To be totally gutted for American women?

Anothernamechangeplease · 24/06/2022 15:19

The US Supreme Court has reversed the Roe v Wade ruling. Millions of American women have lost their right to make decisions about what happens to their own bodies. Sad

I have never had an abortion and personally, I'm not sure if I ever could, but I have always been passionately of the view that individual women should be able to make that choice for themselves. It's awful that this right has been removed for so many.

is it your preference that woman without access to legal abortion should commit suicide instead?

You didn't ask maliciously but it's a bit of a stretch to go from 'abortion is depressing' to 'you want to see women kill themselves'. I mean, in an ideal world, nobody would need to have to have one. There would be no adverse medical reasons and contraception would be for all and completely effective. Some people simply don't like the idea of killing the fetus even if it's deemed the better choice, it's still not a pleasant thing for anyone.

Not having a go, but just saying.

Villagewaspbyke · 24/06/2022 22:05

I think women should have a right to decide what happens with their own bodies. No woman should be forced to bear a child.

I might not agree with someone’s reasons to have an abortion but they should absolutely have the legal right to do so imo. Basic bodily autonomy should be an absolute right.

Dead 💐💐💐so sorry

TheLassWiADelicateAir · 24/06/2022 21:33

Just echoing your sentiment. How is it possible for any adult not to know that rape is used as a weapon in war?

This is the level of ignorance that presumes to dictate to others and remove rational choice is it?

Why and when did ignorance become so easily justifiable in developed countries, and often so lauded that it can have this level of impact?

Hornbostel · 24/06/2022 22:05

All in my view, of course.

Your view that you want to force on other people.

@greywinds - actually abortion was a common practice when the constitution was written. It was referred to as bringing down the menses and was considered normall until quickening (i.e. when the woman felt the baby kick).

do you know how it was done, please?

I think so too. We can have our own private thoughts, but it ends there. Using a living child as a stick to beat women with is sick, and it puts children themselves in some extremely dangerous positions regarding abuse.

RoseslnTheHospital · 24/06/2022 22:07

@FreyaStorm you know that contraception is never 100%. Out of 100 women using condoms effectively 2 will still get pregnant. Not everyone can use hormonal contraception like implants. And so on.

Your view isn't naive or cynical, it's just wilfully ignorant.

Fluffyslippersohyes · 24/06/2022 22:10

Again, isn't it good to have a choice?

You don't have to have an abortion if you don't want to. But isn't it good forcwomen to have the option if for whatever reason, they don't want to continue with their pregnancy.

Also contraception isn't always free in the US so I've read.

FreyaStorm · 24/06/2022 22:11

EmmaH2022 · 24/06/2022 21:51

If you are honest, I have no judgement.

is it your preference that woman without access to legal abortion should commit suicide instead?

no judgement, just curious.

It wouldn’t be my preference, no. Excluding all the scenarios where I think abortion is a necessary evil, if some women were to choose that route, it would probably be highly publicised and may make many others consider their contraceptive practices more keenly.
Either way, someone dies ☹️

EmmaH2022 · 24/06/2022 22:13

whoopi I don't understand your comment, apologies if I am being dense.

I asked the question because if I were pregnant and couldn't abort, that would be my choice.

I have literally had nightmares where I found out I was pregnant too late to abort. I have only ever had while sex on the pill AND using condoms. I mentioned on another thread, I was refused sterilisation.

Fluffyslippersohyes · 24/06/2022 22:13

Sorry my comment was in reply to FreyaStorm about women in abusive relationships who don't LTB and go on to have the baby. Well if you take away access to abortion she won't have much choice and would make her more trapped.

FreyaStorm · 24/06/2022 22:16

Reallyreallyborednow · 24/06/2022 21:54

Get the implant, double bag him, whatever. You don’t need to be getting accidentally knocked up

you realise “double bagging” will likely lead to accidentally getting knocked up?

using two condoms is not safer, they are more likely to fail or split due to friction created between the two.

yet here you are insisting everyone has access to reliable contraception- you are one of who doesn't appear to know how to use condoms properly- Which makes your preaching completely hypocritical.

The “double bagging” was a turn of phrase, to emphasise a point. Time to unclench 😂

EmmaH2022 · 24/06/2022 22:16

Thanks Freya I don't think it would be highly publicised and I don't think those suicides would prevent others.

I don't think it will happen, because other methods will be available and probably most women will opt for those.

Notonthestairs · 24/06/2022 22:17

"Time to unclench" - from someone who wants control over other women!

the80sweregreat · 24/06/2022 22:17

What next ? Banning same sex marriage?

EmmaH2022 · 24/06/2022 22:18

I was going to comment on the double bag too. No, I can't unclench because now there'll be even MORE unwanted brats around, we really must be careful...there will be some 17 year old reading this who thinks double bagging is good.

EmmaH2022 · 24/06/2022 22:18

the80sweregreat · 24/06/2022 22:17

Yes
and contraception

FreyaStorm · 24/06/2022 22:18

If the woman is in an abusive relationship, then the “sex” is rape, and therefore qualifies for a guilt free abortion (in my book).

the80sweregreat · 24/06/2022 22:19

It is such a backward ruling , a sad day for American women.

So it wouldn't be your preference but you still think it would be good because more people would be more careful with contraception?

Are you actually capable of empathy?

Wouldloveanother · 24/06/2022 22:19

FreyaStorm · 24/06/2022 22:18

If the woman is in an abusive relationship, then the “sex” is rape, and therefore qualifies for a guilt free abortion (in my book).

But how would this be enforced? How would you decide whether a relationship was abusive or not? Or abusive ‘enough’?

Pumperthepumper · 24/06/2022 22:20

Banning contraception will be next, also tests like the nuchal fold.

Hornbostel · 24/06/2022 22:21

the80sweregreat · 24/06/2022 22:17

What next ? Banning same sex marriage?

I'm sure there are some on this thread who would like that too.

Oh dear!
I strongly rescind the flippant double bagging comment 🤦‍♀️
