To be totally gutted for American women?

Anothernamechangeplease · 24/06/2022 15:19

The US Supreme Court has reversed the Roe v Wade ruling. Millions of American women have lost their right to make decisions about what happens to their own bodies. Sad

I have never had an abortion and personally, I'm not sure if I ever could, but I have always been passionately of the view that individual women should be able to make that choice for themselves. It's awful that this right has been removed for so many.

First of all I didn't even know that was a thing that happened.

Jesus fucking wept.

Just echoing your sentiment. How is it possible for any adult not to know that rape is used as a weapon in war?

CoastalWave · 24/06/2022 21:33

RoseslnTheHospital · 24/06/2022 21:24

@CoastalWave the alternative is forcing women who don't want to, to be pregnant, give birth, care for a baby and child till adulthood. That's barbaric. And comes with serious risks to their life, physical and mental health. Because the reality is that women and girls will always experience unwanted pregnancies because no contraception is perfect, peoples lives are chaotic and not in their control, sex is not always wanted or consented to, accidents happen etc etc.

The rights of a < 10 week old foetus (in the very vast majority of uk maternal choice abortions) should not outweigh the rights of the women in question.

I personally find it disgusting that people make out abortion is 'normal' and that most women have had one at some point. We should not be normalising killing life. End of. Don't want to get pregnant - do something about that. Education is what is needed. We're already at the point where you can pretty much get abortion pills over the counter on a whim as though you were treating a sore throat.

I admit my judgement is very very much clouded from having lost a baby at 17weeks.

Pumperthepumper · 24/06/2022 21:34

Where can you buy abortion pills over the counter?

CoastalWave · 24/06/2022 21:35

Pumperthepumper · 24/06/2022 21:23

but it is bloody shocking to my mind that you can simply kill a baby for no reason other than it's your body.

Its bloody shocking to my mind that there are people who think a 12-week old foetus is more important than the life it’s growing in, and that bodily autonomy is less important than that. ‘Because it’s your body’ is pretty important, don’t you think? What else should we control other people’s bodies for?

It's my body but apparently I wasn't allowed to think that when being harassed not having a covid vaccine. MY BODY MY CHOICE - but only when it's to do with killing babies. Ok then.

Pumperthepumper · 24/06/2022 21:36

Who forced you to have the covid vaccine?

DuncinToffee · 24/06/2022 21:37

FreyaStorm seems to have a very naive view of some perfect world were nobody has accidents, everyone can afford another child and is in a happy stable relationship.

What about some links to back up your stats?

EmmaH2022 · 24/06/2022 21:37

Pumperthepumper · 24/06/2022 21:36

Who forced you to have the covid vaccine?

Well, if you worked for certain organisations, you were told you'd lose your job.

Pumperthepumper · 24/06/2022 21:37

Actually @CoastalWave a better comparison would be to have been denied access to the vaccine.

RevoltingHumanHead · 24/06/2022 21:38

I personally find it disgusting that people make out abortion is 'normal' and that most women have had one at some point.

1 in 4 American women have had an abortion by the age of 45. It's not 'most' but it's a significant number and it is normal.

EmmaH2022 · 24/06/2022 21:38

Pumperthepumper · 24/06/2022 21:36

Who forced you to have the covid vaccine?

And also, by that logic, the anti abortion lot will say "well no one is forcing you to have a baby. Abstain".

Brideandprejudice · 24/06/2022 20:10

Sorry for being an average person and not an expert on what's happening in every single country in the world.

I wasn't allowed an education and I've done well to teach myself everything I know so far.

Do you not have access to television, radio, news outlets, social media. Are you unaware of what is happening in Ukraine?

Ah well, fuck abortion then.

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 24/06/2022 21:39

@CoastalWave you say there is education, but I'm afraid I have to disagree. Sex ed in America is utterly abysmal, only 38 states have mandate to teach it, and 30 of those basically go as far as 'don't have sex until marriage' and that's it. So no, in the US there is NOT education.

Harassing somebody to do something is unpleasant.

Legislating is a whole different level.

No one forced you to have a Covid vaccine. Embarrassed for you.

Pumperthepumper · 24/06/2022 21:40

Oh miserable kids growing up with a feckless and lazy mother is much better than abortion!

Freya, some of women have no choice about getting knocked up by their abusive husbands.

I know, it’s awful, but how many of those women actually LTB and get an abortion (I’m cool with that). Or is it the case that those women stay trapped in the relationship and go onto have the baby?

That is not the case.

Where can you buy abortion pills over the counter?

Pro-forced pregnancy people refer to the morning after pill as an abortion pill 🙄 maybe she means that? Other wise, no I don't think you can get them OTC. You can get them delivered to your house by hospital pharmacies though.

Cartoonmom · 24/06/2022 21:43

@greywinds - actually abortion was a common practice when the constitution was written. It was referred to as bringing down the menses and was considered normall until quickening (i.e. when the woman felt the baby kick).

DuncinToffee · 24/06/2022 21:43

Forced sterilisation now?

Notonthestairs · 24/06/2022 21:44

Looks that way.

JanisMoplin · 24/06/2022 21:44

Look at this 18-yr-old on a minimum wage forced to bear twins in Texas and having a mythical god shoved down her throat. Fucking barbaric. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/06/20/texas-abortion-law-teen-mom/
