Petrol has gone up from 179.9 this morning where I am to 184.9 this afternoon! AIBU to think this is getting really worrying?

Great way to help the environment.

But also a great way to kill the economy.

Lonelycrab · 06/06/2022 18:40

Guess I should feel lucky I got £1.76 todayHmm

OhmygodDont · 06/06/2022 18:40

If it keeps going up dh won’t get to work which means other companies don’t get their stock. Fun times. Not that I can afford the stuff they store mainly anyway. The rich shall be fumming about their stuff though.

GreenLunchBox · 06/06/2022 18:45

Thieves stole £250K of diesel from a royal navy base in April. Apparently they snuck it out in a mug.🤣

Yes, but won't the firm's pay your DH more and then pass on to their customers, thus creating inflation in other parts of the economy.

The people who will be really affected are those on a fixed income, whose income won't rise anywhere close to inflation. At least if you have a job you can ask for a pay rise.

gotthis · 06/06/2022 19:13

Will this further affect food prices as it gets transported in trucks?

Pay increases are new year or promotion only. So nope no increase will be given to any staff members at this company they will just simply stop showing up they are already approx 5 members of staff short because they cannot get people in at all due to location not being on any public transport and in the middle of nowhere.

We pulled into a service station on the M5 to fill up at the weekend. Pulled straight back out when dh clocked it was £2.14. Waited till nearly home and got it for £1.70.

Isaidnoalready · 06/06/2022 20:13

So they want us and need us to go "out" to work but at this rate no-one will be able to afford it

Clever dicks arnt they

coffeecupsandfairylights · 06/06/2022 20:15

It's £1.89 here and has been since Friday. I need to fill up tomorrow 😭

PuffinMcStuffin · 06/06/2022 20:18

Went from £1.71 to £1.85 here this morning (Rural West of Scotland), my commute is now costing me about £25 a day 😫

DuesToTheDirt · 06/06/2022 20:19

I filled up a couple of days ago. 184.9 at Tesco's Express, but Morrisons a mile away is usually cheaper, so I went there and it was 171.9 - probably about £7 difference on my topup. I don't know how the Tesco's garage gets any customers!

When they brought in the 6p duty cut, I seem to remember prices were about 160-165; we didn't see the full cut, and prices have been going up ever since.

PuffinMcStuffin · 06/06/2022 20:20

Sorry I meant up to £1.95

Milliesmummy92 · 06/06/2022 20:23

There's a garage near me that is the same price for petrol as diesel at 189.9 today- the garage that is literally across the road from it is 162 for petrol! I use an app called petrol prices- not always fully accurate as may have been updated a few days ago but it does always find the cheapest place near to you. I have diesel and when I looked today the cheapest was 178 and dearest 192- and that's just within a 5 mile radius!

AtomicBlondeRose · 06/06/2022 20:23

What jobs are these where you can “ask for a pay rise”? As far as I know most public sector workers are on a pay scale and don’t just get bumped it for asking! And I’m not sure the average retail worker is going to get a warm reception in the manager’s office when they ask for more money to pay for petrol. I might be wrong but I’ve never known it. There must be such a small sector of jobs where you can ask for a pay rise, surely.

PurpleButterflyWings · 06/06/2022 20:23

Yep, £1.81 a litre here.

HeritageVegetable · 06/06/2022 20:23

Blimey, we haven't filled up for a month or two, so this has completely passed us by. It's not made the news at all has it?

Toddlerteaplease · 06/06/2022 20:33

I saw 1.98 today. But it was at a service station. My local sainsbury's which is the cheapest near me is 1.82. 😱😱

I’m another one in rural Scotland with a £25/day commute. Mostly wfh for LA, but they want us back in the autumn. I won’t be able to do it. The bus would give me 3 hours at my desk.

HelloSpringIveMissedYou · 06/06/2022 18:33

It won't be long until a full tank of fuel will be worth more than my car!

I'm approaching that point! Insurance company value my 2001 Peugeot 206 at a rather insulting £200 🤣

Snickerdoodlecabbagepatch · 06/06/2022 20:52

I can't believe the apparent lack of outrage about it tbh. There doesn't seem to be all that much in the news either.

I'm not going to be able to afford to get to work soon!

SweatyChamoisPad · 06/06/2022 20:57

The only thing I’m grateful for is that we are heading into summer, so that I can cycle the 20mile round trip to work and back. I’ll do it for as long as I can through the year, and we are lucky that we have really good showers and cycle facilities at work, but the last time I cycled in the winter I skidded in ice and broke my wrist - not doing that again. My heart breaks for those whose only option to get around, to get to work, school, care, or socialise is the car.

This is us. We have a bus once a week and the nearest big supermarket is 20 miles away. The nearest 'small' Tesco is 7 miles away. We have no choice but to use our car. We will have to have a summer of staying in and doing nothing as well won't even be able to afford to drive into town to go to a cafe or something. It's going to have such a massive knock on effect.

I really wish I had another way of getting to work, but the first train from my town doesn’t get me there until 2 hours after the start of my shift. Going home, using public transport I’d be out of the house for 12 hours - to do a 7.5 hour shift. Driving is 30-40 minutes 😢.

We do have a cushion, but at this rate I’ll be working just to be able to get to/from work. I have to pay to park as well. I’ve started cutting back on things like my hobby to try and save petrol.
