Because if he clings on until the next GE, he'll be completely unelectable and we'll be rid of the Tories.

I'm hoping he digs his heels in just like he always has, even though by rights he should be fucking off with his tail between his legs.

Blossom , hospital crisis and in particular maternity ward's were in the media nearly every day.

It's a glib comment when people were genuinely frightend to end up in either of them and tales of absolute horror from people that did.

It's all in the media from that time.
I can link but such a casual, repugnant comment leads me to believe you wouldn't care.

Please do link. You have seen the stats, ie facts above?

This is rubbish. Whatever else went wrong in the Blair years, the NHS improved massively. The stats are out there.

More bollocks. The reason for the dire economic situation in 2010 was a global economic crisis emanating from the US. The resultant recession slashed Treasury tax receipts by over £40bn. The note in the drawer is a long standing Treasury joke - It recalls a similar note left by Tory Reginald Maudling to his Labour successor James Callaghan in 1964: "Good luck, old cock ... Sorry to leave it in such a mess."

The reason that the UK suffered so badly was that Labour, believing that they had “done away with boom and bust” had not driven down the deficit while the economy was doing well.

Thank heavens things are so much different now. Now, you can't actually get into a hospital, not for love, nor money, nor an ambulance. . .

claudine Labour spent money we didn’t have and got the country into massive debt!!

I must apologise,I misread a quote and attributed the "cloud Cuckoo" remark to you.

claudine Labour spent money we didn’t have and got the country into massive debt!!

In 2005 the UK National Debt was less that £0.5 trillion. But then came the worldwide financial crisis of 2008 and subsequent recession. The National Debt increased rapidly and went over £1 trillion in 2011 and over £1.5 trillion in 2016. At the end of March 2022 the National Debt was £2.33 trillion.
In terms of Gross Domestic Product the UK National Debt in 2005 was about 38 percent of GDP.

But in the last ten years, in the wake of the Crash of 2008 and subsequent recession, the National Debt has doubled to over 80 percent GDP, but is leveling out as a percent of GDP. At the end of March 2022 the National Debt was 98.6 percent of GDP.

You couldn't back in 2006 either. They literally closed their doors and turned away women in labour.

Summerwhereareyou · 06/07/2022 14:16

Claudine I disagree.

I thought they all thought he was a nice "young man" who would get Brexit done

Well, he is quite young and he did get the job done.

Others' success is a very difficult pill to swallow for some people

Brexit isn't done, not by a long shot.

SleeplessInEngland · 06/07/2022 14:21

The tories say brexit is done when they think it suits them and they also say brexit isn't done (Northern Ireland) when they think it suits them.

Schrodinger's Brexit.

Provenceinthesummer · 06/07/2022 14:25

This just shows that political parties are now dead and buried and what matters now are the brexit divisions coming into play. It’s a cross party spilt we are witnessing now

No it isn't. Lots of brexit supporting MPs also want him gone. It's one of the few things that's turning into a Commons consensus.

HannahSternDefoe · 06/07/2022 13:36

Doesn't really make much difference...
Labour and LibDems think if you wear a frock and call yourself Joyce you're a woman.

Like @ChristinaXYZ I will pinch my nose and vote tory (sorry Dad).

Pathetic.

David Davis? Andrew Bridgen? Steve Baker? Rishi Sunak?

the80sweregreat · 06/07/2022 14:31

Steve Baker MP is one of the ERG and he told him to go months ago.
I don't think he has resigned though.

How's the national debt under this government?

SleeplessInEngland · 06/07/2022 14:33

Reports coming in that Gove has personally told johnson to go, so that's another senior resignation if it doesn't happen.

Basically lots count of other resignations/calls to resign.

SleeplessInEngland · 06/07/2022 14:33

*lost count

TooBigForMyBoots · 06/07/2022 14:34

@ChristinaXYZ, they will not elect Penny Mordaunt to rein her in. They'll let her do whatever if they think she will win them an election. The Tory party doesn't give a shiny shit about women.

You may also want to check with the candidate you vote for to make sure that they aren't planning on becoming trans once they get a seat.

I'm sorry I wasn't clear, I meant to say the anti Johnson faction is not split Leave/Remain, it covers all areas now.

If Boris was in any other profession he would have been long sacked by now.

This has gone on for too long really. The only reason he’s still there is because Covid saved him. If we hadn’t had Covid then his ineffectiveness and incompetence would have been highlighted much, much earlier with no global events to hide behind.

But there would have been no complaints about parties
