To be totally gutted for American women?

Anothernamechangeplease · 24/06/2022 15:19

The US Supreme Court has reversed the Roe v Wade ruling. Millions of American women have lost their right to make decisions about what happens to their own bodies. Sad

I have never had an abortion and personally, I'm not sure if I ever could, but I have always been passionately of the view that individual women should be able to make that choice for themselves. It's awful that this right has been removed for so many.

America is falling apart at the seams. I don't think it will be a country in 20 years time. It will have broken up into 2 or more separate countries.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 24/06/2022 17:47

Aren't you pro choice? Surely undergoing an illegal abortion is a choice?

How is that a choice? It's the absolute coercion what will drive women to unsafe abortion providers.

Thelnebriati · 24/06/2022 17:47

I've just seen an interview with a young women celebrating outside the White House and hoping for a total ban.
It worries me that people can support the state having the right to sentence women to death for the crime of an unlucky pregnancy.

torquewench · 24/06/2022 17:47

So sad for American women. Inonly learned recently there's not even any statutory mat leave. How backwards.

So itll be asier to buy a gun than get a safe abortion. Shocking. Also not very pro life when there's only one purpose for a gun.

2022NutellaPancake · 24/06/2022 17:47

I’m horrified by the ruling !

To put it simply, I'm flabbergasted, I can't figure out how banning abortion is OK but banning guns isn't...

Abortions haven't been banned. Guns should be.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 24/06/2022 17:48

The OP of this thread asked people who voted YABU to voice their opinions

you have voiced your opinion

janis is just suggesting that people don’t react to you

brookstar · 24/06/2022 17:49

If you are overjoyed by a decision that will allow states to refuse women bodily autonomy, you're a disgusting person

This is pretty much how I feel.
How you can be overjoyed at the erasure of womens rights is beyond me.

Because banning guns will make loads of men very very sad.

Abortion only affects women, and who gives a fuck about them?

You’re such a coward.

It's a sad day. 😔
Shocking we're here in 2022.

So what exactly are you happy about?

Brideandprejudice · 24/06/2022 17:29

Perhaps people should actually bother to read what this means instead of assuming that abortions have been banned in America.

I for one am overjoyed.

You are "overjoyed" that women will die from ectopic pregnancies?
You are "overjoyed" that women/girls will be forced to keep their rapist's baby?
You are "overjoyed" that babies will be born into abusive households?
You are "overjoyed" that babies will be born to addicts?

If those things make you "overjoyed" you need to have a serious think about the kind of person you are.

From Bill Weir on Twitter, about the states where abortion is now immediately illegal or will be within the next 30 days:

Abortion banned without exception for health of the mother:
Arkansas, Idaho, Mississippi, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota

Without exceptions for rape:
Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas

Without exceptions for incest:
Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas

These people don't care if you will die giving birth, they don't care if you're 13 and raped by your father. Fucking fascists.

This is just awful.

This will happen here won’t it? God I feel sick.

No. It will not. No politician here (with the the exception of one rather odd now retired Lib Dem) has ever shown any real interest in curbing abortion like this, or banning contraception. We just don't have the massive God bothering element here in the UK. Stop scaremongering.

ThickCutSteakChips · 24/06/2022 17:51

It's so disgusting and depressing. Women's rights really are on a knife edge, and always have been I guess. We should never take it for granted and never underestimate how much we are hated.

MumBlah · 24/06/2022 17:51

YANBU it is a crying shame. All these pro-birthers don't care about mothers or babies once they baby is born; they don't care about free healthcare or mother's rights or maternity leave. My heart breaks for these women and the babies that will be born into poverty / to mothers who didn't want them 💔

spanishsummers · 24/06/2022 17:52

Awful.

Are you overjoyed that, in some states, women will be forced to give birth to babies that are the result of rape and incest?

mumsneedwine · 24/06/2022 17:52

I'm assuming States will now pay for the medical care of every woman - since they have no choice but to have the baby. I expect not. Or that they'll contribute to the expenses of a child, or that they'll force the man to pay.
I think every woman in America should refuse to have sex with any man until this is over turned. Can't risk getting pregnant and so no sex.

ThickCutSteakChips · 24/06/2022 17:53

Brideandprejudice · 24/06/2022 17:51

Come on then, expand on what you mean. What's so great about all this, what are you overjoyed at?

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 24/06/2022 17:53

So, if this takes away a woman's right to agency over her own body... does it give MEN actual rights over a woman's body now? Or will that be next on the list?

This just heartbreaking and terrifying.

RevoltingHumanHead · 24/06/2022 17:53

The amount of women and girls who are going to bleed to death after botched backstreet abortions.
