Worst celebrity you have ever met part 2

Starting a new thread as last one wasn't accepting new posts.. Years ago I was a young dancer and background singer .. Very shy starting out on the job I loved (age 16 ) Jim Davison was on the Sunderland Empire about 2002 ish.. He was awful.. Moody! Shouty! Miserable, Rude.😭 I danced and sang in a lot of shows afterwards, and the much bigger stars were absolutely lovely.. But he is the one I remember most.. Awful man!.. I have worked with the Nolan Sisters and they all were so lovely.. I really understand how Linda (she was so kind and lovely to me, as were all of the sisters) did not like Jim Davison when she was in Big Brother (that was not the man he acted like on that show) Out of all the 50+ lovely celebrities I worked with over 15 years(some quite famous stars) , this is the one I remember most as the most horrible one.

I worked with Ronnie Corbett and he was genuinely one of the loveliest people I’d ever worked with. Him and his wife were both really sweet.

Worked WITH him, though - not FOR him. In what capacity? Even the nastiest celebs we all hear about are nicey-nicey to people they consider their 'equals' and 'superiors' and when it can help their career. It's a completely different matter whether they treat a waitress with respect and kindness or scream abuse at her and shout "Don't you know who I am?!"

Incidentally, I really think some of these celebs who play the "Don't you know who I am?" card can't be all that bright, as it really isn't the 'gotcha' that they seem to believe. The very fact that you have to ask it is proof that you aren't as famous or important as you think you are. Can you imagine the Queen ever feeling the need to say that to tip somebody the wink as to who she is?

I was his runner so I worked for him. I was lowest position on the production team and got all the shitty jobs (taking his dirty clothes to laundrette, getting lunch/dinner in, running errands, making tea, doing as I was asked/told). Many celebs didn’t treat runners well (I noticed someone mentioned John Lesley above for example) but he consistently did. I was not a peer or a superior, I had no authority on the team at all. The production team were shits to me often but he (and his wife) were always very kind.

I can’t help that he was nice to me 😂😂😂🤦‍♀️

Has anyone met Nigella?

Yes! At a book event. I was able to chat for a moment as she signed my books, and when I told her I’d used her recipes to feed my mum up after she’d had a cancer op, she welled up, and grabbed my hands and said how lovely that was and how humble it made her feel. She seemed very genuine. And she was funny and interesting in the talk, too. And she is TINY!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 09/06/2022 20:09

Fair enough, then - I'm glad he treated you nicely, no need to apologise!!!

I was waiting for you to say that you were the ghost of Ronnie Barker or something Grin

Callipygion · 09/06/2022 20:16

and he held up a copy of his book, practically hiding my badger.

OMG I am howling at that comment 😂😂

Katya213 · 09/06/2022 20:21

I can't believe I forgot to mention Kiera knightly, her husband and daughter came into the chippy I worked in, they were lovely and she spoke non stop about her little girl they both clearly adored. Really kind, sweet people.

ArabellaDrummond · 09/06/2022 20:33

I love these threads!
Katherine Jenkins - horrible woman, treated her runners like shit, the place we were at only did Pepsi max in the vending machine and not Diet Coke, because the Pepsi Max had 1 calorie in it she made her runner go and find one (we were in the middle of nowhere) looked down on everyone including the film crew.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 09/06/2022 20:34

Sounds like something out of Calendar Girls and their strategically-placed 'considerably-bigger buns' Grin

TurquoiseDragon · 09/06/2022 20:41

Is there a link to the first thread, please? Tried searching but I'm tired and the search isn't making sense to me.

dancingmarshmallow · 09/06/2022 20:47

@ArabellaDrummond oh my goodness I can't believe that about Katherine-she always seems so sweet on tv!

A deceased comedian.

Creep. Met with my friend in the venue he'd performed at. He sat at the table with the two of us and told extremely graphic stories in a strong West Country accent about all the women he'd shagged (presumably behind his wife's back). At one point, reached over and grabbed my breast like it was the natural next step in the conversation. Acted offended that I was not receptive- like I should be pleased because he was famous. And older than my dad. Then as we got up to leave he tried to snog my friend.🤢🤢

I've heard similar stories about him. I don't want to write his name because his family will still be mourning him I imagine and it seems tasteless of me, but I think I've given a big clue.

Jethro?

I worked with Brian May once and he was an absolute sweetheart. Talked to everyone at the show and didn't flinch when i accidently made him a super strong Vodka Tonic. He became good friends with a mate of mine and even invited him round his house to do an interview. Wish he'd have invited me though!

This doesn't surprise me. I saw a documentary about Feddie Mercury and Brian May just came across so genuine warm and intelligent. Love that he's still got the hair too!

GuyFawkesDay · 09/06/2022 21:27

We have a fair few as one of the family works in showbiz and sees celebs daily.

Personally: agree, Frankie Dettori not pleasant

Delightful: Brian Conley who I chatted to for about 10 minutes and couldn't place him as he had a baseball cap on. Really lovely.

