To pursue a guy that kicked a pigeon full-force?

So this happened a couple of months ago. I was absolutely fuming, and unable to control my reactions. Talking about it now is inspired by another active thread.

So it was mid-afternoon. I was walking down the tube platform (open station), behind some guy. There was a pigeon sat on the floor. The guy walked up to it, with purpose, and full-on kicked the bird. Proper hard.

I shouted "Oi, you disgusting p**ck" or some such nicety, and continued to follow him along the platform. He didn't react to my shout. Once he reached the end and couldn't go any further, he pulled his hood over his head. I was desperately trying to get his photo (I know, I know, out of order), which he was well aware of, but he kept turning round.

He got on the train and sat down. I sat next to him. He moved. I followed. It was like a game of cat and mouse. I made sure the passengers on the train knew why I was trying to get his picture.

I got off the train and immediately went to speak to a member of staff. They were horrified and said that they were going to hold the train at the next station and the police called.

That's where the story ends.

I feel better for sharing.

AIBU for being proud that the train was being held up for a pigeon?

I was thinking this post was going to be that you went on a date and the guy kicked a pigeon.
then reading through it I was waiting for the plot twist of….you went on a blind date and it was him!!! 😂😂😂

He is a disgusting pig, there’s no need. I admire your willingness to out him. Me personally would have just shouted some profanity and left it. There is no way I would have followed him and risked looking batshit crazy. On that note I don’t think you were being unreasonable, a bit over the top but not unreasonable.

well done though!

you are a hero to that pigeon! I think they remember faces so they’ll remember not to shit on you. ❤️❤️

Well done you! I used to bring injured pigeons and babies that I found when I was a kid, one was called Bobby and lived with us for well over a year! He used to snuggle up with our cockatiel 😆

Chikapu · 09/06/2022 13:45

You put yourself in a ridiculously vulnerable position so sorry I can't applaud that. Well done for caring about the pigeon but he could have reacted very badly to your badgering and involving others.

Muezza · 09/06/2022 13:47

I love pigeons OP, you are my hero.

I would do the same if I witnessed someone publicly abusing an animal, and I give precisely zero shits of anyone thinks I'm unhinged or care too much. Maybe people will think twice about being cruel when there's a risk of being called out.

Catchingtrains · 09/06/2022 13:48

Now I am loath to suggest that anyone may be resorting to hyperbole on MN and risk a deletion but I do not think it is troll hunting to state that I feel this may be fictitious.

Pigeon!!

So? We’re SUPPOSED to teach our children that cruelty to any animal is wrong Hmm

BlazingRufus · 09/06/2022 13:56

This reminded me that I once saw a bloke in a security guard uniform boot a rat in the middle of Leeds City Centre. This was 10 years ago and even then I knew the police wouldn't care, but I was livid and gave him a real earful. No sentient creature deserves to have its back broken like that 😡

100%

Ffoxx · 09/06/2022 13:58

This is mad op, like the other thread of a woman giving chase to a sex offender. It's all well and good to try and be caped crusaders but you've no idea what you're taking on. He could easily have reacted violently there's been many a horrific story of people doing just that.

So yes fine shout at him at the time, tell staff on the platform but to pursue him into the train and chase him about is batshit.

Hallyup89 · 09/06/2022 13:58

What awful behaviour. From you, that is.

Absolutely no need to do what you did. Yes, the bloke is an idiot, but it's a pigeon. Can't believe you held up a train to make sure the police were called who could do absolutely nothing.

Blossomtoes · 09/06/2022 14:01

I’m astonished it just sat there and allowed itself to be kicked. So, good story, bro. I guess inspired by the flasher thread.

I thought the same. Both posters wanting praise for being heroic. 🙄

Quite. Whereas the Zouma brothers taught their son and nephew to hold an animal for Daddy to hit it while Uncle Yoan films it happening.

I agree with this. Holding up a train has a massive impact on other trains. A train won't be held up because a pigeon is on the track. It wouldn't cause an accident.

How is this where the story ends? What happened?

xogossipgirlxo · 09/06/2022 14:05

Well done you! I love you already. Especially after reading that some teenage tw*t tried to rip pigeon's wing. They had to put poor creature down, because he was in too much pain.

ChagSameachDoreen · 09/06/2022 12:33

Eh. It's a pigpen.

People who are cruel to animals often go on to abuse people too.

SirenSays · 09/06/2022 14:13

It's vile the way people try to normalise animal cruelty. Only a pigeon ffs

BiscoffSundae · 09/06/2022 14:15

I’m surprised so many think you are not being unreasonable, yeh fine you shouted at him but the following etc was really crazy you are lucky he didn’t attack you and I think it was a silly thing to do. My sister once called the police because a man was beating up his dog and the police wouldn’t do anything or even come out. So no way would they be interested over a pigeon I suspect the footballer one only went so far because he is a footballer…😌

EverybodysBuildingShipsandBoats · 09/06/2022 14:17

YANBU, it's time this trend for kicking animals for fun stopped.

10HailMarys · 09/06/2022 14:19

Anyone who thinks it's no big deal to kick any animal or bird, regardless of whether they consider it vermin, is without exception a cunt.

LizzieW1969 · 09/06/2022 14:24

I agree that what he did was vile, and it’s no justification whatsoever that it was ‘only a pigeon’; YWNBU to shout at him about it. But you were very foolish to take it further by chasing him; as some PPs have said, he could easily have turned his aggression on to you.

NotMyselfWithoutCoffee · 09/06/2022 14:32

I voted Yabu only because I think it was enough to call him out on it, but following him around seems unhinged and you could have gotten yourself hurt if he turned violent.
I dislike pigeons but I wouldn't deliberately kick one.
