I thought I would start a thread. It's muggy and I'm tired. I can't wait for the cool Autumn days and darker evenings 🤣

I've already started planning for September, got a large order of autumnal decorations hopefully arriving next week, pumpkin themed clothing and bedding ordered plus autumn/winter crafts and activities planned for the kids. My start of summer checklist is out and isn't very long but I've started my start of autumn checklist already because it has so much on it! I'm so excited to start preparing for the cold weather.

@PumpkinSpicedLatte22

Must have too much time (and money) on your hands.

Why don’t you recycle your stuff year on year?

SofiaSoFar · 17/06/2022 09:17

Nights start drawing in again later next week.

Will be autumn before we know it.

SofiaSoFar · 17/06/2022 09:20

@LuckySantangelo35

...how do you cope on holiday in actual hot weather?

Bit of an odd thing to say given that not everyone goes on holiday to hot places.

Nah, got a couple of months of summer to go!

Yay!

I hope you all melt 😀

PumpkinSpicedLatte22 · 17/06/2022 09:23

@LuckySantangelo35 a lot of stuff we do recycle or reuse, when my kids grow out of their clothing it goes to a charity shop, or if it's not in great condition we chop it up and use it for crafts, any other bits either get given away or we try to recreate something new out of the materials.

Autumn is my favourite time of year, I love the cold, miserable weather and when it gets dark at 4 in the afternoon. I passionately hate summer.
Also it doesn't cost much, I just bought my son a new bedding set for £5. Too much time on my hands I'll agree with, I only work 48 hours a week, lots of free time.

True but hotter climes do exist and the people who live there just get on with it. Yeah they may have siestas or whatever but that is because their temperatures get waaaaay hotter than in the Uk. Some people are just fragile and love a whinge

gunnersgold · 17/06/2022 09:26

I love the sunshine , I cleaned my house yesterday and didn't even break a sweat , my daughter is in a right state though and hates it ..

I just love the freedom of fewer clothes and the care free feeling of summer !

What on earth can you love about miserable weather and it getting dark at 4pm?? Genuinely curious!

To me it’s so restrictive - going out for a run in the dark isn’t great and you can’t sit in a beer garden with friends with cocktails and you can’t even sit in your own garden cos it’s dark and cold and all your plants and stuff are dead. I hate “snuggling”. I need fresh air and exercise and vitamin D.

Why do you like it?!

Me too!

all these sweaty people to me must have something wrong with them!

SirChenjins · 17/06/2022 09:29

Why do you love cold, miserable weather?. I imagine if you’re working 48 hours a week the commuting must be hell in the snow and ice, and you must worry about childcare if the nursery or schools have to close. It can’t be nice hoping for decent weather on your days off only to find you’re cooped in because it’s too bad to go out in, and you must find the lack of sunshine and fresh air difficult during the endless days over the autumn and winter months inside with young children. It must also curtail your activities - sports, picnics, gardening, nature walks are all very much more limited in the miserable, cold weather.

I was about to say this! Scotland is perfect for people who hate being too hot.

I'm in the Highlands and we've had some pretty high temperatures. It's been so warm up here that the water level is Loch Ness is the lowest its ever been, I believe.

Best thing to do is plan ahead and adapt each summer wherever you live in the UK.

I love hot weather, me!

Suddha · 17/06/2022 09:36

I’m sick of the weather too. It’s too bright, I have to wear sunglasses and draw the curtains during the day. Can’t stay outside for too long in case I burn. Have to slap on sunscreen and wear a stupid hat all the time. It’s an absolute pain.

PumpkinSpicedLatte22 · 17/06/2022 09:43

@LuckySantangelo35 People are very different, I don't like being warm, I don't like the bugs in summer, I have a chronic condition which the heat causes flare ups, i regularly work nights and have to try to sleep with bright sunshine coming through the window, can't shut the window because it's too hot so I'm kept awake by people mowing their lawn during the day plus I spend the entire summer trying to keep my medication in the safe temperature range which is difficult when my whole house is 30°c and my medication needs to be kept below 25°c

I still go for a run during the colder seasons, it's crisp, fresh, there's no one else around when it's pitch black and freezing outside, it's great! My health improves due to the cold, I go on nature walks with my kids and they love it, especially when the ground is covered in frost or leaves, when I get up at 3am for work it's actually still dark, when I come home at 6pm it's dark, I can sit in my garden with a cup of coffee and I genuinely love it.

you must realise you are in minority to sit in your garden in the cold and dark

I feel your pain. I despise English summers. The smell of hot bums, the piss heads, the top less men, everyone thinking its so bloody lovely. And no AC. I never visit the UK unless its winter. And I have houses in two countries tries so I cam winter in England and summer in a country with AC. I think it's actually arrogant the way the weather people apolose for rain and assume everyone lives the sun. I hate it and often try to devuse ways to cover it or blow it up 😀

PumpkinSpicedLatte22 · 17/06/2022 10:02

@SirChenjins getting to work in the snow and ice is a little tricky yes, but I just allow myself longer than normal. Childcare is never an issue, me and my partner work opposite shifts so there's always one of us at home. Weather doesn't really put a stop to any activities, swimming is indoors, soft play is indoors, the local leisure centre has a kids section that's indoors, even nature walks are still fun, just wrap up warm and get on with it. If the weather is really too bad, we do lots of fun things indoors. My eldest is autistic and also doesn't like the heat.

etulosba · 17/06/2022 10:14

I’ve spent a fair bit of time in warmer climes and you get acclimatised to it. Not using air con speeds the process up.

Really warm weather in the UK is so rare and usually so short in duration that there isn’t time to acclimatise.

”hot bums” WTF?!

LuckySantangelo35 · 17/06/2022 10:20

lots of you here should move to Iceland and then you can all huddle down and enjoy the cold and dark days together and let everyone else enjoy the sun without you moaning

Ggg626262 · 17/06/2022 10:25

Hotbum. When it's suddenly hot and you find yourself in confined unairconditoned spaces with strangers. The air always seems to have a hint of sweaty bum cheek and a drip of stale urine 😀

really dont know where you’re hanging out to experience this!

It's overcast in London at the moment and distinctly cooler than yesterday, so far.

I wonder what OP decided to do.

@LuckySantangelo35 can I ask why it bothers you that people hate hot weather? You’ve written some not that nice comments, and in another one saying you’re cringing for someone else. And in this one you’re wishing it on people.

Hot weather can seriously impact a lot of us, especially: Those with illnesses/health conditions, those in poverty, those in buildings designed to trap heat that can get to unbearable levels even through the night.

Someone also mentioned a really good point which is that medication has to be stored within a certain temp range, this can be impossible in some properties.

Why be so nasty and wish for people to find it difficult? When it’s Winter I’ll enjoy it personally but I don’t wish for anyone to suffer through it and I feel so bad for my family members who hate it a lot.

I’m probably overreacting, I just find some of your comments a bit mean I guess!

You know that Iceland, while it does get long dark winters, also get very light summers with it never getting dark?

@nevergoesaway

Just find it tiresome that in the UK as soon as we have one warm day you get threads like this and people moaning and whinging and wishing it away when in reality we barely get any summer days compared to winter ones!
