To hope Johnson doesn't resign?

Because if he clings on until the next GE, he'll be completely unelectable and we'll be rid of the Tories.

I'm hoping he digs his heels in just like he always has, even though by rights he should be fucking off with his tail between his legs.

'fgs Janiie back up your points with reality not fantasy events that didn’t happen. You’re repeating propaganda that isn’t even backed up by actual real life events mate.'

Mate Grin

Well of course my points aren't backed up by real life events as Labour weren't in power throughout the pandemic, thank God. If they had have been they'd have has us in lockdown longer as evidenced by Starmer's repeated whines for further and longer restrictions.

Cornettoninja · 07/07/2022 12:21

By and large Labour backed the governments response to covid lockdowns. Please don’t try to rewrite history we all lived.

SleeplessInEngland · 07/07/2022 12:21

Apparently a text has gone round begging MPs to stand in support behind the lectern when Johnson gives his resignation speech. I wonder if they can clone enough Nadine Dorries...

A general election would be suicide surely ?
But I wouldn't put it past them to call one !

Given the mess everything is in I would expect a GE. Which the Conservatives I think would hope to lose.

Labour aren’t going to magically get us out of this shit. The world is having similar problems. So we are going to go through 4-5 years of pain which will be associated with Labour then just as the tide is turning and everyone has blamed Labour for losing their homes and people starving on the streets. The Conservatives rife to the rescue for another 15 years.

Be careful about what you wish for because it looks like you might just get it.

DuncinToffee · 07/07/2022 12:27

What if's is really scraping the barrel.

12 years of Tory

A lot of people have suggested this but I don't buy it. The tory party's sole reason to exist is power, they flouner like an upside down tortoise without it. It's never a route they'd choose.

Somethingneedstochange · 07/07/2022 12:31

He should have gone when he come out with he was prepared to let the bodies pile up than go into lockdown. Then we wouldn't be in this mess.

SleeplessInEngland · 07/07/2022 12:34

Johnson officially resigns, but doesn't say how long he'll stick around for. So the nonsense continues.

The current crop also don't have anything like the brains to conceive of and pull off something like that.

SleeplessInEngland · 07/07/2022 12:40

A rambling speech that blames everyone (even his own party) but himself. So Johnson.

A brilliant and dignified speech. Wet weasels like Ellwood and Baker who have been trying to oust him for months should be ashamed of themselves.

A brilliant and dignified speech

it had a good soundtrack.

You're very sad he's gone aren't you....

SleeplessInEngland · 07/07/2022 12:51

Interesting that he's gone so strongly for the betrayal narrative, obviously knowing how it endured with Thatcher. Trouble is that only endured for her because people saw her as principled in the first place.

You must have been watching another channel - in a parallel universe.

Roussette · 07/07/2022 12:53

This is a mirror of my thoughts on it...

Lewis Goodall

"That was embodiment of Boris Johnson and his style. Defiant, bombastic. What there wasn't was what his critics wanted- humility, apology, or any sense of precariousness of his own position even for next months. Not sure at all the tone of that statement will have helped him"

The King has been dethroned.

Cornettoninja · 07/07/2022 12:54

should be ashamed of themselves

but the guy who tried to minimise sexual assault, tried to use his connections to manoeuvre his mistress into high paying positions, lied to the queen, illegally prorogued parliament, tried to break international law, wanted to rip up the GFS and met up with dodgy Russians without following basic protocols should be proud of himself yes?

SueSaid · 07/07/2022 12:55

'You're very sad he's gone aren't you'

Not 'sad' no as I'm a grown up but as it is consuming the news it is hard not to have an opinion.

As he said no one is dispensable. His party have stabbed him in the back whipped up by the constant media hysteria and smears.

If you watch gmb on a morning we've had 2yrs of them tutting and criticising him, yet smarming round Nicola and Sir Beer for exactly the same issues! Perhaps we should stop general elections and just let telly presenters pick?

'Oh come on. Johnson is to blame for his own downfall.'

Well you're of course entitled to your opnion. However they won a landslide because BJ is very popular with the public, he got us through the pandemic when Labour would've had us in solitary confinement for 2yrs. His downfall was Cummings, it wasn't having a sandwich in the office on his birthday nor being responsible for Pincher when Theresa May had happily had him in office despite the allegations.

Funny how folk are mentioning wet drips like Baker and Ellwood on news channels as potential leaders! They need a strong charismatic leader so the very slim pickings does seem to be Zahawi or Zahawi. Wallace is ok but he has a starmer like rabbit in the headlights look about him sometimes.

"Won" yes "won"

Past tense.

I won a running race at infant school. Couldn't run for a bus now.

He had a great opportunity to take the country somewhere as he was so popular and had people hanging on his every word.

Instead he lied and lied and didn't respect those people thinking they'd love him whatever - so hung himself instead.

Cornettoninja · 07/07/2022 12:58

Oh yes, and used his powers for personal reasons when media outlets published stories on him. One minute a story then, poof, gone.

you simply can’t blame the media when Boris blatantly controlled reports without blinking and this was witnessed internationally.

No, I never watch GMB.

He didn't deserve to be PM. That's why he's gone. When you're left with Dorries and Rees-Mogg supporting you, there's something wrong. Her should've gone a long long time ago.

SueSaid · 07/07/2022 12:58

Yes. Except the lefty media who wanted to punish him for brexit and get rid.
