So she cancelled her Vegas thing 24hrs before. Tickets that would have cost thousands were not refunded. It was too late for many to cancel hotels, flights. They lost that money, and that annual leave time.

She never gave a clear explanation except ‘it wasn’t ready. Then total radio silence on when (if ever) it would actually happen.

Then she comes over and does an exclusive show for rich celebrities. The plebs can watch on TV though. Still now word when people who had Vegas tickets would be able to either use those tickets or get refunds.

Then at the weekend she did a gig at Hyde Park, that was simple, not flashy, and it was observed by commentators that this sort of stripped back simple staging would have been more than acceptable to anyone stuck out in Vegas so the tickets they couldn’t use - it’s clearly possible for her to perform that way, she’s seems to generally perform simply. That people wanted to hear her sing, and would not have cared it it was just her on a stage with a piano and a couple of backing singers (like it was in Hyde Park in fact). So really just poses more questions.

And now she has gone on the record to say how much she had to ‘grieve’ for the Vegas show, how hard she found it, and that it is 100% happening this year.

This year. When there’s been no reason recoups indication of this. So people that are still thousands of pounds out of pocket from January, and have no annual leave left to book another trip to Vegas, let alone afford that with such short notice. Looks like they are the ones that will be ‘grieving’.

I used to really love her music - now when she comes on the radio I can’t help but think ‘oh shut up you whiney twat, you have NO idea’.

Think some of these comments are quite harsh. She’s clearly an excellent singer, irrelevant if the music is to your taste to not.

no one is really sure what happened over Vegas, but she said they were hit with continuous delays due to Covid and staff absences for the same reason, meaning it wasn’t ready.

There are rumours she was in disagreement with Caesar’s palace team and she felt it was all a bit shit and unacceptable, which is basically the same thing ,Ie it all comes down to it being a bit shit, from the sound system on. However I struggle to believe she didn’t know about that till the day before so I suspect there was a major disagreement and she went fuck you im cancelling then, not thinking of the fans. As disappointing as it is though, it’s not some major crime, it’s a concert, I’ve travelled for concerts and had them cancelled, it’s shit but hardly worth the ire being shown.

Ok clearly a lot of Harry styles fans on here.

Try these:
"Ed Sheeran cancels show due to 'scheduling conflict'"
"Aerosmith cancel gigs as singer goes into rehab"
"Eric church cancels gig to watch Duke game"
"Eric Clapton cancels tour show due to 'mass hysteria' (covid vaccines)"
Maroon 5 have just cancelled all their summer Canada tour with no reason given 🤷🏻‍♀️

Meanwhile Adele headlines at the time (before anything was known beyond her tearful video)
"Is she ever not sobbing"
"Is Adele music's most unreliable diva?"
"Adele branded a diva"
"Adele's meltdown on Las Vegas"

The issue is not whether artists have good reasons for cancelling or not, the issue is that a successful woman has been torn to shreds over her weight, her decisions, her career, her family, her privacy etc etc in a way we just don't do to men. And that press and media rhetoric is absorbed by people and shows up on threads like this where you all can't wait to slag someone off.

I see no reason why she couldn't have sang, she's given no reason either, she's just defended it, doubling down on all those who lost money.
I had a lot of things cancelled for Covid, and one for Chicken Pox!, decent reasons, all have been played already.

Great voice but not my cup of tea at all. Maudlin, naval-gazing, self-pity set to music.

Hear hear. This needs said again.

Imagine a badly-behaved bloke singing:“Go EeeeeeeeeEEEEaaaaasy on me babe .. I was just a twaaaaat, a selfish one at that”.

Whenever I hear it, which is only ever if I’m on a roundabout or on the slip road to a motorway & don’t want to fiddle with the screen so I have to endure the first line “ mmmm what would be the other person’s view on that?”

She is just dreadful.

StThomasAqAintWrong · 03/07/2022 18:41

Also just to redress the balance most of my favourite artists of all time are female.

I feel the same way about Adele as I do about Elton John. I concede there is talent there. There must be because so many people listen to his music. But he leaves me cold.

In the same way that the Dutch painters are unquestionably technically spot on, but they are saying nothing so one feels nothing looking at their work.

It doesn’t help that Elton John is also a first class cock though. I have difficulty separating him from his music.

I agree. I also think that, while he's a great songwriter, I don't think he's a great singer.

Emmelina · 03/07/2022 20:24

I always thought it was a wishy-washy excuse less than 24 hours before, to be honest. Wasn’t ready? You’d have known a week before. A month before. Plenty of time to postpone etc.

