To hope Johnson doesn't resign?

LonelyPlanetGirI · 05/07/2022 18:51

Because if he clings on until the next GE, he'll be completely unelectable and we'll be rid of the Tories.

I'm hoping he digs his heels in just like he always has, even though by rights he should be fucking off with his tail between his legs.

'if he is as bad as you make out, do you think that calls into question Johnson's judgement'

Yes I agree with you possibly for the first time ever, it would seem remiss to appoint someone who has previously demonstrated their unreliable weasly ways.

On your second point, many many people have kids with previous partners. You must've lived a very sheltered life if you've never come across this before. Mind as you call a sandwich in an office a 'party' that doesn't surprise me.

@JaniieJones It is lovely that we are in agreement that Johnson is a serial quitter.

Ok, I will play along with your sandwich thing. Why do you think it was acceptable for a 56 year old to have a sandwich with friends and colleagues to celebrate his birthday when he was denying that opportunity to millions of children?

AmaryIlis · 08/07/2022 07:58

If I were an opposition MP, and if Johnson stays, I would be taking every possible opportunity to troll him and every MP who returns to his administration having said that he was too dishonest for them to have any confidence in him. It could be a load of fun to keep planting questions quoting resignation letters about his lack of integrity and asking him why, if that's what his colleagues think about him, we should listen to a word he says. Ditto asking the colleagues what exactly has changed, and why it took them so long to notice.

SueSaid · 08/07/2022 08:06

I know lots of people who had sandwiches at work on their birthdays. Some even had pizza Shock.

Cornettoninja · 08/07/2022 08:31

Oh they will @AmaryIlis, it’s highly unlikely to just evaporate, the timeline itself is enough to start with.

it’s already started in some quarters. Doing the right thing now doesn’t erase the past three years. The tories will carry this for some time yet.

@JaniieJones if that was legal, why did the Prime Minister not say so in one of his very many Downing Street briefings? It would have saved him a lot of bother.

More to the point. If it was legal why did he receive a FPN for it?!

Ah that's because it is all a media smear campaign of sledging, I learnt that yesterday.

itsgettingweird · 08/07/2022 09:07

If that's the case I fully expect Starmer and Rayners group to receive more than 126 FPNs for their one campaign event with <gasps> beer.

The mail dined out on that for 10 days. If the media really do control what happens with FPNs etc then they will receive far more than the 8 parties in DS did.

its the technical lingo you know, BJ would know after all he is a journo. We forget this quite a lot.

James Cleverly did the media round this morning insisting it was fine to have the wedding at Chequers and that it would go ahead. One hour later: downing street says it'll be at another venue.

Even as a caretaker PM johnson still manages to embarrass his ministers.

I reckon there will be a lot of this. Johnson will take every opportunity to make the rest of the cabinet look stupid. Not that they need much help in that respect.

So what, plans change!

SleeplessInEngland · 08/07/2022 09:54

Two separate polls today showing the tories on just 29%. Cut through all the noise and this is Johnson's legacy for his party.

Oh, his legacy is not yet over for the party. If they let him cling on until the autumn, then it could well be worse, and certainly won't be any better.

Consider this. If a headteacher employed someone who had an adverse finding of inappropriate behaviour against them, then questions would be being asked. If that headteacher forgot when they re-employed that person that such a finding existed the headteacher then more questions would be being asked. When the person they employed then went on to drunkenly sexually assault someone, and that headteacher still defended them, what do we think the Daily Mail would be saying?

A bit like the rules needed to change to prove that Paterson wasn't a crook.
That worked well as I recall.

No this is his colleagues legacy for the party.

Obviously many people won't vote Conservative the way they've ousted him. They have lost any chance of being electable and in 2024 we will have some hideously incompetent SNP/Labour hunch causing havoc in power. Putin must be pissing himself laughing.

The Mirror and Labour will be doing a conga as we speak. I must say well played Pippa Crerar & co. Who knew the Mirror ran the country.

Yeah, and the ministers are always the last to know.

Still, they're letting him stick around so that's on them at this point.

DuncinToffee · 08/07/2022 10:29

A liar being exposed is a good thing for a country I would think.

Stop threatening us with a good time Janiie!

Everyone was fummin yesterday that there was a party planned in Chequers, planned obviously before he knew he was out. So once the decision to leave was made the plans changed! Its actually what folk wanted yesterday now it's like 'how very dare he do what we wanted him to do!!' Grin
