Fuming at this guy in the supermarket

I was in the supermarket this evening and I went to pick up a bottle of fabric conditioner. It was from a good brand and very cheap on offer. A big bottle for a cheap price. It was also the last one of that particular fragrance on the shelf. As I reached out to take it from the shelf, I had almost got it when a guy came by the side of me and grabbed it. He then went over to a girl who I presume was his girlfriend and gave it to her. Presumably, she has asked him to get it for her. I was absolutely fuming. I picked my jaw up off the floor said 'You fucking cunt' and walked off.

AIBU for saying that?

Which supermarket? I hope you weren't lowering the tone in Waitrose or Booths. It's just not the done thing.

Whereas in Tesco it's fine to call someone a cunt. Especially if they take that last bag of apples you had your eye on. Confused

Speckledhen2022 · 13/06/2022 19:41

True. I should have called him a knob

I would have fully supported this then. As long as he didn't look like he might lamp you with the fabric conditioner.

Lovemypeaceandquiet · 13/06/2022 20:17

I bet it was Asda and the conditioner was apple blossom eco ver

I completely get why the OP is raging, I think society is getting ruder and more entitled by the day, and polite people are beginning to snap back and rightly so! There’s only so much you can take! I’ve come across it a lot recently and I’ve had to bite my tongue!

I completely agree with you. I am usually very polite with everyone-until they are rude to me. I was told to 'get out of the way' by a man once (totally unprovoked) and I stupidly said nothing. I was too timid I guess.

Now I am done being polite and saying nothing to blatantly rude people.

when I was 2cm away from getting the bottle, he quickly came by the side of me and grabbed it.

It is simply not possible for him to walk over to you and grab it in the time it took you to move 2cm - unless you were hovering not sure which one to have.

BigFatLiar · 13/06/2022 20:19

His partner is probably a mumsnetter and If he'd gone back to her saying he'd let you have it she'd have been on here accusing him of having an affair with you and we'd all be agreeing.

TabithaTittlemouse · 13/06/2022 20:19

I don’t even think it’s your choice of words that is the most ridiculous thing. It’s the fact that you got so angry about fabric conditioner.

Purplefoxes · 13/06/2022 20:19

Laughing so much as this sounds exactly like something I would do. There are some shops whether you get (sorry this sounds snobby I know but just my observation) the sort of shopper who will barge you out the way for items, not say excuse me and reach over your head etc, move your trolley themselves. Usually they are the budget shops where it is literally a free for all. I hate it as I am fiercely protective of my personal space and people invading it. I'm afraid I probably would have followed them around the store and fished it out their trolley when they weren't looking and replaced it with some sour grapes. 🤣🤣

I think he was being a dick yes.

Thank you!

Massive over reaction. It’s fabric conditioner - he got there first.

Quirrelsotherface · 13/06/2022 20:21

YANBU. He could clearly see you were going for it, zoomed in and whipped it off you. He was a cunt. The people who are cats bum mouth, you know they're the ones knicking the last tin of Heinz soup from an old lady.

He was a cunt and an example of the dog eat dog society that we are becoming!

WhereTheLightningBugsBlaze · 13/06/2022 20:22

Act like a cunt, you get called a cunt

This supermarket was by no means a budget supermarket. It was one of the most expensive ones to shop at. I have actually found the people in budget supermarket to be more polite than this guy!

Exactly. If I had done what he did, I would have expected the other person to react negatively. But then I would never grab something that someone else was obviously reaching for.

Wobblywibblywoo · 13/06/2022 20:26

exactly, unfortunately for us polite people we seem to get walked all over, And then they are shocked when we snap! And somehow we become the bad guys!

In my local tesco they skip the swearing and go straight to fighting, eggs, turkeys and sprouts have been the cause of violent altercations, the police have been called on at least one occasion. It's a nice town too! Christmas and lockdown seems to being out the worst in people.

Everydaydayisaschoolday · 13/06/2022 20:27

Calling him a cunt was a massive overreaction.

NotSur · 13/06/2022 20:28

Someone did this to me once and actually had physically pushed me to grab the last one (it was a birthday cake and the only one my dc specifically had asked for).

I didn’t say anything instead I decided I would leave the trolley with dh and I (probably looking ridiculously suspicious) sneaked round following her till she left her trolley and I took the cake and went immediately to pay for it 🤣🤣

Well, he was being a cunt. Maybe if we told men they were being dicks when they were being dicks we’d all be much better off?

And if the man responded with a similar Anglo-Saxon phrase, no doubt he would still be at fault in your mind.