YANBU
Cancelling 24 hours before the show is a total disgrace and to boast that no other performer would have done it, as though it’s some kind badge of honour is just awful.

Yeah I like her but agree with this.

Greenpolkadot · 03/07/2022 20:56

Great voice but miserable whiney up her own arse.dreary. depressive.self centred. And not nice to fans

JLwac · 03/07/2022 21:20

Urgh, obnoxious woman. Can't bear her fakeness, she is so affected. Cannot listen to her nasty speaking voice and constant swearing. Has a gigantic ego and thinks the sun shines out of her own backside. Bleugh.

mac1974 · 03/07/2022 21:21

Ugh can't stand her. I hate hate hate easy on me. Hard to feel sympathy for someone in her position. There's plenty of people who made bad relationship decisions when they were young and are stuck. At least she had the means to get out. She's up her own arse.

Deguster · 03/07/2022 21:27

Adele is the musical equivalent of microwaved lasagne.

Blah.

ReneBumsWombats · 03/07/2022 21:46

I saw her described once as music for people who don't like music.

She's from Tottenham isn't she? Don't go mixing up north and south London!

I was quoting the PP who commented on south london estates…

Incywincyspi · 03/07/2022 22:59

It’s a midland’s expression too! :)

EmeraldShamrock1 · 03/07/2022 23:01

Tbh that's what I've always thought when she comes on the radio.

Me also. So overrated.

Rosehugger · 03/07/2022 13:37

Hell, your parents weren't meant to like your music!😂(Tried to imagine my 1890s born Nan humming along to the Clash. Fails)

That's because Gen X are an extremely open minded and eclectic generation in their musical tastes.

Yes, agreed, although I'm technically a Boomer Grin

I don't want to diss Adele because she's rich and successful, or has lost a lot of weight and certainly not because she's a woman. I think though that the Las Vegas thing was a really bad misstep as it ignored the fans who had paid substantial sums to see her and it really hasn't been sorted, from what I can gather. She needs to address it because it's her name in lights over the entrance.

Sundays365 · 03/07/2022 12:16

I like Adele. Not a fan of her music, but she has always come across as lovely.

She moved to Hollywood, lost weight a shit load of weight and got a very rich, ‘cool’ boyfriend. She’s done well, I’m really happy for her, and of course she’s changed and lost her ‘just a normal girl with a big voice’ appeal. She’s not the chubby kid from Tottenham anymore, she’s an incredibly wealthy, accomplished & successful woman.

The Las Vegas cancellation was unfortunate for the fans and not very professional, I agree, but the outrage and hysterics in the media over it are overkill. Shows get cancelled all the time. Shit happens.

How can a foul mouthed woman come across as lovely. She cones across as common.

Frankly anyone who is prepared to spend that much money and travel thousands of miles for the sole purpose of seeing a two-hour set of songs you could listen to for free on Spotify is mad

What an utterly bizarre thing to say. There are plenty of people who spend money on things I consider to be pointless but that doesnt mean they deserve to lose their money with no compensation. Personally, I cant see the point in spending thousands on a holiday to just fry on a sun lounger all day long and get pissed every night in some tourist hell but I dont think those people deserve to have their holidays cancelled simply because I wouldnt personally spend money on that myself.

I'm guessing you're one of those people who cant get their heads around the fact that others are different to you lol

Strange who's to say everyone who goes on holiday lies on a sundowner all day and drinks too much?

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 04/07/2022 12:37

@Frazzled2207

I’ve never understood the hype about her at all. Yes she can sing well but is
not outstanding by any measure. Happens to have had a small number of excellent songs written for her in the past, and probably at the right time too.

A bit of talent, but mostly good luck. I hope her fans never again go to extreme lengths to see her, only to be disappointed (again.)

That's the thing. She is good - and talented, but nothing special IMO, and I have never seen the mass appeal. Ditto Ed Sheeran. Decent songs, fairly talented, OK singer, but no better than multiple dozens of other performers. I just don't get it.

It has a whiff of 'Emperor's New Clothes' to it.

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 04/07/2022 12:38

This. ^ Also, I have heard quite a number of people say 'if you can afford to spend two grand on a ticket to see Adele in Vegas (like some people did,) you can afford to lose the money you spent on the air fare and hotel.' Maybe slightly harsh, but they do have a point IMO.

so desperate for privacy that she uses intimate conversations with her young son on her album….. what about HIS privacy🙄

ive never seen his picture to be honest. So she keeps him out the way unlike the ghastly Beckhams who have pushed their children into the media from day one.

She generally comes across as very self absorbed, so I am not surprised by this. But yeah, I agree, it's poor taste/
