I thought I would start a thread. It's muggy and I'm tired. I can't wait for the cool Autumn days and darker evenings 🤣

I hate the humidity levels which never seem to go down in the Uk

Which particular parts of the UK have consistently high humidity levels? Shetland? Berwick on Tweed? Chorley? Belfast? Swansea?

Oh it’s Midlands, don’t want to say exactly where but it’s very humid here. I should have been more specific sorry, I do realise not everywhere in the UK is humid.

This. I wear baggy dresses or loose trousers and tops or T-shirts. Much cooler than fitted clothes and exposed skin. Everything covered except mid calf and elbow down.

This sounds great actually! I need to rethink my summer wardrobe.

MrsJBaptiste · 16/06/2022 13:53

Yes, it's so hot, we must have at least 3 days of warm (definitely not hot) weather these past few months...

And 3 days is pushing it to be honest.

Posters who think the opposite...why join the thread?!
This is clearly for people who dislike Summer. Title says it all!😀

I’m not sure about that, it’s been pretty warm for some of us on and off for a good few weeks now. You have to remember that some of us live in highly insulated flats, where anything over about 17 degrees will heat the whole place up.

And we all have different definitions of what is “too hot”. And a lot of us have health conditions that get worse as it gets warmer. I’m sure there’s threads in Winter where people say the exact same as what some of us are saying here. I would never go onto one of those threads and tell people they’re wrong to find it too cold, or that they’re begrudging us Summer-haters from enjoying the cooler weather!

xogossipgirlxo · 16/06/2022 14:15

I am the opposite. Parked my car, got out of it and felt warm air. Really lovely. Then saw some lady heading to her car wearing shorts and t-shirt and I looked at myself wearing boring long smart trousers and a blazer, because of work and I wanted to cry. I so would want to have a day off tomorrow to enjoy the weather. Weekend will probably be shit as always.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 16/06/2022 14:58

How anyone can say they enjoy this heat is beyond me.
To think as well its not even Summer yet until the 21st of June.

24 June is Midsummer Day. This is definitely summer. I absolutely love it.

'This heat' (19 degrees) is lovely.

It depends on the individual and their circumstances.

I tolerate heat well
I am not overweight
I wear appropriate clothing
I don't live in London or commute by public transport
I live on the edge of the Pennines and there is usually a breeze
I have a car with aircon
I have a house with a garden

Anxiernie · 16/06/2022 15:49

You can still wear figure covering clothes in summer. Just wear loose trousers and loose cotton or linen tops instead of tight fitting clothes and jumpers.

Summer clothes don't have to be skimpy.

I already do this, but still feel way more "exposed" than I do wearing autumn/winter/spring clothes. Issue is when I walk or there is a breeze the baggy top blows in and still shows my stomach or hips etc. And I hate my arms.

I love baggy maxi summer dresses, but I tend to like to wear jumpers over the top of them, so I wear then more in colder weather. I mean I'm out today in a hoodie but I'm not wearing anything else underneath it , and my baggy trousers have slits in the side for air flow.

Being wrapped in layers makes me feel "safe". Swimwear is also a massive issue for me in the summer.

Just prefer layers.

It's 28 where I am, not 19.

Yes - 'this heat' varies across the UK. There is no such thing as 'this heat', it's 'the heat where I am'.

True, and it's all subjective. I hate 19c too and don't find it lovely.

50?! Where?! Apart from Dubai...

Places like Kuwait, Qatar, Iran, Iraq, parts of India, Bangladesh. The number of 50C days has doubled or more.
The BBC did a good series on it called Life at 50C.

From a practical point of view I can’t see how anyone one can hate the summer.ok you might not enjoy the heat but surely the hotter weather makes life easier and cheaper.
less heating and lighting bills. Less washing and no thick jeans or heavy jumpers to get dry. Only shorts and t shirts which you can dry in the sun outside quickly and comes in smelling fresh and not of fake chemical lenor spring fresh.
no dripping coats to get dry, no muddy boots to clean, children can play outside and do free actives rather than having to pay for indoor soft play and longer days to enjoy.

Actually my bills go up in the summer to keep the house cool. I probably wash more in the summer cause I get sweaty so often I change clothes more!😂

Plus I hate tshirts and shorts. I prefer long sleeve shirts and boots and jackets. And where I live it's way too hot for kids to play outside but these days I notice most kids rarely play outside anyway.

And I actually miss the shorter days. I'm ready to get cozy in the bed at 8 and the sun is blazing out. It's blazing when I wake up, sheesh! LOL

I prefer autumn, it's cooler and you don't need AC or heat, the kids prefer it, and you can get away with wearing any type of clothes cause it's not hot or cold.

I agree.

I also think it's perception and what you are used to. If you live in an area that regularly gets temps in mid 20's then you notice if temperature falls to mid teens and it will feel colder to you. If you live somewhere that's usually mid/late teens in the summer you notice if it gets warmer than that.

I also think our perception on heat is based on how much sun we see. The met office said that may was the 5th warmest since records began but also had less hours of sunshine than is average for may. It was also (on the whole) drier than average -but that's obviously dependent on where in the uk you are. North west Scotland was above average for rainfall.

I love the light, but I **ing HATE the heat. My perfect day is blue sky and sun, but just cold enough to see your breath. I could never move to somewhere like Spain or Australia. The heat would kill me.

Oh me too, I love bright chilly days!

I can hope with heat if I can be cool when I'm inside, UK houses aren't designed to be cool. Hot nights are awful. Humidity is awful, I do better with dry heat.
