Are Tory voters that stupid?

StoneofDestiny · 07/07/2022 10:06

Listening to Tory after Tory coming on TV this morning and almost every one has mentioned Jeremy Corbyn as the fear factor in voting Labour at the next election. Seriously - is that the best argument they have got to steer the public disgust at this government's behaviour away from them?

Starmer is a centrist. Neither left nor right-wing in reality. I think this is what we need.
Someone like him who is highly competent, hard-working, and very intelligent.

The GC argument is so stupid, because all of the changes that have happened were under a Tory Government, so why pretend that they are saviours of women?

Precisely.

I wouldn't describe them as the 'saviours' of women at all. Not even remotely.

However, I would describe them as a party that can now acknowledge there is a conflict of rights, while Labour and the rest refuse to acknowledge it at all. Labour's current policy is to make things demonstrably worse and to refuse to listen to alternative viewpoints. The Tories have also been slowly waking up to the dangers of puberty blockers and the problems of imposing a blanket ban on so-called conversion therapy. They are moving far too slowly for my liking, but they are at least facing the right way. Labour are going in the opposite direction.

So I don't hold with the view that 'they're all as bad as each other' on this issue.

When/if Labour changes its stance, I will reassess.

TooBigForMyBoots · 07/07/2022 15:55

I don't give a shit about Labour members or their conference. They are in opposition and as such, relatively irrelevant to me.

A government minister slamming the HoL for disagreeing with Trans agenda in a Maternity Bill? At the Despatch Box? That matters. It matters a lot because it is actual law that we're talking about. But it's not widely reported.

Labour had an in-house fight.🤷‍♀️ The Conservatives have steadily eroded women's rights and are continuing to do so. Please stop allowing "But Labour" to distract you from what is happening to women, today, under a Tory government.

I'm not voting in anyone who doesn't know what a woman is.

And that Is probably going to be the next Brexit.

Tories are beneficial for the rich people who also own the media therefore the propaganda is going to be pro Tory. And yes, people are extremely gullible. A combo of propaganda and people not using their brains/not caring enough/easily swayed by being told what they want to hear even if complete lies.

FourTeaFallOut · 07/07/2022 15:58

I'll prioritise whatever I damn well please.

Blossomtoes · 07/07/2022 15:58

When did they do this? And how, as a news addict, did I miss it? Perhaps you could supply a link?

TooBigForMyBoots · 07/07/2022 16:09

The Conservatives are a party that have repeatedly behaved recklessly with Women's Rights and the whole country. They create chaos, then claim to be the only answer to the problems they created.🤯

And you can't possibly trust them to fix it. They're a mess. They can't even keep a PM for a whole term. People have no idea what they will get if they vote Tory. May? Johnson? Whoever's next? And that's if their elected Tory MP doesn't end up in jail, resigning, crossing the floor or coming out as trans in office.

One thing most people know however, a Tory Government is no friend to women.

So we are back too people who don't vote the way I think they should are thick and gullible
You know it is possible to be neither thick or gullible but just have a different opnion to you ,you know .

FourTeaFallOut · 07/07/2022 16:19

Around and around we go.

Yup. But when you vote in proven liars who make unsubstantiated promises then you are gullible. Any working class person who voted in this government is bloody idiotic. They are the proverbial turkeys voting for Xmas. If you’re very rich and you don’t care about other people then fair enough to vote for them.

im very concerned about the environment and NHS at the moment. I really couldn’t give a flying fig about the fact that some men identify as women.

the pandemic has made the richest people super wealthy, yet people are struggling to pay the bills, working class people can’t afford to send their kids to uni and therefore many are opting not to, you can’t get a doctors appointment unless you’re at deaths door and even then. Young people can’t afford to buy houses and rents are extortionate meaning they’ll never save up enough money to buy etc.

During the pandemic the govt haemorrhaged money in failed Ppe, track and trace etc. they are all liars and cheats and hypocrites and they are literally drinking champers and laughing at us. Yup, bloody gullible

TooBigForMyBoots · 07/07/2022 16:35

It's not about people being too thick. If you are jot given pertinent information on what the government of the day is doing to women's rights, how can you possible make an informed choice?

And I do think that some are being a bit gullible by being so easily distracted with "look at them, aren't they awful".🤷‍♀️

So I assume you must agree that everybody who voted for Blair ,when he too mthey country into war, becase of the " weapons of mass destruction " lies were also thick and gullible?

I wasn’t in the country then so don’t know.

x2boys · 07/07/2022 16:53

And having worked for the NHS under labour I can tell you it certainly wasn't a walk in the park under them either ,yes there was more money but as a big standard staff nurse working on the wards ,it certainly didn't go to patient care ,lots of fancy new buildings and computer systems but actual patient care no .

antelopevalley · 07/07/2022 17:07

I have a chronic illness. My treatment was far better under Labour than now. Even down to being entitled to aids that are no longer supplied by the NHS. I was also entitled to some ongoing support. But now they have raised the criteria so I no longer qualify. My condition has not changed and is worse than when I first received that support under Labour.

It got a whole lot worse under Austerity.😥 It also lost staff because of Brexit. Then Covid hit.

The NHS, like most of our public services and much of the country has been destroyed by 12 years of disastrous Tory Party party policies and their regular, internal, Game of Thrones massacres.

Sure. Here you go - some links on things that the government has done or said regarding gender ideology:

Government decision not to bring in self-ID following a consultation on reform of the GRA:
commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/cbp-9079/

Sajid Javid's decision to review gender treatment provided to children:
www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-61203575.amp

Boris's declaration a woman cannot be born with a penis:
www.google.com/amp/s/amp.lbc.co.uk/news/boris-says-women-cant-be-born-with-a-penis/

Department for Education issuing guidance for schools telling them not to teach harmful gender-bases stereotypes:

Government decision to ensure all new buildings have single sex toilets:
www.gov.uk/government/news/all-public-buildings-to-have-separate-male-and-female-toilets

Would you like me to find some links of things that Labour have done? Like declaring women's groups as hate groups? Or Lisa Nandy saying that convicted rapists should be locked up with female prisoners and their babies if they identify as women? I'm sure I can dig out the video.

ChrisReasBathEggs · 07/07/2022 17:35

Looks like you aren't voting at all then

FourTeaFallOut · 07/07/2022 17:41

Oh, that's just evidence of your point of view edge, don't you have some righteous indignation or mudslinging to back that up?

OneOfThoseOldFashionedWomen · 07/07/2022 17:42

I agree with Edges post.

Look at Bristol County Council if you want more of Labour batshittery. Just as the Conservatives crumbling.

ChrisReasBathEggs · 07/07/2022 17:43

Ive voted for all parties. Infact I started off Conservative and gone more Liberal, which is the opposite of what most people expect. I voted Conservative in 2010 as I did not like Blair and his decision on the Iraq war and yes, I was a fucking idiot for doing so! It all started to go wrong after then.

I fell for the Labour are shit with the economy trick - our debt has got bigger and I would probably be a homeowner now if I voted Labour or Lib Dem. Our economy has been a ticking time bomb since 2008 and they have just been papering over the cracks for years. It is all going tits up now, and yes I blame them.

Will never vote Tory again, even if I would benefit as they don't give a shit about future generations, just their older voter base. I want a good life for my kids and I don't think the Conservatives care quite frankly.

Is that your idea of a rebuttal?

If you've got the same kind of evidence to disprove what she's saying, show it.

FourTeaFallOut · 07/07/2022 17:49

I think you missed my point.