Russell Howard: sweet, shy and naturally funny.

Gordon Ramsey I hear nothing but good things from people who work with him.

EsmeSusanOgg · 09/06/2022 21:46

Met Daniel Ricardo at a Red Bull event (he was employing the 5 second rule to pinch my seat). He was an absolute sweetheart, really lovely and down-to-earth. Sebastien Loeb (many times world champion rally driver) was utterly charming.

Agree with a much earlier PP that John Barrowman is a sweetie and smells AMAZING!

The late, great Terry Pratchett was really lovely. Met him as an obsessed fan a few times and book signings. He always took the time to chat, didn't rush anyone one and was sweet.

I did some extra work in my early 20s. I was on the set of Sarah Jane Adventures and Liz Sladden rocked up with a ton of doughnuts for all crew and extras, just because she thought we'd all like doughnuts. She was tiny too! But very nice.

Off people, Ruth Jones (Nessa in Gavin & Stacey) was always very brusque and off with anyone she didn't think was important. Especially junior staff. James Corden on the other hand (in contrast with many internet stories) was really always really friendly and down-to-earth.

EsmeSusanOgg · 09/06/2022 21:47

I've only heard good things about Frank Skinner too.

ScruffGin · 09/06/2022 21:55

Saw Rowan Atkinson in Cornwall, stood outside a pub, looking out at everyone with a "fuck off" look on his face, really not sure why he was stood there, slightly elevated from the street, so everyone noticed him if he wanted to be left alone 😂

Ian Smith (Harold Bishop in Neighbors) is absolutely lovely, he used to go to the same archery club as me, bollocked me every week for smoking and tried very hard to get me to quit!

I've just noticed that the first thread was in Chat whereas this one is in AIBU, which might add to the confusion!

Basilbrushgotfat · 10/06/2022 00:45

Does anyone else think maybe Phil Jupiter and Rowan Atkinson just have Resting F*ck Off Face?

LucyBluee · 10/06/2022 00:54

Tom Hardy is absolutely lovely - very humble and unassuming, happy to have drinks and chat with the staff at the event he attended. Also even better looking in real life.

Have met Kate Middleton a few times through work and she’s an absolute gem - very genuine, polite, and sweet, and always making sure that everyone is ok. She’s also very tall and stunning in the flesh.

Prince Phillip - real character and a genuine laugh. Really nice guy who took the time to speak to everyone.

Katie Price - very chatty and friendly, extremely down to earth. Really hope she sorts her demons as she seems a good egg really.

Met Billie Piper and Laurence Fox while they were married - she was very cold, rude and standoffish, played the “do you know who I am card”, while he was very polite and friendly - complete opposite of my expectations!

Kim Kardashian - very sweet and chatty, a very hands on mum and sharp as a tack - the “dumb valley girl” thing is very much an act.

Maybe but Phil Jupitus (I guess that's who you mean?) is lovely. We have met him at a few fairly small gigs where he has been in the audience and he was always friendly.

ImGettinAWord · 10/06/2022 08:47

I met Peter Kay in the lift at St Marys Hospital Manchester. I was in labour so had decided to go for a walk with dh. Just as the lift doors were closing he ran in. I wasnt with it but recognised him immediately. I realised why he was there so I congratulated him. He was so happy and gave me a big hug and a kiss. He shook dh's hand. When we got out of the lift he went ahead to get the doors opened and was telling the staff about a special delivery coming in 😁. Dh then ran into him again after ds was born and he congratulated him this time.

Im not sure it counts as having met him but i was sitting across the aisle from Neil Morrisey on a flight. He was loud, rude and constantly asking for more drinks. he had a loud conversation on the phone where he kept swearing and going on about wankers. i was sitting with my daughter and she was torn between being fascinated and alarmed.

When we got off the plane he fell down the stairs into baggage reclaim then had the biggest tantrum Ive ever seen from an adult. he was on the phone shouting that it was fucking outrageous that his car wasnt there, lost his temper and aimed as huge kick at his bag, missed slipped and landed flat on his back. we literally all stopped and watched - a whole crowd of us

amazing stuff

Oh gosh, he was on one on that flight!
I've met him a few times and he’s always been lovely. Really happy, chatty, actually listens to you and makes conversation, not just a hi, photo, bye! There were some kids around one time I met him and he was doing his Bob The Builder voice for them.

Some people are not particularly nice but they are kind. Some people are nice but not particularly kind. A lot of people seem to struggle to see the difference between these two groups, and are surprised when someone turns out to be an arsehole.

I'm always suspicious of 'nice' people, personally. Being nice is very superficial and easily faked. Genuine kindness is much harder to act.

This is very true.

I think a lot of the disappointment re: famous people - esp actors - is that we may tend to confuse the role with the person.

So disappointed to read this.

I'd always thought she was as nice as her voice.
