So she cancelled her Vegas thing 24hrs before. Tickets that would have cost thousands were not refunded. It was too late for many to cancel hotels, flights. They lost that money, and that annual leave time.

She never gave a clear explanation except ‘it wasn’t ready. Then total radio silence on when (if ever) it would actually happen.

Then she comes over and does an exclusive show for rich celebrities. The plebs can watch on TV though. Still now word when people who had Vegas tickets would be able to either use those tickets or get refunds.

Then at the weekend she did a gig at Hyde Park, that was simple, not flashy, and it was observed by commentators that this sort of stripped back simple staging would have been more than acceptable to anyone stuck out in Vegas so the tickets they couldn’t use - it’s clearly possible for her to perform that way, she’s seems to generally perform simply. That people wanted to hear her sing, and would not have cared it it was just her on a stage with a piano and a couple of backing singers (like it was in Hyde Park in fact). So really just poses more questions.

And now she has gone on the record to say how much she had to ‘grieve’ for the Vegas show, how hard she found it, and that it is 100% happening this year.

This year. When there’s been no reason recoups indication of this. So people that are still thousands of pounds out of pocket from January, and have no annual leave left to book another trip to Vegas, let alone afford that with such short notice. Looks like they are the ones that will be ‘grieving’.

I used to really love her music - now when she comes on the radio I can’t help but think ‘oh shut up you whiney twat, you have NO idea’.

This. ^ The cheeky Laaandan gal who came from nowhere, with just pure raw talent, and who everyone loved and adored has been lost to glitz and glamour and the bullshit world of fake Hollywood/Las Vegas type shite. I hope she wakes up and smells the coffee one day, but the Adele we used to know and love has disappeared sadly... Sad

SpiderinaWingMirror · 03/07/2022 11:21

Its piss poor.
Like her or not, you should not treat people like that. It's shameful.

Itsallok · 03/07/2022 11:24

great voice......but is entitled, whining and a massive egotist with so little insight into her own bullshit its depressing

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 03/07/2022 11:25

YANBU I once saw an opera where they had no special effects, the lighting was barely there etc and they kept at it anyway. Although I am equally miffed that the show went on for Roger Waters in 2020 while I was stuck in a tiny flat in a lockdown and the US wasn't letting people from here in and anyone with half a brain wasn't going to bloody concerts. Thank god I hadn't booked flights etc so just lost the price of the tickets.

RedLorryTime · 03/07/2022 11:25

YANBU. I've thought that she was a twat since she had a Titanic themed birthday party complete with lifejackets.*

Curious why people find 'easy on me'
Nauseating though?

Do you really need to be told ?

It's a self pitying whinge. A whole song of her whining, 'don't be hard on me' is what it means. I know you're upset, that's her now ex husband and son. But my upset is more important so take it easy on me.....

'I was just a child, didn't get the chance to feel the world around me.'

That's the now ex husband, Simon Koneki who supported her before she made it big. Then when she had the world at her feet, just didn't fit in with her lifestyle anymore. Then she's got the fucking gall to whine, 'take it easy on me' because it's only her hurt that matters.

The fact she referenced her son in that song was questionable IMO. I really cringed for her. She has no boundaries. She'll regret that one day. But she's obviously the kind of person who does not have regrets.

She very recently did a Desert Island Discs interview. She remarked on her cancellation of her Vegas shows. Her attitude is, 'well, I was upset too.'

There was a picture of her in the passenger seat of her boyfriend's car a couple of days after she cancelled her Vegas shows with her handbag over her face to shun the cameras. I couldn't help but think, 'just who do you think you are ?'

Her total, 'I don't expect to be criticised' attitude stinks.

(I don't mind her songs from 19 and 21 but Easy on Me makes me realise why other people don't like her music.)

Mumwithbaggage · 03/07/2022 11:25

Just wish she would sing in tune! The clip I saw on the news of Hyde Park was awful. Never got the hype.

🤣🤣🤣

I mean, she’s a lot of things but tone deaf isn’t one of them! What a strange insult!

The turning point for me was when she included her sons voice on her latest album. She had always been so private about him and I had huge respect for that. But to monetise a child asking why mummy and daddy don’t love each other anymore just felt so personal and intrusive I felt really uncomfortable listening to it

This. As a child of divorced parents and the mother of a wee boy the same age as her son, it was dreadful to hear. My heart went out to him. To record and then sell his heartache was absolutely wrong, intrusive and very disrespectful.
I used to like her and had her early albums but this totally turned me off her as a person and artist.

