So she cancelled her Vegas thing 24hrs before. Tickets that would have cost thousands were not refunded. It was too late for many to cancel hotels, flights. They lost that money, and that annual leave time.

She never gave a clear explanation except ‘it wasn’t ready. Then total radio silence on when (if ever) it would actually happen.

Then she comes over and does an exclusive show for rich celebrities. The plebs can watch on TV though. Still now word when people who had Vegas tickets would be able to either use those tickets or get refunds.

Then at the weekend she did a gig at Hyde Park, that was simple, not flashy, and it was observed by commentators that this sort of stripped back simple staging would have been more than acceptable to anyone stuck out in Vegas so the tickets they couldn’t use - it’s clearly possible for her to perform that way, she’s seems to generally perform simply. That people wanted to hear her sing, and would not have cared it it was just her on a stage with a piano and a couple of backing singers (like it was in Hyde Park in fact). So really just poses more questions.

And now she has gone on the record to say how much she had to ‘grieve’ for the Vegas show, how hard she found it, and that it is 100% happening this year.

This year. When there’s been no reason recoups indication of this. So people that are still thousands of pounds out of pocket from January, and have no annual leave left to book another trip to Vegas, let alone afford that with such short notice. Looks like they are the ones that will be ‘grieving’.

I used to really love her music - now when she comes on the radio I can’t help but think ‘oh shut up you whiney twat, you have NO idea’.

Never met the woman, couldn't give a monkeys about her Las Vegas thing and I wouldn't pay 50p to see her sing but she was hilarious with James Corden Carpool Karaoke and Met your Adele with Graham Norton. Not sure I like the LA Mansion, bling ring, gastric band version so much. Still like her music though.

Jesus, stop investing your life in what she is, or isn't like as a person. Enjoy her music or don't. Whatever

Now. That's us told. Do not talk about Adele. (Is that the First Rule of Adele?) Do not have an opinion about Adele. Rosehips said so.

Would it be okay to talk about the weather? Or should we all just get on with our lives and nevermind about what the weather is doing? How dare we discuss the weather?! The weather has been going to a shit time lately. DON'T YOU DARE JUDGE THE POOR WEATHER!!!

I just find it weird and unhealthy that people are so invested in whether Adele is a nice enough person. I mean Bono is a right dick but I still like some of U2's music. I loved Amy Winehouse but you wouldn't know if she was going to turn up to a show, let alone put in a performance. Loads of artists from the 1960s onwards were regularly shit faced through drink and/or drugs and behaved like right cunts at times. Yet people are expecting Adele, whose shenanigans are pretty minor in the grand scheme of things, to be some kind of paragon of virtue. And not on some fan forum either, but on a general MN board for all and sundry, on a thread started by someone who can't even spell her name. Rather sad.

NippyWoowoo · 03/07/2022 13:10

I'm a fan of sleb Blind Items and she is repeatedly described as a Diva. I don't know if that's misogynistic though as it's a term only used to describe 'difficult' women.

Rumours are also that her BF acts as her manager and pushes her to demand more and throw a tantrum when she doesn't get what she wants.

I think she quite capable of making her own decisions without having to blame it on a partner.

Whatever the truth it, she doesn't come across well at all for the Vegas fiasco

GentlemanJay · 03/07/2022 13:11

We were saying this after a friend said how simple her Hyde Park show was.

CuriousMama · 03/07/2022 13:11

So glad I'm not the only one. My finger moves faster than lightening when she comes on the car radio.

GentlemanJay · 03/07/2022 13:13

thebellagio · 03/07/2022 11:07

That was what never made sense. She’s never been an acrobatic performer like Pink, or a dancer like Britney. Her whole show is about her standing there singing, so it never made sense that it “wasn’t ready”. That venue was fine for Celine, Mariah, Shania, Elton so I fail to see how it wasn’t suitable for Adele.

i used to like her but the way that she waited so long to cancel was terrible. She would have known 10-14 days in advance, so to let people fly to Vegas was terrible. Especially using Covid as an excuse, so that would have knocked of what? Two weeks? But it’s been 4 months an utter silence….

This.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind1 · 03/07/2022 13:16

I read blind items too and also read that about her BF.

ThelmaDinkley · 03/07/2022 13:18

YANBU. Can’t stand bloody Adele. Turn off when she comes on. Amy Winehouse was a much better singer imo.

billy1966 · 03/07/2022 13:20

butterflied · 03/07/2022 12:20

In a nutshell.

I think the Vegas cancellation was the epitome of pure selfishness when her health or a sudden bereavement wasn't the reason.

It take some level of selfishness to cost people so much money for so ridiculous a reason.

Unforgivable IMO.

I'm not a fan but I do think she has shown herself to be a self absorbed whine who is utterly tone deaf.

How anyone would trust her with their money again is beyond me.

stayathomer · 03/07/2022 13:21

Frankly anyone who is prepared to spend that much money and travel thousands of miles for the sole purpose of seeing a two-hour set of songs you could listen to for free on Spotify is mad.
I thought that at first then thought if you were doing your big trip of a lifetime and saw your favourite artist was playing there, you might try and organise it for then.

