How have the court of appeal allowed the Rwanda thing to go ahead?

This seems extremely costly, very bad for the climate change challenge in terms of flights and staggeringly lacking in humanity.

How have the court of appeal allowed these flights to go ahead?

I guess if we rewind from the the real question is how and why on earth are our government pushing this awful idea?

Oh the irony.
We will send less than 10 migrants off on a near empty plane at enormous expense to Rwanda and can't get our own citizens off on holiday from most airports!
We will send less than 10 migrants off to Rwanda and will be getting planes full back of their 'unwanted refugees'.

An abomination of a policy from this inept government.

For those who ask what are the alternatives, here is a thread

1. Those of us who oppose the Rwanda plan are sometimes asked what our alternative is. The idea that the only possible response to small boat arrivals is to ship some of them to Rwanda is self evidently absurd. There are plenty of alternatives.

Oof. There are reports that the flight that won’t fly has already been paid for.

£500,000

For nothing.

BewareTheLibrarians · 14/06/2022 23:43

(Obviously the money is not at all important in comparison with the human lives involved, but a further kick in the teeth for kids with no school meals, women without refuge beds, understaffed hospitals, slashed school budgets.. There’s always money when they want it, and never when we need it.)

SpinMeARiver · 15/06/2022 05:17

So, as of this morning, no flight to Rwanda.

What a fucking farce. And yes, I think the public need to hear more about the reciprocal arrangements and the fact that we are exchanging asylum seekers and refugees, and not necessarily carrying out net deportations.

IanOsenfrote · 15/06/2022 09:02

I wonder how long it will be before some 'patriotic types' buy or hire a boat, sail 10 miles out and start sinking any dinghy they come across.

Did anyone hear Boris is refusing to rule out leaving the European Convention on human rights?

He is our UK Trump - doesn't care about people or human suffering.

What an appalling human being he is.

Why don't you personally take in one of these economic migrants into your own home and fund them yourself?

Or don't you care about people or human suffering?

Interesting comments from Sir Brian Leveson QC about ECtHR and relationship with British Judges [from 2015]

Delighted to hear that the flight will not be leaving. Nobody left on it!

She-devil Priti Patel is "very surprised" at the intervention of the ECHR, which reminded me of He-devil Boris Johnson being "very surprised" to get a Partygate Fixed Penalty Notice. It is a shame for both of them, isn't it?

Excellent! 👏👏👏

That has nothing at all to do with asylum seekers and everything to do with the current Conservative government who have had twelve years to unfuck the country and decided that the best way to achieve this would be to fuck it even more.

People voted for cuts. This is what cuts look like. People voted for Brexit despite warnings that it would fuck services, fuck the economy, and fuck everyone who isn't a multimillion. This is what Brexit looks like.

This, again and again. The only people responsible for the fact you can't get a GP appointment, can't get a school place, can't get swimming lessons at your council pool, don't get paid enough, can't afford your insane rent level, can't get help with social housing or social care, can't get an ambulance for hours, can't get seen in A&E in less than 12 hours is the fucking circus in Westminster. This is not a migrant or refugee problem. Anyone saying it is just doing the circus' PR for them. This Rwanda policy, the government's flagship policy no less, is nothing more than a distraction from the fact the government is actually doing no governing at all but rather spending every moment of every day trying - utterly incomprehensibly - to prop up a narcissistic immoral dead man walking.

Yep. 100% agree!

What get me is that every time it suits the Tories, we get the "how can we be wasting time with this when their is a war going on in Ukraine" and yet it's ok for time and effort to be wasted on this. I loathe them and their low brand politics more each day.

Told my Daily Mail reading neighbour that it was exactly like transportation only we can't send them to Australia now.

As for saying "it is the will of the people" bollocks ,no-one asked me
