Fina bars transgender swimmers from women's elite events if they went through male puberty www.bbc.co.uk/sport/swimming/61853450

I think we can express ourselves without using derogatory language towards an oppressed group.

Still don’t understand why this is so offensive to people here!

They are not an oppressed group.

Conflictedunicorn · 23/06/2022 21:51

I said males, intersectional feminists believe TWAW and therefore belong in feminism.

StolenCookie · 23/06/2022 21:52

Peregrina · 23/06/2022 21:47

You objected to a certain subsection of biological men being called 'laddy' or their knobs being referred to.

Laddy for men is a bit patronising but it is not transphobic. Knob we have discussed already, a common slang word for a penis.

But you don't see the problem with this invented word cis?

But this is all going away from the purpose of the thread. A sporting body has finally begun to use some sense, which most of us applaud. Males who have gone through puberty do not belong in women's sport.

Laddy for a man is patronising.

Laddy in reference to a trans woman is transphobic.

I’m genuinely so confused by this response I’ve googled it.

intersectional feminism:

a movement recognizing that barriers to gender equality vary according to other aspects of a woman's identity, including age, race, ethnicity, class, and religion, and striving to address a diverse spectrum of women's issues.

This is the definition I thought was true. But if someone on Mumsnet tells me it actually means ‘covert handmaiden who believes the rights of men trump women’ then… well I shall completely ignore it for the utter nonsense that it is 😂

You're a self-proclaimed intersectional feminist who has spent all evening scolding me for not being "respectful" to a naked erect knob causing distress to women in a women's changing room.

FOJN · 23/06/2022 21:55

Intersectional feminism means believing the rights of men trump women?

Well it certainly how you seem to be presenting the intersectional feminist perspective.

Looking on the bright side...Now that Thomas no longer has a licence to cheat to train to meet the demands of elite competition Lia will be able to focus on a transition which goes beyond simply suppressing Lia's testosterone level to twice the upper limit for women.

FemmeNatal · 23/06/2022 21:57

StolenCookie · 23/06/2022 20:35

I did. I don’t think racist OR transphobic language is okay.

Why should anyone give a damn what you think, or moderate their behaviour because of it?

You do not want women to use accurate language to describe a male abusing women. You seem like someone who’d tell a rapist to refer to her attacker as “she” and call them transphobic if they didn’t. Don’t you dare try to police my tone.

Peregrina · 23/06/2022 21:57

Laddy in reference to a trans woman is transphobic.

It may be in your book, but it isn't in mine. A Transwoman is not a woman. Even if he has surgery and takes hormones to suppress his testosterone, he is still not a woman. Most of them don't have surgery.

Conflictedunicorn · 23/06/2022 21:58

To be fair, I call Lia detransitioning as soon as Lia graduates college. I think Lia was about to lose scholarship due to the abysmal performance in the men’s races, and this was a way to keep the scholarship, abuse women and become a member of a ‘vulnerable and oppressed’ group. I see Emily Bridges going the sane way

StolenCookie · 23/06/2022 21:58

I haven’t intended to scold, just expressing a view. If anyone has been scolded I think we can safely say it is me! I’ve been called a penis up thread! 😂 I can be a feminist and also stand up for the rights of trans people. And no one has been forced to reply to me! If you wanted to spend your evenings doing something else you really should have!

CaliforniaDrumming · 23/06/2022 22:01

"Cis women". I come on MN to get away from that nonsense. It is literally the only place where most posters are not drinking the " Transwomen are women" Kool-Aid.

Absolutely no one needs to give a damn what I think. We’re all just on the internet to discuss things aren’t we? As much as I’ve disliked the tone here, there’s nothing I can realistically do to change any of your behaviour. Other than put together excellent arguments and hit ‘post’!

Conflictedunicorn · 23/06/2022 22:05

Well when you’ve put together an excellent argument do press post. They do say if at first you don’t succeed…..

I'm actually going to put the sarcasm aside for a moment.

You came on here telling us we needed you to police our language because you knew better. And yet you didn't know that many women consider "cis" to be offensive, or what I was referring to when I mentioned Thomas' knob in the women's changing room. You also appear to think that "knob" is equivalent to racist or sexist slurs.

Perhaps it is not we who need further educating.

CaliforniaDrumming · 23/06/2022 22:06

Netmums might suit you. There are a lot of " Be Kind" 'cis' women there.

If believing that transwomen are transwomen is transphobic, I am happy to be so.

FemmeNatal · 23/06/2022 22:07

StolenCookie · 23/06/2022 21:52

Laddy for a man is patronising.

Laddy in reference to a trans woman is transphobic.

Are you claiming here that a trans woman is a woman? It certainly reads that way.

What definition of “woman are you using”?

StolenCookie · 23/06/2022 22:08

Peregrina · 23/06/2022 21:57

And I think this is the crux of the whole of the last few mad pages. I consider certain language to be transphobic, the rest of you don’t. I don’t see why there needed to be such fury over this but I guess being on the internet does bring out the rage! I wonder what any of you would have done if you’d met someone like me in the pub 😂

Conflictedunicorn · 23/06/2022 22:09

Me too @CaliforniaDrumming I’ve been called a TERF and transphobe so often it holds no meaning now. When weather, biology, and trees are transphobic, and transphobe means acknowledging reality, yeah I’m a transphobe.

FemmeNatal · 23/06/2022 22:09

Why don’t you give that a try then, rather than just telling people that they are transphobic?

Why not start by clarifying what you mean by “woman”? Your posts suggest you don’t have a bloody clue what the word means.

Or will you just dodge the question?

ReneBumsWombats · 23/06/2022 22:10

StolenCookie · 23/06/2022 22:04

And I’ve not realised till just this very evening how anti trans Mumsnet actually is. I’ve had my eyes truly opened!

Except that you're hung up on precisely two comments in a long thread, one of which was merely acknowledging the fact of women being forced to endure a knob in their changing room.

While you're feeling so enlightened, may I suggest you now cast your pearls among TRA Twitter?

Conflictedunicorn · 23/06/2022 22:10

@StolenCookie gor away from you as fast as I could. I don’t engage with misogynistic idiots in real life.

CaliforniaDrumming · 23/06/2022 22:10

See the days when you could get women to shut up by shouting" transphobic" or " terf" are fast fading. We don't care any more. Happy to be called that.

StolenCookie · 23/06/2022 22:04

And I’ve not realised till just this very evening how anti trans Mumsnet actually is. I’ve had my eyes truly opened!

And there it is. You post nothing approaching a decent argument, and then just go for the insults.

Let’s drop the pretence sonny, everyone can see what you are.

I never said I knew better! Just expressing an opinion, same as everyone else. I guess everyone believes what they say to be true and sensible?

And I also never said I don’t need to be educated. I’ve welcomed knowing that a certain subsection of feminists find ‘cis’ offensive. That was new information for me! And as much as people have been completely infuriated by my posts, it’s not really been my intention to offend people. If a woman tells me not to refer to her as ‘cis’ then I shan’t. I take no pleasure in mislabelling anyone!

ReneBumsWombats · 23/06/2022 22:12