Cornettoninja · 03/07/2022 13:23

@Rosehugger i don’t think labelling people as ‘sad’ is fair.

Adeles manages to display two traits that are just very unpopular. The Vegas debacle makes her look like a grifter and the therapy lyrics like a whiner (I agree the ‘I was still a child’ lyric was a terrible judgement to include). Certainly with the vegas thing she really needs to acknowledge that she’s directly responsible for people being out of pocket.

Shes good at what she does, but being good on it’s own often isn’t enough in any profession. You could be the best surgeon in the world but if you keep cancelling operations people are going to say you’re shit.

usernamenotaccepted · 03/07/2022 13:23

I think the whole 'show wasn't ready' was really said about Adele not being ready, whatever that may have meant at the time. Once said, she's had to stick to that narrative; that explanation makes sense to me because her stage sets aren't terribly complicated, no hordes of dancers/musicians/set changes etc I know nothing about such things though

Triple platinum album, 65,000 at her concert. She's just so unpopular and bad at what she does.

brown543 · 03/07/2022 13:28

I saw her on Friday night (corporate tickets, so at no cost). I also had a negative view of the LV cancellation which came across as quite spoilt and insensitive to her fans.

That said, she almost won me over with the stuff she said at the concert. She was quite funny and had a good rapport with the crowd. Sang well too.

Then again, I'm not out of pocket and I'd be fuming if I'd chosen to reschedule and there's no visibility of when that is.

What an utterly bizarre thing to say. There are plenty of people who spend money on things I consider to be pointless but that doesnt mean they deserve to lose their money with no compensation. Personally, I cant see the point in spending thousands on a holiday to just fry on a sun lounger all day long and get pissed every night in some tourist hell but I dont think those people deserve to have their holidays cancelled simply because I wouldnt personally spend money on that myself.

I'm guessing you're one of those people who cant get their heads around the fact that others are different to you lol

The misogyny across all of this thread is awful. And it's created by the press and Daily Fail abusive headlines.

Male stars cancel shows all the time. Can you name any that got slammed in the press? Funny that - FYI Harry Styles cancelled his due to Covid in his team (same as Adele's delay), Lewis Capaldi cancelled his due to wanting to 'focus on making new album'. The difference in the headlines was stark.

Make stars also sing about breakups. Don't get labelled wingny.

Bob Geldof, David Beckham, Jeremy Paxman all have done tax evasion, people still love them - how many of you wouldn't balk at paying £5m?!

FunDragon · 03/07/2022 13:30

waterrat · 03/07/2022 12:01

I have never forgotten her saying she feels murderous when she sees her tax bill - she said 'why should I pay it when state schools are shit'

Love - paying taxes keeps this country policed, protected, educated, children supported (well - it would if the tories weren't cutting it all) - it's a privilege to pay taxes - and without them you wouldn't be safe to record music - have a look at a war torn tax free country like somalia if you want a comparison

Yes I always thought that comment showed who she really was.

Plus I think most of us would absolutely love to be in a position to receive a £5 million income tax bill.

flutterbybabycakes · 03/07/2022 13:31

She's just a professional cockney and not a great singer technically nor in any other way. Sounds like a cruise ship singer. People have forgotten what real talent is. The voices of the 90s singers were phenomenal but now it's all XFactor grade crap. I still listen to old stuff.

Adelle relies on her personality (which is two a penny down south London council estates) and perceived charm, plus the dire low standards of today's youth.

As long as you don't want to shuffle the tracks 😂

@Useranon1 Exactly. This thread is the perfect demonstration of how so many are unhealthily interested in celeb's private lives and gossip, why the shitty tabloids still exist and why the papparazzi pursued Diana to her death. Revolting.

Not many youths are fans of Adele. It's mature adults who are her fan base.

I think the music industry gave up trying to help enable real generational talent to hit the mainstream a couple of decades ago.

The result is acts like Adele, Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, and Taylor Swift are now The Biggest Acts on the Planet. Of course they are all fine enough musicians, and between them them they definitely have a dozen great songs (unfortunately fewer than indivudal greats of bygone eras by a factor of five or ten). But still, they’re totally fine. And they’re all also extremely safe, bland, and inoffensive and sell by the truck load. And they churn out stuff your little sister and your mum and your gran and your great gran can all tap along too with YouTube hits in the billions.

Agree with all of this. MOR now seems to dominate, with much less in the space traditionally occupied by what younger people were generating and loved.

Hell, your parents weren't meant to like your music!😂(Tried to imagine my 1890s born Nan humming along to the Clash. Fails)

That's because Gen X are an extremely open minded and eclectic generation in their musical tastes.

User678040 · 03/07/2022 13:38

She sounds great on her records, but her voice isn’t very good live, is it? I watched her on TV in some live performance once and was very surprised that she’s actually a bit rubbish. Her voice was very wobbly and out of tune.

Like most so-called entertainers today, she is massively over-hyped. But some of her songs aren’t bad.

Neither Harry Styles or Lewis Capaldi cancelled a show because it "wasn't ready"
Both rescheduled ASAP.
I've saw both in June.
