling labour voters stupid?

itsgettingweird · 07/07/2022 19:50

Blossomtoes · 07/07/2022 14:37

Until a party can accurately describe and protect the rights of women, I will vote elsewhere

I guess you’re going to be spoiling your paper for the foreseeable future then.

And not backing Mordaunt for the next PM.

TooBigForMyBoots · 07/07/2022 19:58

Unless you are a Conservative MP or Party Member, you will have zero say in who our next PM will be.

HRTQueen · 07/07/2022 20:06

Isn’t it time those on the left that sneer at everyone who may not agree with them look at the damage they have done. No one is morally superior because they vote labour yet many believe they are

it’s been so damaging to the left they have not gained from this stance but the right have

it’s embarrassing and the stupidity of it all is that it hasn’t gained enough voters to win an election in 18 years and it won’t start now

antelopevalley · 07/07/2022 20:14

@HRTQueen And what about those who sneer at those voting for Labour. Or the SNP?
You get called lots of names on MN if you support the SNP?
Or is it only the left you criticise?

antelopevalley · 07/07/2022 20:16

I have seen labour voters on this very thread called stupid.
But not one conservative supporter said anything.

Lily073 · 07/07/2022 20:25

antelopevalley · 07/07/2022 19:49

So what do you think about the comments on here calling labour voters stupid?

I don't agree with supporters of either party calling the others stupid simply because of a difference in political opinion. I very much doubt anyone would be swayed to vote one way or another by anything written on here either though.

antelopevalley · 07/07/2022 20:28

I agree calling others stupid is not a good move. And I hope both Conservative and Labour voters stop doing this.

HRTQueen · 07/07/2022 20:40

the Left are renowned for sneering at other voters the right or centre are not. It’s especially played out on sm

yes SNP voters are often talked sown to and no I don’t agree with it

i am critical of the left who have this attitude and remainers that do. It hasn’t been successful stance has it ?

I would like a centre left Labour Party in power I would have preferred to have remained in the EU this superiority stance has been damaging on both accounts

HRTQueen · 07/07/2022 20:45

Really you have not heard labour voters saying that Labour are not in touch with their core voters ? Why do you think the Tories won an 80 seat majority

you have never heard a leave voter say they get left behind and not listened to ?

well if you only engage and only want to listen to those you agree and park each other on the back with then I guess you haven’t

antelopevalley · 07/07/2022 20:48

@HRTQueen The conservative voters sneer rather loudly at SNP voters, both on and off MN. I have been called braveheart, a tartan nationalist, stupid, think, and a moron.
Conservatives are pretty renowned for it. Many conservative supporters seem to think most Scottish people are thick nationalists.

OneOfThoseOldFashionedWomen · 07/07/2022 20:49

Agree with the last few posts. I've been berated on here for saying that I think there is worse than Boris, and for saying why I can not currently vote Labour.

I am also a centre left supporter, but the left have abandoned me.

antelopevalley · 07/07/2022 20:51

Am I not here then?
You just ignore what I say about many conservative voters as if I do not exist?
I almost feel I am talking to bots.

x2boys · 07/07/2022 20:54

It's the assumption that if you are a certain demographic, you should vote a certain way and if you don't then you have clearly been brainwashed or are just thick that pisses me off ,many working class people take an avid interest in politics and vote for the party who they feel best represents them ,that is their right and its called democracy ,just because others don't understand why people in that demographic would vote that way doesn't make people thick.
