To pursue a guy that kicked a pigeon full-force?

So this happened a couple of months ago. I was absolutely fuming, and unable to control my reactions. Talking about it now is inspired by another active thread.

So it was mid-afternoon. I was walking down the tube platform (open station), behind some guy. There was a pigeon sat on the floor. The guy walked up to it, with purpose, and full-on kicked the bird. Proper hard.

I shouted "Oi, you disgusting p**ck" or some such nicety, and continued to follow him along the platform. He didn't react to my shout. Once he reached the end and couldn't go any further, he pulled his hood over his head. I was desperately trying to get his photo (I know, I know, out of order), which he was well aware of, but he kept turning round.

He got on the train and sat down. I sat next to him. He moved. I followed. It was like a game of cat and mouse. I made sure the passengers on the train knew why I was trying to get his picture.

I got off the train and immediately went to speak to a member of staff. They were horrified and said that they were going to hold the train at the next station and the police called.

That's where the story ends.

I feel better for sharing.

AIBU for being proud that the train was being held up for a pigeon?

I'm largely with you, OP. Apart from, I would have stayed to help the pigeon. I hope someone checked it was OK or got it veterinary help.

ittakes2 · 09/06/2022 14:34

I voted you were being unreasonable because he could have reacted violently causing more havoc =- better to alert the staff at the first station rather than follow him aggressively.

Thatswhyimacat · 09/06/2022 14:36

Look, I don't want people to kick pigeons but following and berating him in the way you did was an incredibly stupid thing to do and you could have gotten very hurt.

FearlessFreddie · 09/06/2022 14:37

Good for you.

Must confess, I opened this thread thinking you were asking whether YWBU to romantically pursue a guy who kicked a pigeon, ie was animal cruelty a relationship red flag 😭

SandAndSea · 09/06/2022 14:38

For people who don't believe a pigeon would sit there and be kicked, it could easily have been a young pigeon which had fallen out of the nest.

Stillafatknacker · 09/06/2022 14:43

Only a pigeon FFs! Animal cruelty is abhorrent. Well done OP

HoundHound · 09/06/2022 14:43

Well done, at least he will think twice before he tries to do it again. People get away with so much because we are all too scared to speak up for fear of repercussions.

RomanceOnARooftop · 09/06/2022 14:44

As it’s over and you are safe, good for you.

I love animals and would have been extremely angry. I’d have felt like beating the shit out of him. Maybe karma will get the cunt and he’ll have a painful death. 🙏🏻

SeriousAlligator · 09/06/2022 14:45

I want to be your friend op. Thank you.

This. It's a living, breathing creature that feels pain whatever you feel about it's "pest" status. Anyone who does this is fucking unhinged.

I mean, you both sound unhinged in your own particular ways. You don't sound brave at all, it sounds like you were spoiling for a fight with a crazy person.

Discovereads · 09/06/2022 14:52

I voted YABU not because I think pigeons deserve to be kicked, but because you took your response to extreme lengths. The calling him out on it was enough, but chasing him down the platform, trying to take his photo, following him onto the train and then every time he tried to move away you followed and sat next to him while loudly telling other passengers why you were stalking this man.

People have been stabbed to death on trains for far less. You were not heroic but recklessly stupid. Furthermore, you didn’t even check on the pigeon to see if it was ok or needed medical assistance. Which has me questioning whether you really did care about the pigeon or if this was just a convenient excuse to go all vigilante on someone.

AryaStarkWolf · 09/06/2022 14:55

Well done OP, what a scumbag, if nothing else it will make him think before he does something like that again

This. Do be careful though.

Now I am loath to suggest that anyone may be resorting to hyperbole on MN and risk a deletion but I do not think it is troll hunting to state that I feel this may be fictitious.

I have to agree with you. They held up a train for a pigeon! As in because of the pigeon's health?

whumpthereitis · 09/06/2022 15:02

I think you’re amazing, personally. Good for you.

Femalewoman · 09/06/2022 15:05

There was a footballer that kicked his kitten right across the room. Vile

SmiledWtherisingsun · 09/06/2022 15:05

I was thinking this post was going to be that you went on a date and the guy kicked a pigeon

Me too 🤣🤣🤣

Palladin · 09/06/2022 15:10

ChagSameachDoreen · 09/06/2022 12:33

Eh. It's a pigpen.

That makes it OK to cause pain to a living, feeling creature, for gratification? Your mindset is disgusting.

Well done, OP!

I don’t think the OP was suggesting the train was held up because of the health of the pigeon, it was so the police could come out and presumably arrest the man who kicked it.

But it isn’t very likely, is it?

Diyextension · 09/06/2022 15:19

Plus chasing someone along a train and shouting............ op sounds like a proper whack job !!!!!!!!! 🤪

DeadHouseBounce · 09/06/2022 15:19

Did you go home and eat a steak pie to get your energy back, or are you a vegan?

Blossomtoes · 09/06/2022 15:24

You have a gift for understatement @Catchingtrains.
