To be totally gutted for American women?

Anothernamechangeplease · 24/06/2022 15:19

The US Supreme Court has reversed the Roe v Wade ruling. Millions of American women have lost their right to make decisions about what happens to their own bodies. Sad

I have never had an abortion and personally, I'm not sure if I ever could, but I have always been passionately of the view that individual women should be able to make that choice for themselves. It's awful that this right has been removed for so many.

Ah sorry @Brideandprejudice - you answered. Are you still overjoyed even though millions of women will now be killed during childbirth or through illegal abortions? Do those lives not matter so much?

UndertheCedartree · 24/06/2022 17:38

Awful 😔

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 24/06/2022 17:38

Wait answer the second question. You're happy womens lives will be lost by this decision?

JanisMoplin · 24/06/2022 17:39

My niece is a brown woman living in Texas. If she gets pregnant she has decided to fly back to our home country of India where she can get an abortion up to 20 weeks and fantastic private health care.

That sounds ridiculous, doesnt it? But it is true.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 24/06/2022 17:39

Amnesty USA “abortion is a human right for everyone, everywhere”

nope - abortion is a human right for women you absolute bloody clowns!!!

What can be done? I'm so angry for all women in the world right now. I hope.other countries dont follow.

I served along side American forces in Afghanistan and womens rights were a major consideration because we known how fucking important they are for a civilised country.

Yet the USA really isnt that different from the Taliban. It could be argued that Utah isnt that different to Afghanistan for women and girls right now and many other states are going that way

dottyshihtzu · 24/06/2022 17:40

the fact that anyone had a constitutional right to kill another human is insanity.

But anyone can walk right into a school and massacre children, and it's ''don't even think about taking away muh right to guns!!!''.

''ALL life is precious''. ''Murder bad''. Yet many of the states that have already made abortion illegal or will be doing so very soon because 'all life is precious' have the death penalty...

Hypocrites. Fucking misogynist hypocrites.

DamnUserName21 · 24/06/2022 17:40

I am overjoyed that millions of lives will be saved.

Will you be overjoyed when women's mortality along with woman and child poverty increase? What about forced adoptions and I say forced because there won't be any choice for the woman who might not want to keep the child of her rapist?!

HRTQueen · 24/06/2022 17:41

It’s absolutely disgusting that women are having rights over their own body taken away

FunnyTalks · 24/06/2022 17:42

Amnesty can fuck the fuck right off. Along with the rest of the privileged idiots giving our rights away whilst the Conservative right laughs.

If I wasn't a woman my rapist wouldn't have raped me & been able to impregnate me.

Forever grateful for my abortion.

blahblahblahspoons · 24/06/2022 17:42

Misogyny is everywhere and it's beginning to look like we should have perhaps availed ourselves of the brief window of freedom to all have abortions and not bring more children into this shitshow of a world. I feel such utter despair for my children.

Obama can fuck off. He COULD have enshrined women's rights to abortion in law when he was in office, like he said he would, but he traded women's rights away to get other things he wanted. Both Obama and Bill Clinton KNEW that relying on case law for this was very dangerous and would eventually get overturned. They KNEW and they did fuck all when they could have stopped it.

I don't see how it can possibly be argued that people that replace the word 'woman' with 'womb havers' or 'bleeders' is possibly not motivated by the same woman hatred that motivates those working against abortion, contraception or for the commodification of babies.

It's all misogyny. It's all seeing women as less than human. It's the same thing. There's a lot of it in the police in this country so I do think we absolutely could go the way of America. Wayne Couzens was enabled by the police not doing what they should have done and prosecuting him for flashing. Misogyny and violence against women is allowed largely unchecked until it gets to murder and even then there's a lot of 'thoughts and prayers' but it's like gun violence in the USA - they say things will change but they never do. They said things would change after Sarah Everard died, but still we seen men threatening and abusing women largely unchecked.

