So she cancelled her Vegas thing 24hrs before. Tickets that would have cost thousands were not refunded. It was too late for many to cancel hotels, flights. They lost that money, and that annual leave time.

She never gave a clear explanation except ‘it wasn’t ready. Then total radio silence on when (if ever) it would actually happen.

Then she comes over and does an exclusive show for rich celebrities. The plebs can watch on TV though. Still now word when people who had Vegas tickets would be able to either use those tickets or get refunds.

Then at the weekend she did a gig at Hyde Park, that was simple, not flashy, and it was observed by commentators that this sort of stripped back simple staging would have been more than acceptable to anyone stuck out in Vegas so the tickets they couldn’t use - it’s clearly possible for her to perform that way, she’s seems to generally perform simply. That people wanted to hear her sing, and would not have cared it it was just her on a stage with a piano and a couple of backing singers (like it was in Hyde Park in fact). So really just poses more questions.

And now she has gone on the record to say how much she had to ‘grieve’ for the Vegas show, how hard she found it, and that it is 100% happening this year.

This year. When there’s been no reason recoups indication of this. So people that are still thousands of pounds out of pocket from January, and have no annual leave left to book another trip to Vegas, let alone afford that with such short notice. Looks like they are the ones that will be ‘grieving’.

I used to really love her music - now when she comes on the radio I can’t help but think ‘oh shut up you whiney twat, you have NO idea’.

I’ve always found her completely overrated and think her music is awful.

TheNinny · 03/07/2022 12:18

Bit off topic and I’m no Adele fan at all, but I took the ‘still a child’ line to mean on an emotional level maybe? She was 19 (or just a bit older maybe) when her first album went big, when most of her peers were still living at home, studying, dating casually. She was thrown into the limelight very quickly. While yes, people that age have kids, get married, start careers, the majority don’t. I think her fame likely propelled some misjudged decisions regarding relationships etc. who knows, but she became extremely rich and famous in her early 20’s and not many young people could handle that. So I think she meant she was still child like in handling grown up decisions with relationships due to being consumed with her singing career…or something to that affect.

that being said, I find her music very self pitying so defo not a fan.

In a nutshell.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/07/2022 12:21

I would never buy tickets after the Vegas cancellation.

FuchsAndMöhr · 03/07/2022 11:27

🤣🤣🤣

I mean, she’s a lot of things but tone deaf isn’t one of them! What a strange insult!

Don't think it's referring to her singing...

I like Adele. Not a fan of her music, but she has always come across as lovely.

She moved to Hollywood, lost weight a shit load of weight and got a very rich, ‘cool’ boyfriend. She’s done well, I’m really happy for her, and of course she’s changed and lost her ‘just a normal girl with a big voice’ appeal. She’s not the chubby kid from Tottenham anymore, she’s an incredibly wealthy, accomplished & successful woman.

The Las Vegas cancellation was unfortunate for the fans and not very professional, I agree, but the outrage and hysterics in the media over it are overkill. Shows get cancelled all the time. Shit happens.

But when you've had to book flights, hotels and a fair bit of leave?

I wouldn't do it but I can see why the anger when there was no notice

RitaFires · 03/07/2022 10:38

I found it funny that she was saying other performers wouldn't cancel like that like it was a badge of honour, that she wouldn't put on a show that she wasn't 100% happy with. Most performers have a "the show must go on" mentality and have probably had to do shows in really inconvenient circumstances. When Michelle from Destiny's Child fell on the ground the other girls kept dancing and singing and I'd bet there's way worse examples of people having to perform on a bare stage or acapella because things didn't arrive on time.

I saw a band perform with an accoustic guitar by torch light after a power cut once.

Glittertwins · 03/07/2022 12:30

I'm not a huge fan but after she cancelled the last dates of her original last tour in the UK citing vocal chord issues and shoe horning in last minute dates prior to that last planned date which would have exacerbated the problem, I'd have never forked out for the US as I see her as too much of a flake.

I think the location was the biggest issue.

if she was cancelling a London residency or something like that, most people would probably be relatively local or only taking one day off work, so yes a cancellation would be a pain but not a huge issue.

Whereas for Vegas, people would have bought tickets then booked a holiday around her show, so the flights/hotel/annual leave making it more of a game changer in terms of hassle/outrage. the fact that she’s never acknowledged that fact or even apologised to her fans for it shows a distinct lack of respect or awareness

DorritLittle · 03/07/2022 12:34

I thought she came across on desert island discs as lovely and down to earth. Agree the Vegas thing was odd and annoying for all involved though. I expect thete were things behind the scenes as it seems a pretty surprising decision when it was clear it would upset so many fans. I therefore doubt it was avoidable.