SquirrelSoShiny · 03/07/2022 11:32

Yes DH and I were talking about this yesterday after all the gushing headlines. I still remember people talking about how far they travelled to see her in Las Vegas and some ended up paying 1200 dollars for flights and accommodation. She never even tried to explain it. It really put me off her.

ToffeeNotCoffee · 03/07/2022 11:32

Her accent is so harsh and hard it's like she's putting it on so as not to sound posh. I couldn't listen to it 24/7.

Yeah, she's from Tottenham but once knew a bloke from Tottenham and he didn't speak like that. Perfectly normal speaking voice, well for London anyway !

She speaks like someone who is not from London trying to sound like they are from London because they think it's cool to speak like that.

She cancelled her Vegas shows because she spent more time arguing with her boyfriend when she should have been rehearsing. To me her excuses sounded like a child snivelling because they had not done their homework.

RosesAndHellebores · 03/07/2022 11:33

I clicked on this thinking it was about a Leeds suburb - Adel.

Who is Adele? Another singer?

hatinacat · 03/07/2022 11:33

Total and utter drama queen.

She needs to get over herself.

mintybobs · 03/07/2022 11:34

My opinion of her is in the gutter now. She used to be kind of real and relateable. Now she has her head so far up her arse she could check for polyps.

She's treated her fans appallingly- these are the people who put here where she is now and all she can do is whine about how hard cancelling the gig was for HER? what about people who spent money on the gig and plane tickets - it may have been a birthday treat for them that they saved up for and now have lost it.

I hope people stop buying her tickets - then she'd something REAL to whine about.

IGotItInTheSales · 03/07/2022 11:34

I also immediately thought about Leeds!

DontLikeCoffee · 03/07/2022 11:35

‘Easy On Me’ is just a screechy, whiny assault on my ears. It makes my brain hurt.

Redcrayons · 03/07/2022 11:38

YANBU
Cancelling 24 hours before the show is a total disgrace and to boast that no other performer would have done it, as though it’s some kind badge of honour is just awful.

Badger1970 · 03/07/2022 11:40

She's clearly a very talented studio singer who is crippled by anxiety when going on stage and performing live. She should never have agreed to any of it in the first place.

Why not just admit that she's not a live performer? There's no shame in it - but there is shame in making people shell out for travel and hotels when you've got no intention of standing on stage in front of them.

Butchyrestingface · 03/07/2022 11:40

I quite liked her 19 and 21 albums (not a superfan by any means) but other than that, don't know much about her beyond the fact she cancelled her Vegas show in a paroxysm of weeping.

You're right though, @Rinoachicken . When you detail it all out, she sounds atrocious. Grin

Lockheart · 03/07/2022 11:40

Frankly anyone who is prepared to spend that much money and travel thousands of miles for the sole purpose of seeing a two-hour set of songs you could listen to for free on Spotify is mad.

Oh my.

A 1910s style party, if you like the clothes, could be quite good fun. A party based on the film and dressed up like the characters is a bit closer to the bone, given the actual disaster was real, but I could probably get past it. Life jackets and the rest? Perfect right to do it, of course, but I find that in very poor taste.

I find most of her music not great taste, to be honest. I like one or two of the songs but most of them are pretty dreary. Great voice but no better than any other professional singer - you are supposed to be good at something if you do it professionally. The singer at the band for my wedding was ten times better.

Meraas · 03/07/2022 11:48

Chikapu · 03/07/2022 10:29

oh shut up you whiney twat

Tbh that's what I've always thought when she comes on the radio.

Yep, sums it up.

So unprofessional.

Sillystripytail · 03/07/2022 11:48

I absolutely love her music and went to her tour after 25 came out but I don't love the most recent album like the others, I barely listen to it. Also, she handled the Vegas stuff so badly. She's definitely changed since she went to live in LA, seems so much more up her own arse.

Bbq1 · 03/07/2022 11:48

Testarossa44 · 03/07/2022 11:04

To use a South Yorkshire expression, I find her and her songs Mardy.

Off thread I know but what does Mardy mean in South Yorkshire? It's also a Northern expression and it means petulant/moody here. Does it mean the same? Just curious!

DontLikeCoffee · 03/07/2022 11:51

In the part of the midlands I live mardy is like being grumpy or having a strop.
