Spineless MPs….then he’ll limp along doing even more attention seeking stunts.

His supporters sold themselves for a mess of pottage.

carefullycourageous · 06/06/2022 21:13

They are now blaming remainers! Like Steve Baker?! They are so desparate now Grin

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/06/2022 21:13

That 148 is far too high for him to have any real credibility left; they'll spin it, but the rivals will be champing at the bit from now on

Peregrina · 06/06/2022 21:13

Wins 'handsomely' with 40% of your party against you.
More than 100 votes against was deemed to be a bad result.

SleeplessInEngland · 06/06/2022 21:14

The spin on news channels is insane, if expected. “This is a clear vote of confidence in our leader! It’s time to unite!”

the80sweregreat · 06/06/2022 21:14

Steve extreme sports Baker isn't a remainer !
He told him to sod off weeks ago

forinborin · 06/06/2022 21:17

Good. I am glad the vote was sensible.

mynamesnotMa · 06/06/2022 21:18

It says alot about Tory MPs that they are prepared to overlook his lack of integrity as well as any decent leadership qualities.

Porcupineintherough · 06/06/2022 21:18

pointythings · 06/06/2022 21:08

This is exactly the result I wanted - lots of division in the ranks and a damaged Tory PM. Excellent.

Absolutely agree.

the80sweregreat · 06/06/2022 21:19

They will all turn on each other like rats in a sack
Seen it all before ..

CapMarvel · 06/06/2022 21:20

Much closer than Boris would have expected. The clock is ticking.

That’s because they are, and always have been, the nasty party. But somewhere along the way the UK population decided to look the other way and keep voting the self-serving bastards in.

Peregrina · 06/06/2022 21:22

Don't forget that the anti-Johnson people were cleared out of the party at the last election. So these are supposedly people that approved of him. 41% is not good however they try to spin.

But for those of us who don't like Johnson, probably the best result.

lightand · 06/06/2022 21:23

This result is not going to help the Ukraine war situation, if Boris is seen by abroad as being a lame duck?

I dunno, Ukraine is a consensus issue in British politics. For all that Johnson's camp would like to portray his continuing premiership as important to the anti Putin effort, everyone who has any chance of being PM would take the same stance.

Well, maybe the Tories who supported him should have thought about that, and maybe he should have done the honourable thing and resigned.

BorisJohnsonatemyhampster · 06/06/2022 21:25

They’ve got the Tory MP for Blackpool on Sky News saying we need to draw a line under this and the Conservative party is the ‘natural party of government’. Does he think this is a dictatorship? Some of these newer Tory’s are properly insane. Tory HQ wheeling out all of the head banging loyalists to spin but it’s not working.

The byelections are going to be absolute fucking japes.

He's won

What is generally called a Pyrrhic victory

BorisJohnsonatemyhampster · 06/06/2022 21:27

As much as Tory’s want to make Ukraine an issue in this it isn’t. There’s consensus for the approach. Changing leader won’t change the approach so it’s not an issue.

AngeloMysterioso · 06/06/2022 21:27

I wonder if we’ll get told who voted how?

Schulte · 06/06/2022 21:30

‘maybe he should have done the honourable thing and resigned.’

He has never, not once in his life, done an honourable thing.

I want him gone. For good.

It is a secret ballot. Apparently the whips were annoyed that people might be lying to them Grin

Boris is PM backed up by a competent government, he could have a heart attack and everything should still run to plan.
He is not the fecking Emperor.
