I was just wondering why we're not allowed to post about this case-the deletion message mentioned it was ongoing so wouldnt be fair to the family

Charlie gards case was on going and there was numerous threads about it

Anyway if this stands maybe we can discuss

@Puzzledandpissedoff it could be 5pm on the day the judgement is issued. I've cared for children with about the same timeframe. Lots of hurt and anger over court cases, then the hospital 'won' (no one wins in these cases) and schedules removal of life support that day just later on as it gives the family time to gather people to be with the child.

I expect they'll try the European court of human rights to give them a bit more time though

Puzzledandpissedoff · 14/07/2022 22:23

Thank you, HuffleWoof, and I especially agree that nobody wins here - it's just that I lack any experience in these matter so wondered how it works

another article local to me i live not far from hollie

she stating its not dignified to turn his machine off she would rather god decide-dosnt she realise she might not be there when it happens

I have read up on the case, it's crazy that it has gotten this far.

The published photos of that poor boy are terrible, the staff who are looking after him must find it very difficult, I'd imagine Hollie constantly looking for hope when there is none is emotionally tiring on staff.

My nosey head got the better of me earlier re the post on Hollie's name change.
I can see why she changed it. 😳

You could argue, from a theological POV, that God did decide...3 months ago.

iloveeverykindofcat · 15/07/2022 06:01

@vivariumvivariumsvivaria That's exactly what my friend (who works on a neuropsych ward) said. She's following this with horrified fascination, and talking about all the kids who couldn't access that bed whilst it continues to support Archie's body. We had a long conversation about this - she said the laws need to be changed to stop this kind of travesty due to the shortage of ICU beds, but I said extreme cases make bad laws. 99.9% of parents wouldn't still be doing this, and there does have to be recourse to the courts before life support can be turned off without familial consent. This case is black and white, but other cases haven't been.

Very much agree with you, iloveeverykindofcat; as you rightly say these cases are thankfully very rare, and while bed shortage is certainly an issue, I'm not sure it's sensible to hang overall policy on things like this

Many already feel too much is driven by targets rather than clinical need, and if bed availability became the main driver it's not hard to foresee accusations that "certainly dead" had crept into "not much chance" or even "not worth saving"

HuffleWoof · 15/07/2022 11:50

The judge has stated he 'cannot declare lawful continuation of present treatment which is intrusive, burdensome, inimical to his welfare and compromises his dignity'

SunflowerGardens · 15/07/2022 11:55

Awk it's very sad even though it's the right thing for him. I do feel for the family.

NoMichaelNo · 15/07/2022 11:57

Common sense after all, isn't Archie's brain slipping down into his spine?

Let him go with dignity.

Just saw this, and I agree. He needs some dignity now.

nolongersurprised · 15/07/2022 12:10

The judgement is kind, and fair, I thought.

Toddlerteaplease · 15/07/2022 12:11

Thank goodness. May he now rest in peace.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 15/07/2022 12:24

Kind judgement. Expected but can't make it easier. Can they appeal or is this the final say?

Hopefully they can now comes to terms with it in the right way.

EmeraldShamrock1 · 15/07/2022 12:27

You're right, especially with the controversial statements around people with special needs at the beginning of covid.

What a harrowing case.

From the off claiming that an online challenge went wrongful, maybe it did, though in the moments leading up to him trying this out it didn't make sense.

We really need more resources for children's state of minds, Internet safety courses, the good bad and the very ugly.

His beautiful face and the memories they shared throughout his life will stay with his family when he is laid to rest.

Toddlerteaplease · 15/07/2022 12:30

Interesting that the report describes mums relationship with the nurses as brilliant. I can imagine it's exactly the opposite. Not that the nurses will let on.

LanieM87 · 15/07/2022 12:33

I think his mum is probably lovely and respectful in the hospital, i feel it's her family and "army" that have whipped her up into a frenzy. That and the fact she hasn't been home since it happened, there's a lot to deal with and I just don't think she wants to do that, at hospital she has a purpose and can be with him, even if he's not really there at all.

Perplexed0522 · 15/07/2022 12:35

The judgement makes for a very sad read.

EmeraldShamrock1 · 15/07/2022 12:41

The judgement was a hard read. 😪

TheCrowening · 15/07/2022 12:49

That was tough to read, I’ve shed a tear, but it’s the right decision.

rainbowmilk · 15/07/2022 13:08

Reading the judgment has just made me even angrier than I already was at the lengths medical staff are having to go to to treat a body as if it were still alive. It's barbaric and a grotesque waste of resources.

krazykatzlady · 15/07/2022 13:14

I've also shed a tear.
Poor child.
Those poor nurses.

PeloAddict · 15/07/2022 13:17

They're appealing
