I quite like Chris Packham

Is it just me or is there something about Chris Packham. I've never really taken much notice of him before, but in another life I think I would!

OP posts:
Hornbostel · 17/06/2022 15:10

And? That doesn't mean he's a creep.

JaneJeffer · 17/06/2022 15:13

I always follow the Chris Packham posts to just observe the ableism.
It would be patronising to pretend to like him just because he has Asperger's.

I'm not saying to pretend to like him. People comment on the way he talks and his mannerisms and call him a creep, which is ableism.
The way he talks and his mannerisms are because of his autism.
It's totally okay not to like the guy.

ofwarren · 17/06/2022 15:17

Nobody on here would dare to say that a deaf person on tv had weird mannerisms and spoke funny. Why is it different when it's ASD?

JaneJeffer · 17/06/2022 15:19

I think a lot of people are unaware of his Asperger's @ofwarren

Rabbitmugsarecute · 17/06/2022 15:24

I love him, his passion is just wonderful. Don't agree with his stance on Corvids, pigeons etc but he's spot on most of the time esp about songbirds being shot out of the sky in their millions over the Med. Not sure if that's still a thing or that there are even any left to be shot but for the love of god, for him to take them on was just fabulous.

Adamantspants · 17/06/2022 15:31

The Weely Weely Wild Show....em nope.

greywinds · 17/06/2022 15:33

On the ASD self diagnosis thing - CP has had several stints of significant mh hemp, breakdowns - I'd say it highly unlikely he's simply self-ID'g as ASD. (Fwiw, I cannot fathom what's wrong with identifying as having autism either given the waits for assessment etc.)

SommerTen · 17/06/2022 16:01

He hates cats. Sorry Chris but we'd never be a match.

People should just be honest and say they don't like people with autism as they make them feel uncomfortable.

Trouble is he is arrogant, now is that because of his autism or just because he's, you know, arrogant? I love him but I can see why some people wouldn't.
Saying he is creepy is ridiculous though.

KirstenBlest · 17/06/2022 15:06

No, he was her mother's partner for about 10years. they weren't married so technically not a step-father.

🙄

Onlyforcake · 17/06/2022 16:26

He's fine. Attracts ire the way anyone who makes a point about givinga shit about the natural environment does. Also autistic most people express distate towards those of us non N"T" Usually very blatantly, as on this thread.

Yorkshirebred · 17/06/2022 17:33

He's intelligent, passionate and funny. Also fit as fuck and I'd love to run my fingers through his cute spiky hair Blush

Haha I bet you're a farmer or like to hunt (not that you have your own agenda of course). You sound very impartial though so well done.

Not a farmer, not old enough to have hunted pre - ban but I enjoy drag hunting, yes and I'm generally pro.
However, I don't work for the BBC and present my OPINIONS as fact.
He's too black and white, he won't ever engage in a debate, he just gets emotive and derogatory.
I don't agree with threatening people in their own homes but the dead crow on his gate was in response to the General Licence withdrawal completely fuelled by Packham and his idiot cronies. People were understandably upset that overnight they were no longer allowed to protect their livestock from corvids and seagulls, in the middle of lambing season! That on its own is unforgivable in my eyes.

I don’t live in an area with resident eagles, although in the last few years we do often see migrating sea eagles.

As far as I’m aware numbers of white tailed eagles are now rising, thanks to conservation efforts, including from gamekeepers.

I’m sure there are gamekeepers have helped occasionally with sea eagle reintroductions - however the frequency of stories like the eagle poisoned in Dorset recently demonstrate there are a lot of people in the shooting industry actively harming wildlife. The amount of work and money that must go into a release like that, it’s absolutely disgusting that the animals can mysteriously be poisoned with no true investigation.

Obviously not everyone in the shooting community think it’s appropriate to poison birds of prey and set fire to cars outside people’s homes, but those that do aren’t being punished enough in my opinion.

KirstenBlest · 17/06/2022 18:31

@ofwarren, if you were married then yes. If not married then no.

My ex-partner is not my DC's step-father, but my ex-husband is.

Why do you care so much? Why does him calling her his stepdaughter, as per the dictionary definition, make him a creep?

KirstenBlest · 17/06/2022 19:02

I don't care, I switch him off. I find him creepy because I do.

Calling someone your step-child when you haven't been married to the parent is misleading.

It smacks of nepotism.

FindingMeno · 17/06/2022 19:04

I like him.
He has the balls to stand up for what he believes in.

How can it be misleading when it's the dictionary definition of the word ffs??
Just because you don't understand the definition, doesn't mean he is wrong.

Saucery · 17/06/2022 19:10

Well, haterz gonna hate 🤷‍♀️

KirstenBlest · 17/06/2022 19:15

@ofwarren, my understanding of the dictionary term is absolutely fine.
His use of it is misleading as he is not technically her step-father.

Woody Allen was not married to Mia Farrow but got slated for marrying his ex-partner's daughter.

If you hate farmers and gamekeepers so much, I suggest you boycott their products.
