To pursue a guy that kicked a pigeon full-force?

So this happened a couple of months ago. I was absolutely fuming, and unable to control my reactions. Talking about it now is inspired by another active thread.

So it was mid-afternoon. I was walking down the tube platform (open station), behind some guy. There was a pigeon sat on the floor. The guy walked up to it, with purpose, and full-on kicked the bird. Proper hard.

I shouted "Oi, you disgusting p**ck" or some such nicety, and continued to follow him along the platform. He didn't react to my shout. Once he reached the end and couldn't go any further, he pulled his hood over his head. I was desperately trying to get his photo (I know, I know, out of order), which he was well aware of, but he kept turning round.

He got on the train and sat down. I sat next to him. He moved. I followed. It was like a game of cat and mouse. I made sure the passengers on the train knew why I was trying to get his picture.

I got off the train and immediately went to speak to a member of staff. They were horrified and said that they were going to hold the train at the next station and the police called.

That's where the story ends.

I feel better for sharing.

AIBU for being proud that the train was being held up for a pigeon?

Plus chasing someone along a train and shouting............ op sounds like a proper whack job !!!!!!!!! 🤪

Says the person who deliberately runs over birds!

Mariposista · 09/06/2022 15:34

I hate pigeons but this s just horrible behaviour. He could have just scared it away if it was bothering him! No need to hurt it.
Never thought I'd feel sorry for a pigeon.

hangrylady · 09/06/2022 15:38

I think you were right to call him out but following him and holding up a train. Really? I'd have been pissed off if I was on that train TBH.

This. The irony of calling someone a whack job when you use your car to run over birds on purpose. Fucking hell. I despair sometimes. I'd genuinely rather have a garden full of shitting pigeons than this lunatic living near me.

hangrylady · 09/06/2022 15:40

Also I actually don't believe you that the station staff called the police and held the train.

amylou8 · 09/06/2022 15:42

Can you actually kick a pigeon? I've never tried (obviously) and am basing my experience on the fact they avoid cars hurtling towards them at 50mph without even ruffling a feather. Of course hurting any animal is unacceptable, and you did right to call him out/shout at him. I would have stopped there though. The rest sounds a bit psycho.

Can you actually kick a pigeon?

😁 You're right, they're goddamned ninjas when they are playing chicken with cars.

fUNNYfACE36 · 09/06/2022 15:46

I think your behaviour was nearly as bad tbh. It's a pigeon -vermin that we are allowed to poison or shot, or trap and wring their little necks

ChagSameachDoreen · 09/06/2022 12:33

Eh. It's a pigpen.

Errr you're a dick

Gizacluethen · 09/06/2022 15:58

A person who deliberately kicks animals in public definitely needs to be on someone's radar. It just shows how natural that kind of thing comes to them. Imagine what he does in private to his own pets or family. Vile person.

LMCOA · 09/06/2022 17:44

Aww, thanks to those people who have posted supportive messages!

To those that I have suggested that I made the story up; erm....ok? Not sure why anyone would do that, but crack on!

Also, I totally get why people were saying that I was stupid to pursue this guy - and I absolutely know that you are right. But adrenaline kicked in, I was SO riled and just couldn't stop myself. The fact he was deliberately moving away rather than stopping to face me just made me want to confront him even more. But yes, I agree, it was a stupid and dangerous thing to do.

Thanks again. It's good to see that the majority of people agree that kicking a pigeon is not ok.

I think maybe you should read my OP again.

I’m with OP on this.

I read somewhere that many serial killers started with being needlessly cruel to animals.

It’s a pity that the courts can’t sentence people like this to a kick up the a**e with a large boot for behaviour like that!

Saw a seagull kill and eat a pigeon the other day, nasty to watch, tried to intervene but the safety catch on my hotel window wouldnt let me aim properly (I fired a small easy peeler at the seagull) and nature had to take its course. Could be worse, there is a YouTube of a shark eating a horse, very nasty.