The audience with shows I can't stand anyway. Whoever does them.

RedWreck · 03/07/2022 12:34

Hoo-bloody-ray, I've actually found others who think Adele is overrated!
Some of the songs are ok I suppose & she can certainly sing but I just don't get the adulation were all supposed to have for an average artist.
TBF she lost it when she insisted her album must be listened to in the correct order & Spotify bowed down to her.
I'll pass thanks.

Dave Grohl broke a leg on stage after misjudging a jump, and completed the show, though obviously had to cancel the rest of the tour. But Dave Grohl is exceptional and it’s not recommended!

I liked Adele when she was younger but she’s up there with Coldplay, U2 etc, all of whom I went off once they’d got mega big. Adele’s stuff all sounds the same. Artists like Bowie and Prince were much more versatile.

ReneBumsWombats · 03/07/2022 12:41

She’s not the chubby kid from Tottenham anymore, she’s an incredibly wealthy, accomplished & successful woman.

She's a professional being paid to do a job. There are plenty of people just as talented as she is but without the luck. You don't tell the fans, who pay you and to whom you owe your wealth, success and accomplishment, that you don't have to do the show they paid for just because you don't want to and insult them for "buying" you. It's unprofessional, ungrateful and arrogant.

VladmirsPoutine · 03/07/2022 12:41

I've long thought if a celeb of any kind can provoke the kind of emotions and vitriol as seen in this thread then the individual affected really needs to seek therapy or some kind of outside help or indeed go outside and consider having more things in their lives to fret about than a multimillionaire who really couldn't give a flying about you. It's very unhealthy. I enjoy music, some of Adele's songs even but some of this energy is extremely unhealthy.

JiminyGlick · 03/07/2022 11:57

I just don’t get why anyone likes her.

I have to change to station in the car if her music comes on.

The whole self-pity crap when it was she who let everyone down is just disingenuous.

Because people have different tastes?

I think she's got an amazing voice. I enjoy listening to her songs.

Schmz · 03/07/2022 12:43

Aww be nice - u know she’s still a child
can’t stand her !!

loved the first 2 albums since then she’s been like Ed. Every goddam song the same !!!!

DaphneMoonsSeattle · 03/07/2022 12:49

Jesus, stop investing your life in what she is, or isn't like as a person. Enjoy her music or don't. Whatever

Now. That's us told. Do not talk about Adele. (Is that the First Rule of Adele?) Do not have an opinion about Adele. Rosehips said so.

Would it be okay to talk about the weather? Or should we all just get on with our lives and nevermind about what the weather is doing? How dare we discuss the weather?! The weather has been going to a shit time lately. DON'T YOU DARE JUDGE THE POOR WEATHER!!!

Out of curiosity, which posters’ angst do you think are worthy of therapy?

Ori1 · 03/07/2022 12:52

Honestly, “Easy on Me” says it all. Self-obsessed, tone deaf to others’ around her & almost a bit narcissistic tbh.

Don't be silly. Most people won't think of her from one month to the next, and then only fleetingly if a song comes on the radio. But when asked for an opinion, it's entirely possible to have one without needing therapy.

I think she's very talented and has a great voice. I wanted to listen to 30 as soon as it was released but I found the autobiographical nature of the lyrics quite distasteful and it wasn't for me. Since then, I've caught interviews and found that she comes across as very self-absorbed. Maybe that is typical of people who have had experienced enormous success, but others are better at hiding it. I don't know and am not bothered enough to dwell on it.

RachelGreeneGreep · 03/07/2022 12:57

I never got the hype about her. Her songs all sound the same to me.

YANBU, OP.

Bonjovispjs · 03/07/2022 13:02

I like some of her songs, but a lot are so dreary and dull, I'd never spend a penny to see her live as she's obviously so unreliable.

missdemeanors · 03/07/2022 13:03

Yanbu

I admire (most of) her song writing but she's become completely self absorbed and seems to have developed some pretty unpleasant character traits.

The cancellation of the Las Vegas shows, the Titanic themed party and the exploitation of her child on her latest album have done it for me.

Cornettoninja · 03/07/2022 13:04

She can crack out a decent mournful ballard but unfortunately shes a victim of her own success. People like a depressing song that verbalises a feeling they identify with, she’s lost whatever made her relatable because of her success.

She should stick to songwriting for others.
