I thought I would start a thread. It's muggy and I'm tired. I can't wait for the cool Autumn days and darker evenings 🤣

I'm with you OP! I just bought some blackout fabric to block the light from all the windows in my house. We are north facing and I'm still too hot!

How do people in south facing homes cope?!

We sit in the other side of the house! The back of my house, kitchen, faces SSE and it's insufferable in the heat, the garden is too hot too, the sitting room is much cooler, facing more or less North and because it's an old house with thick walls the hall is wonderful, I sometimes take a chair through there and read.

MN has a very romantic view of Autumn. It's not all crisp sunny days and pumpkins. It's dreary and damp and dark.

anxiousatnight · 16/06/2022 21:18

I like the warmer weather now I'm a SAHM and I don't have to work in a stuffy office wearing formal workwear. I also live in Cornwall and there's so much more to do in the nice weather. It can get a bit much when it gets really hot for a prolonged time, but I wouldn't say I hate summer.

Absolutely hate the horrific hayfever I have every single bloody year though. Hate it so much. Sadly it does make me wish hate the summer a bit because it just makes me feel so unwell.

Exactly, but every year mumsnet talks about autumn as though it's a fucking Keats poem.

RampantIvy · 16/06/2022 21:34

😁 @ilovesooty. I like bright, crisp days in autumn and winter. Unfortunately they are as rare as hen's teeth round here.

liveforsummer · 16/06/2022 21:38

@nevergoesaway yes in winter (and indeed til about 2 weeks ago) I'd wear a long sleeve top under the t shirt, a thicker jumper in colder months and a coat. I have varying levels of warmness of coats. Recent one is a waterproof with light padding. Full on winter an ankle length duvet coat. Need to be pretty warm to swap thermal socks and fur lined boots out for trainers and trainer socks too 😆

It’s so true. Autumn and winter mean months of darkness, of short days which curtail the time you spend outdoors, dampness, snow, icy pavements and roads, wet clothes everywhere or sky-high tumble dryer bills, infrastructure that grinds to a halt, miserable commutes in pitch black, worrying about snowfalls preventing you and your family from getting home safely…the list is endless.

i sometimes think some MN just don’t move very far from their sofa for about 6 months of the year.

I've already started planning for September, got a large order of autumnal decorations hopefully arriving next week, pumpkin themed clothing and bedding ordered plus autumn/winter crafts and activities planned for the kids. My start of summer checklist is out and isn't very long but I've started my start of autumn checklist already because it has so much on it! I'm so excited to start preparing for the cold weather.

Pumpkin themed clothing ? You've got to be shitting me.

RampantIvy · 16/06/2022 22:18

I often wonder about that as well. They also have an endless supply of seasoned logs for their open fires, or have a huge bank account to pay for their heating and tumble drying bills.

So true. Mists and mellow fucking fruitfulness. They’re not called the Romantics for nothing.

seaUrchinOne · 16/06/2022 22:33

The nights will start slowly drawing in after the 21st

edwinbear · 16/06/2022 22:47

I personally love a hot sunny day, but felt for DD today having to compete at sports day. DS has a major schools athletics tournament tomorrow and will have to run the 300m in 34 degrees - you couldn’t pay me enough to do that!

TheLostNights · 16/06/2022 22:51

We've had quite a few hot days this year but then I am down south. Absolutely dreading tomorrow, anyone who tells me I should enjoy 34C heat, sweat clinging to me, feeling ill with headaches and nausea as well as the impossibility of not being able to sleep can do one.

ilovesooty · 16/06/2022 22:57

I don't recall one day in Yorkshire so far that I'd describe as hot.

RampantIvy · 16/06/2022 23:06

Today was pretty warm @ilovesooty. We had 24 degrees in South Yorkshire. I wore sandals today for the first time this year.

Thanks. I'm abroad at the moment and it's forecast 16© and rain on Saturday when I'm due back.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 16/06/2022 23:50

Well I'm not a big fan if heat and summer but I'm not wishing it away!

Actually I'm not a big fan of rain, damp and large heating bills either

And hot chocolate, hearty soups, and duvets to snuggle under.

It’s 17 degrees and raining here in Edinburgh. I’m from dahn sarf - give me warm or hot summers any day.

RampantIvy · 17/06/2022 08:47

These people who don't feel the cold shouldn't need open fires, hot chocolate, hearty soups and sunggly duvets anyway. It's us heat lovers who need all of these in winter.

SirChenjins · 17/06/2022 08:48

Exactly. And a great big stonking SAD lamp to get our much needed light from.

LuckySantangelo35 · 17/06/2022 08:57

Urgh all you people complaining about the heat!

it’s not even that hot anywhere in the UK

and also, we barely get any nice warm sunny weather in the uk. Yet these winter lovers get MONTHS of dark evenings and grey skies and cold.

So….you need to just SUCK IT UP and stop complaining!! I’m hoping for lots more days like today 🤞😃

LuckySantangelo35 · 17/06/2022 08:58

Oh and all those ‘love cosy nights, hot choc, pyjamas, snuggles with my little family’ folk can do one!

Its proper sad and makes me cringe for you

@TheLostNights

why on earth would you have headache and nausea in tomorrow’s warm weather?

how do you cope on holiday in actual hot weather?

Are you ok?

Hhhdfgjjgggjj6677 · 17/06/2022 09:00

I’d love it if I was child free , toddlers in the heat is not fun , mine is so grumpy.

GoodJanetBadJanet · 17/06/2022 09:02

I'm usually a winter person to I and hate it too hot as well, but come on, seriously?!
It's been hot for literally only a few days but winter like for absolute months!
First time the heat has really made an appearance this year, and already people have had enough