I actually think that it's really weird that no-one has noticed that the absolute woman hatred coming from so called 'TRAs' - like the baying mob of male aggression against women in Bristol, largely ignored by the police - isn't really doing much to advance the needs and rights of normal transpeople at all in any way anymore. There are now quite a few brave transwomen who are putting their head above the parapet and saying just that - they of course receive death threats for doing so like the women fighting to retain sex-based rights.

The left aren't going to save us, they've nailed their misogynistic colours to the mast. Any party not bothering to enshrine the right to abortion in law when they had Democratic Presidents in power doesn't care about women. Relying on left wing men to do the right thing has failed time and again. They say the right things but don't do anything. They know their wives and their daughters can be bought an abortion if needed. They don't care about poor women, normal women. It's utterly depressing.

The only way back is to organise as a sex-class and vote as a sex-class until our rights are secure. But so many are taken in by left wing lies, like the ones Obama and Bill Clinton made about enshrining the right to abortion, that I can't see it happening.

A fetus isn’t a human ? Then wtf is it ?

At the stage when most abortions are carried out (hint: it's pre-10wks) it is not a human, it is a collection of cells and membranes. Its not even considered a fetus until 9wks, prior to that it's just an embryo. It needs a womb and a minimum of six months of development and growth to become a human. It is dependent on the body of another for this and the owner of that body is a human and should therefore have autonomy over what happens to their body, including occupancy.

Very depressing news
it was coming but I felt absolutely gutted when the news came through

JanisMoplin · 24/06/2022 17:43

I think it would be best if no one engaged with Bride and Prejudice and other pro birthers gloating over the deaths of women.

Male people should have no rights around abortion at all. Women. It's women. Women's bodies, women's oppression, women's risks, women's rapes, women's pregnancies, women's deaths, you absolute arses.

Pumperthepumper · 24/06/2022 17:44

I truly believe that prolifers are actually not so much in favour of ‘life’ but ‘punishment’. So when they hear ‘abortion’ they picture a young, sexually carefree woman using abortion instead of contraception. They don’t picture a scared thirteen year old carrying a baby conceived through incest or a wife forced to stay through endless pregnancies or contraceptive failures. It’s hate, and nothing more. The deserving and the undeserving.

Brideandprejudice · 24/06/2022 17:41

Aren't you pro choice? Surely undergoing an illegal abortion is a choice?

Seeking an illegal abortion is not a choice....it's a decision made from lack of choice.

RoseslnTheHospital · 24/06/2022 17:45

"Aren't you pro choice? Surely undergoing an illegal abortion is a choice?"

Are you kidding? Please tell me you can tell how idiotic that comment is. It's not a choice, when your preferred option of a safe healthcare procedure has been removed from you due to other peoples (religious or otherwise) beliefs. You'll no doubt say that they could "choose" to continue with the pregnancy, but that's not their choice either.

The contempt for women and girls is just staggering.

JinglingHellsBells · 24/06/2022 17:45

It's awful but it's a state by state decision (not a blanket ban) so women will be able (sometimes) to travel to another state if they have the means. There are also charities who are saying they will given financial support to women who need to travel.

The OP of this thread asked people who voted YABU to voice their opinions. If you want to control the narrative then you might want to consider making your own thread.

OnLockdown · 24/06/2022 17:45

There is a very interesting documentary on HBO called The Janes. It's about a group of women who facilitated illegal abortions for desperate women before Roe v Wade. It's well worth a watch in light of this terrible decision.

Brideandprejudice · 24/06/2022 17:41

It’s a choice, of course. What’s your point?

Poppins2016 · 24/06/2022 17:46

To put it simply, I'm flabbergasted, I can't figure out how banning abortion is OK but banning guns isn't...

blahblahblahspoons · 24/06/2022 17:46

It's not about life at all of course - it's only about controlling women.

If they cared about life they'd care about children in the US being killed en masse every time a pissed off 18 year old buys an automatic rifle.
