To be totally gutted for American women?

Anothernamechangeplease · 24/06/2022 15:19

The US Supreme Court has reversed the Roe v Wade ruling. Millions of American women have lost their right to make decisions about what happens to their own bodies. Sad

I have never had an abortion and personally, I'm not sure if I ever could, but I have always been passionately of the view that individual women should be able to make that choice for themselves. It's awful that this right has been removed for so many.

Sorry @CountDuckula100 posted too soon - of course, the massive flaw is that the number of abortions won’t decrease. In fact, the number of deaths will massively increase - because safe abortions will no longer be available. So bad news all round, I’m afraid.

This is the bit I don’t get

surely its obvious that women will still get pregnant and still seek an abortion but it will an unsafe abortion

the same amount of abortions will take place…but there will be more deaths

MistressoftheDarkSide · 24/06/2022 18:52

It’s amazing, isn’t it, how vocal and punitive people get when women try to preserve their rights and their health and their dignity and privacy, and especially so, shock horror, when they want an active sex life comparable with a man’s….

Sex outside of marriage and relationships has been happening since humans existed, and women have been punished for it time and time again.

Science has given us safe options to redress the balance. How many abortions might be avoided by letting a woman make the choice to be sterilised to avoid unwanted pregnancy…… ah yes, but women are such fickle creatures, might change their mind…..

There are so many issues here to unpick, but in the eyes of the pro-life brigade all the answers seem to be “womens fault, punish women” above all else!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 24/06/2022 18:52

I think it would be best if no one engaged with Bride and Prejudice and other pro birthers gloating over the deaths of women

In fairness I didn't see any gloating as such - just a different view on this subject, which I respect

What I don't respect is any expectation that such views should be used to overturn the existing rights of others, especially when someone's said they have no wish to read alternative opinions

ThickCutSteakChips · 24/06/2022 18:52

People always try and use extreme instances to argue for abortion. Well what's your excuse for the other 99%?

Well firstly, they are not 'extreme' instances, it happens all the time, women are raped all the time.

Secondly, as disappointing as it may seem to you, women are not simply incubators who exists to carry life at all costs, even at the cost of their own life. They are human beings

You are a forced birther, you want to force women to go through medical procedures that they have not consented to

dreamingbohemian · 24/06/2022 18:52

BusterSword · 24/06/2022 18:46

@CountDuckula100
Yes, there are special cases such ectopic pregnancy, or pregnancy resulting from rape: but such difficult cases are statistically negligible.

Ignoring the rest of your misogynistic rambling for a second, do you actually think it should be illegal to remove an ectopic pregnancy?

Several of the abortion bans that have been introduced recently DID outlaw abortion even in the case of ectopic pregnancies.

The Ohio one said doctors should 'reimplant' the fetus, which is not medically possible.

EmmaH2022 · 24/06/2022 18:52

Emergency stashes of antibiotics.

maybe there'll be a bigger rejection of sex and relationships.

Anothernamechangeplease · 24/06/2022 18:53

@Brideandprejudice , you say that you're overjoyed about the "lives that will be saved" but have you given much thought as to how shit many of those lives will actually be? Born to a mother who didn't want to go through with the pregnancy and who might be ill equipped to care for the child properly. You're just creating more misery and suffering further down the line.

Fucking hell.

There will also arguably be a lot more unsafe births if teenagers pregnant through incest/rape
cant approach a hospital. Or through pregnancy complications. There isn’t a scenario where limited access to abortions means fewer lives lost.

This sad and worrying.

I actually feel sick from this.

Oh don't get me started on how hard it is to get sterilised...may have improved since I tried though.

dottyshihtzu · 24/06/2022 18:55

Abortion is the direct and brutal killing of a defenseless innocent and the fewer of such instances there are, the better - clearly.

What a shame Americans aren't as passionate when it comes to doing something about guns. Your kids aren't safe at school, ffs. What about the brutal killings of those defenceless innocents?

Is it because doing something about guns will make the menz angry, and we can't be upsetting the menz or interfering with their 'rights' in any way?

America executes prisoners but bangs on about all life being precious.

The forced birthers are full of fucking shit. This isn't about being pro life, they're just pathetic little misogynists who are angry that women have the nerve to have and enjoy sex, and they want to punish women for it.

EverydayIsPJday · 24/06/2022 18:56

@CountDuckula100 your post is absolutely shocking tbh. You actually feel like that? (As opposed to trying to winding the shit out of people for kicks) Fucking hell is all I can say.

Likeli · 24/06/2022 18:56

Won’t this backfire for them and make more people vote Democrat in the next election, turning more states blue?

LovelyYellowLabrador · 24/06/2022 18:57

This is utterly shocking ! What the hell !!

oh completely, theres that 11 year old in brazil thats been refused an abortion, some on here would absolutely cheer thats court’s decision

how much damage is that birth going to do…horrifying

Pumperthepumper · 24/06/2022 18:58

Horrible 😢

FabFitFifties · 24/06/2022 18:59

Horrific, this is a very worrying time for women. Men are clawing back the power and control they aways had. I'm so glad I have a son.

It's funny that people have to result to name-calling when someone opposes them.

Thebeastofsleep · 24/06/2022 19:00

It's just awful.

I weep at the number of lost.lives from this decision.

mbosnz · 24/06/2022 19:01

My mother was desperate to abort me. As a result, I am strongly pro-choice.

My mother shouldn't have been sacrificed on the alter of her doctor's religious beliefs.

I wouldn't have known if I'd been aborted.

I strongly believe a baby has a RIGHT to be born to a loving family that wants it, that prioritises its wellbeing, that can provide for it, physically, emotionally, and materially.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 24/06/2022 19:02

I tried, for very personal, complicated and system related issues, to get sterilised at about 28 - had been advised my life would be very difficult if I had a second baby - so my logic was fine, we can avoid that, please sterilise me - nope. Not allowed. Too young. Might change my mind, despite it being all over my records why I would not want another baby.

Guess what - fell pregnant. Asked for a termination. Fine. But I had to pay nearly 500 for it. Still through the NHS. Definitely punitive measures in my case.

Hope things have changed since then, but I’m not holding my breath.

Any erosion of abortion laws, anywhere, is such a retrograde step, and nothing to do with saving babies…..
