To be totally gutted for American women?

Anothernamechangeplease · 24/06/2022 15:19

The US Supreme Court has reversed the Roe v Wade ruling. Millions of American women have lost their right to make decisions about what happens to their own bodies. Sad

I have never had an abortion and personally, I'm not sure if I ever could, but I have always been passionately of the view that individual women should be able to make that choice for themselves. It's awful that this right has been removed for so many.

Looking at all the news stories, I think what has shocked me most is how many women I can see enthusiastically cheering for their oppression.

The religious right would be nothing without their obedient womenfolk clapping and cheering the removal of their own rights. They've all been radicalised by their churches since infancy.

Ifitistobesaid · 24/06/2022 18:31

I can’t believe this is actually happening. I had such a visceral reaction to this news, my whole body felt chills.

A sad day.

camperjam · 24/06/2022 18:33

If you don't agree with abortion that is absolutely fine. Just don't fucking have one.

Delectable · 24/06/2022 18:35

What puzzles me most is how they're so offended at the thought of providing temporary help to the unemployed, assistance to the poor, single income households and disabled, provide decent maternity leave and pay, subsidised child care, affordable healthcare, protect humans from guns etc.

D0lphine · 24/06/2022 18:35

Abuse of human rights. If I lived there I'd never have PIV sex ever again- too risky

DingleyDel · 24/06/2022 18:35

This is devastating.

@jott of course a fetus is human. Pro choice but that's just damn stupid to say otherwise. It's not a legal person. It's definitely human.

voldr · 24/06/2022 18:36

I just saw a man in the news saying he won't stop fighting until all the family planning clinics in America are permanently shut. Clinics that as well as (sometimes) providing abortions also provide things like contraception, STD treatment, cancer screening and pre-natal care. And these scum call themselves pro-life.

dreamingbohemian · 24/06/2022 18:37

If you are 'overjoyed' that a 13 year old can be raped by her father and forced to give birth to her own half-sibling, then you're a sick fucking bastard. Shame on you.

ThickCutSteakChips · 24/06/2022 18:37

Someone could equally say if you refuse a foetus the right to life you are a disgusting person.

Yeah, fuck the women who die as a result of this, who gives a shit about them? As long as the foetus survives at all costs. Oh, until its born and becomes and actual person of course, then it can get to fuck and its on its own.

This seemed to just happen so quickly... mental. This is a day in history for sure, America is truly insane.

RoseslnTheHospital · 24/06/2022 18:37

@CountDuckula100 yeah... no, thanks.

RevoltingHumanHead · 24/06/2022 18:39

CountDuckula, didn't read your rant past 'feckless' but I'm not sure why you're cheering. The rate of abortions will not decrease.

Pumperthepumper · 24/06/2022 18:40

@CountDuckula100 i wrote about people like you a few pages ago! Pro-punishment, rather than pro-life!

If the right to life is soooo important why do many of the states that have banned abortion still have the death penalty and frequently trott out the "right to bear arms" bollox. Either all life is sacred or it's not.

ThickCutSteakChips · 24/06/2022 18:40

But all this just goes to show the logic of previous generations, who would reserve sex to be enjoyed only within the bounds of marriage

Nice try, but you overegged the pudding with this line.

SweatyChamoisPad · 24/06/2022 18:41

@CountDuckula100 “feckless women”?! Are you serious?! What about the men? What about the rapists? What about the abusive husbands? What about the sex offenders? Please tell me you’re trolling.

RosaGallica · 24/06/2022 18:41

Ultimately, is it not the basis of civilisation (and adulthood) that people should take responsibility for the consequences of their own actions? And if you don't want to risk the consequence, don't do the action?

It is not women’s own actions that you are asking them to take responsibility for. It is men’s actions too, in the context of a male dominant society that seeks to impose behaviours and lifestyles convenient for men on to women.

If more men involved in this debate swore off sex on the basis that ‘every sperm is sacred’, I would be more prepared to listen. But men want everything their own way.

Bordesleyhills · 24/06/2022 18:41

Came close for medical reasons but I’m free choice for women. It shouldn’t be used as conception but in some cases it is totally justified .

RevoltingHumanHead · 24/06/2022 18:41

forced birth in a country that doesn't even offer maternity leave. so much to cheer for.

cottagegardenflower · 24/06/2022 18:41

So a rapist may have rights over the child conceived during his crime? The rapist would have more rights than his victim. Shocked and disgusted. Welcome to Gilead.

Brideandprejudice · 24/06/2022 18:41

Anothernamechangeplease · 24/06/2022 18:06

@Brideandprejudice , I really struggle to understand why anyone would be overjoyed at this decision.

Are you overjoyed about the women who may die in childbirth? About the women who will be forced into potentially dangerous illegal abortions? About the women who will kill themselves rather than go through with an unwanted pregnancy? Or about the children who may be neglected, abused or abandoned because their mothers were not in a position to take care of them properly?

What on earth is there to celebrate here?

I am overjoyed because I am anti-abortion.

I believe that life begins at conception.

I'm not going to get myself banned just to please some people on here who are trying to get me to do so.

People always try and use extreme instances to argue for abortion. Well what's your excuse for the other 99%?

ThickCutSteakChips · 24/06/2022 18:42

"allow choice" - that's exactly what the supreme court is doing. Not everyone wants their taxes funding the killing of infants. The Court decision allows States to decide for themselves how they want to approach abortion, rather than take away choice and impose it from above.

A 10 week old foetus is not an 'infant'.

Pumperthepumper · 24/06/2022 18:42

Sorry @CountDuckula100 posted too soon - of course, the massive flaw is that the number of abortions won’t decrease. In fact, the number of deaths will massively increase - because safe abortions will no longer be available. So bad news all round, I’m afraid.
