To be totally gutted for American women?

Anothernamechangeplease · 24/06/2022 15:19

The US Supreme Court has reversed the Roe v Wade ruling. Millions of American women have lost their right to make decisions about what happens to their own bodies. Sad

I have never had an abortion and personally, I'm not sure if I ever could, but I have always been passionately of the view that individual women should be able to make that choice for themselves. It's awful that this right has been removed for so many.

@CountDuckula100 i wrote about people like you a few pages ago! Pro-punishment, rather than pro-life!

Yep. Nailed it.

Someone could equally say if you refuse a foetus the right to life you are a disgusting person. What are you going to gain by personal attacks, it certainly won’t win anyone over to your viewpoint.

Exactly why I'm not engaging. How can you argue about human rights with people who want abortion up to 9 months as many do on here.

Kidsaretryingtodestroyme · 24/06/2022 18:43

‘It will take a long, long time - the more killing a society permits, the harder it is to stop - but I expect that history will look back on today as a great day.

Salut!’

Fuck you. I hope you end up in the worst position come Gilead you prick.

Me! I do! For any woman, at any time, for any reason.

Rubygloomy · 24/06/2022 18:44

I just told DH about this and my 17 year old son said "So it's back to dark alley ways and coat hangers for millions of women?! , how fantastic"

How can a 17 year old be more intelligent than the people running America?

cottagegardenflower · 24/06/2022 18:44

People always try and use extreme instances to argue for abortion. Well what's your excuse for the other 99%?

@Brideandprejudice Where is your evidence for this statement? Surely a woman's wish not to have a child at a time in her life it may be difficult, is reason enough? We done need extreme instances as you suggest

RevoltingHumanHead · 24/06/2022 18:44

I'm not going to get myself banned just to please some people on here who are trying to get me to do so.

You really have nothing to say beyond ' I'm overjoyed'. You're like an automaton repeating the same words over and over. Ask them to preload you with some new phrases at least.

Ifitistobesaid · 24/06/2022 18:45

Another thing that occurred to me. I suffer from recurrent miscarriages. I wouldn’t be surprised if women with my condition are accused of manslaughter for even trying to conceive.

RoseslnTheHospital · 24/06/2022 18:45

@Brideandprejudice no one has argued that here, you're deflecting. Banning abortion doesn't reduce the number that happen, it just means that more women and girls will die and suffer as a result. How can you think that acceptable?

Brideandprejudice · 24/06/2022 18:46

Me! I do! For any woman, at any time, for any reason

I'm being called sick and disgusting but you would have no problem killing a 9 month old baby? I have no response to that because I find it far too chilling.

BusterSword · 24/06/2022 18:46

@CountDuckula100
Yes, there are special cases such ectopic pregnancy, or pregnancy resulting from rape: but such difficult cases are statistically negligible.

Ignoring the rest of your misogynistic rambling for a second, do you actually think it should be illegal to remove an ectopic pregnancy?

Illegallyblonder · 24/06/2022 18:46

This is just fucking awful

Riverlee · 24/06/2022 18:47

Haven’t read the whole thread, but when i heard what had happened, I felt like the world was going backwards.

The land of the free.

If you are a man.

If you are a wealthy white man...

forced birth in a country that doesn't even offer maternity leave. so much to cheer for.

Sums up the US.

My eldest used to say that he would like to live in the US, then he grew up.

Awful country, particularly for women.

Yet here you are, responding. I think it’s more chilling you’re only interested in life up to the moment of birth.

Riverlee · 24/06/2022 18:48

And yet they won’t toughen up on gun control. How is your right to have a gun, but not control over your body?!

Also, it’s not a nine month old baby.

voldr · 24/06/2022 18:49

I regret that there are times when some dirtbag man will abandon a pregnant girlfriend and leave her feeling like she has no other options. But all this just goes to show the logic of previous generations, who would reserve sex to be enjoyed only within the bounds of marriage, as opposed to with some drunk you have just met in a badly lit nightclub, while steaming yourself.

As yeah the good old days when no one ever had sex outside marriage ever. Marriage of course only being for heterosexual couples. And marital rape was legal, but that was fine because there were no dirtbag husbands. Right?

I believe that life begins at conception.

I don't need an "excuse". I believe that the fact of a woman not wishing to go through with a pregnancy is reason enough to justify the decision to abort. Giving birth to an unwanted baby is not in the best interests of the mother or the (potential) child.

For the overwhelming majority of women, it is not a decision taken lightly at all. Personally, I have never been in that position but I think I would really struggle with it. Regardless, I believe in the basic principle of bodily autonomy and cannot for the life of me understand how anyone could consider it humane or ethical to force a woman to go through pregnancy and childbirth against her will. It's barbaric.

So being born is what makes it a baby?

Supersee · 24/06/2022 18:50

Pro life. Until birth.

I wept at the women celebrating this on the news.

Pumperthepumper · 24/06/2022 18:50

Brideandprejudice · 24/06/2022 18:50

No; it’s not nine months old when it’s born. Look at you engaging now!

EmmaH2022 · 24/06/2022 18:51

Oh well
as long as they leave the guns alone, there's a relatively easy suicide option as well as the knitting needle option.

yes I am serious. No, I am not apologising. This is a very serious matter which, in the absence of legal abortion, I would seriously consider both of those options.

as I don't have a gun it will be have to be something else. I literally had nightmares about this in my 20s. I have used two forms of contraception in relationships. I don't have relationships now so it's not on my worry list.

but what of the future for others? Are we going back to Vera Drake?
