Fuming at this guy in the supermarket

I was in the supermarket this evening and I went to pick up a bottle of fabric conditioner. It was from a good brand and very cheap on offer. A big bottle for a cheap price. It was also the last one of that particular fragrance on the shelf. As I reached out to take it from the shelf, I had almost got it when a guy came by the side of me and grabbed it. He then went over to a girl who I presume was his girlfriend and gave it to her. Presumably, she has asked him to get it for her. I was absolutely fuming. I picked my jaw up off the floor said 'You fucking cunt' and walked off.

AIBU for saying that?

I'd be horrified if someone swore like that in a supermarket. He was out of order but I'd have come up with a classier response. What supermarket were you in?

Agree. What he did was annoying at best, but ops mouth was vile. Pp joked about she should have punched him - she sounds like the type who would.

He must've moved incredibly quickly!

Is this him OP?

🤣

Penguinevere · 13/06/2022 19:59

Yanbu but I’m torn. He deserved it but I also think you should look at a dictionary to find a lower level insult for occasions like this.

Bpdqueen · 13/06/2022 19:59

Yanbu but I have bpd so who knows 🤔🤣🤣

AlisonDonut · 13/06/2022 19:59

I'd save all your money and stop using fabric softener - complete waste of money and one of those must have goods that never existed before marketing decided everyone needs it. I've not used it in at least 20 years. Think how much this guy is going to save you in the long run?

DuckBilledPlattyJoobs · 13/06/2022 19:59

Grim all round

925XX · 13/06/2022 20:02

What a vile thing to say!

dawngreen · 13/06/2022 20:02

You should see the sweet old ladies at my local table top sales/supermarket. I scan for which items I need , and move fast. My fella was all polite and sweet until he got pushed and shoved. And elbows in the ribs he was shocked by it.

Gusfringrules · 13/06/2022 20:03

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 13/06/2022 19:35

Fabric softener is highly carcinogenic is that's any consolation.

No it isn't. How many deaths have been recoded as cancer to to fabric conditioner?
It can cause allergic reactions. However, the companies selling alternatives and eco conditioners will spout pseudoscience to sell products.
Do a full search of PubMed or other citation/ scholarly article sites to determine levels of evidence

frydae · 13/06/2022 20:04

I don't think saying 'you fucking cunt' even counts as 'calling him out' (as some have said) - to call someone out surely means to question their behaviour, to raise the issue of their cuntishness? Saying 'you fucking cunt' is just calling him a name.

Anyway, as you were

RealBecca · 13/06/2022 20:05

Yabu. Name calling isnt an acceptable alternative to addressing the problem with a conversation. We teach that in pre-school.

amicissimma · 13/06/2022 20:06

"He then went over to a girl..."

So he started a few steps away, spotted the conditioner they wanted, moved briskly over to it and grabbed it, in the time it took you to finish extending the hand you had started to move while he was a few steps away?

Is there some guy out there saying 'I picked up a bottle of conditioner and a woman standing nearby swore at me'? Or maybe he made no mental connection between you and the conditioner and thought you were one of those people who stands around swearing randomly.

Actually I would never punch anyone.

Im curious to know which generation thinks it’s not that offensive, the one brought up Jeremy Kyle?

I’d probably say everyone under about 40 years old. It’s often used jokingly, it’s like the new version of ‘sod’.

BigFatLiar · 13/06/2022 20:08

Perhaps he was more scared of his girlfriend/wife's reaction on coming back saying he'd let you take it.

Booklover3 · 13/06/2022 20:08

I think he was being a dick yes.

PixieLaLa · 13/06/2022 20:09

I couldn’t get this annoyed by it but in all fairness it does sound like a cunty thing to do! 🤣

Wobblywibblywoo · 13/06/2022 20:10

I completely get why the OP is raging, I think society is getting ruder and more entitled by the day, and polite people are beginning to snap back and rightly so! There’s only so much you can take! I’ve come across it a lot recently and I’ve had to bite my tongue!

bob1964 · 13/06/2022 20:10

nah. its a good idea to kick off every now and then. its better than bottling it up and stewing on it. let people know your there

AlternativelyWired · 13/06/2022 20:11

Which supermarket? I hope you weren't lowering the tone in Waitrose or Booths. It's just not the done thing.

QuebecBagnet · 13/06/2022 20:11

Speckledhen2022 · 13/06/2022 19:23

LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE AT THE BACK

You can call people out without telling people they’re cunts in the supermarket. Personally I like to have a bit more class. 🤷‍♀️

ThisTastesSalty · 13/06/2022 20:14

Massive over reaction!

My tone is so low I've never heard of Booths. Grin

Is this an English thing?

MsTSwift · 13/06/2022 20:14

He behaved badly but your language was grim.

I don't know where he started, but when I was 2cm away from getting the bottle, he quickly came by the side of me and grabbed it.
