I know, I know. Born into a life of privelage blah, blah, blah.. But it isn't a life they ask for.

Personally I think the children in the royal family should be kept out of the spotlight until they're adults and can decide what they want to do. They should just be kids until then. Maybe with the odd photo released with granny or whatever.
I can see history repeating itself with the 'rebel prince' that his uncle went through........I cant help but wonder what the hell his parents are thinking allowing this. 😳 It didnt work out well for Harry who was used to deflect attention away from the shit his brother was getting up to for years 😬

Who would we replace the royal family with as head of state? Assuming we need one looking at all the other counties in the world.

Not keen on the choices the "great" British public made for PM.

Can you imagine the waste of money spent on changing this? I think I'd rather have a far slimmed down monarchy that Charles is suggesting. Direct succession only. So Louis and Charlotte should in theory be self supporting. In practice I imagine they won't ever be.

And re. the OP, given how my 9 year old reacts sometimes being bored and tired etc. I am amazed Louis did so well.

The Monarchy can't be too slim that it becomes non-functioning.

They need 4 for the Councillors of State, so people who can stand in for the Monarch.

At the moment their at 8 Senior working Royals Inc HMQ. Charles & Camilla, Ann are all 70+.

In 25 years time William on the throne, Ed and Sophie retired or semi retired. No guarantee Camilla, or Ann will still be about.

Williams Councillors of State will be Kate and his 3 kids.

I honestly believe Charlotte and Louis will be expected to become full-time working Royals.

JustLyra · 07/06/2022 14:58

Williams Councillors of State will be Kate and his 3 kids.

Its four, plus the spouse of the monarch if they have one, so it’ll be Kate, the 3 children and the next in line, so Harry most likely unless he is removed from the line of succession (which is massively unlikely)

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 07/06/2022 15:01

Actually there’s no precedent for a Councillor of State being domiciled outside of the UK. They’ve always been working royals too.

Blossomtoes · 07/06/2022 15:03

Harry’s already a counsellor of state.

They haven’t always been working royals. The Earl of Harewood, for example, was absolutely not a working royal yet he was CoS for both the Queen and her father.

The thing that will tide them over is the large age difference between Charles and Edward.

Edward and Sophie will continue full time into Williams reign for that reason imo.

In 20 years time Charlotte and Louis will only be 26 and 24. they’re not likely to have working spouses by that point.

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 07/06/2022 15:08

Blossomtoes · 07/06/2022 15:03

Harry’s already a counsellor of state.

Because a) he hasn’t been removed yet, precisely because there is no precedent for it and b) if he were to be removed, the next in line is Andrew. And a non-working royal based, although not domiciled, outside of the UK, is preferable to someone who has just settled a sexual assault case.

JustLyra · 07/06/2022 15:09

Posted too soon - I think one of the big impacts is that the Cambridge children will have to be full time royals much younger than William and Harry were.

Itll be slim pickings for a little while when the older bunch are older and the younger bunch are too young to add spouses to the mix.

Quite. So a precedent has been set for the role to be held by someone resident outside the UK. It won’t be changed for the reasons you explain.

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 07/06/2022 15:27

I wouldn’t be so sure… at the moment, it would be the Queen forcing her grandson out, and in favour of someone with a toxic reputation. By the time William is King, Harry could have been living abroad for 20+ years and Andrew might well be dead. It’s not beyond the realms of possibility that William might decide to go to the next most senior working royal instead.

Dispensations/exceptions have been made before - for the Queen Mother, for example.

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 07/06/2022 15:28

That’s interesting - I didn’t know that.

Blossomtoes · 07/06/2022 15:30

That’s a very good point. Unfortunately Andrew’s got the longevity genes from both parents.

The CoS role has zero to do with working royals. It’s just about standing in for the Queen when she’s unable, that’s why there has to be two of them for everything. It doesn’t give them any real powers individually.

If Charles took the throne today then his CoS would be William, Harry, Andrew and Beatrice, plus Camilla as his spouse.

he would have to have the whole act, which is part of the Regency Act, changed to do that. He cannot simply decide to go for other people.

I didn’t say they couldn’t. Just that they’ll have to do it earlier than William and Harry.

DorritLittle · 07/06/2022 15:38

Oh FGS. There is no 'narrative' about Louis.

Yanbu. It’s horrible to watch. The newspapers and websites are using a tiny child’s natural frustrations with an unreasonable situation to make money.

Mocking and financially exploiting a four year old is never ok.

I feel so sorry for him. Everyone around him will insist that his life goes exactly like Harry’s.

Gonna have some major mental health issues and it’s all so avoidable 😢

You’re over reacting I think everyone could relate and found it humorous. No matter how ‘proper’ children are brought up they are children!

Mumontour85 · 07/06/2022 18:48

I dont think for a moment that Louis will turn into the self pitying, selfish man that Harry has become. 'Spare to the heir' or not, he will grow up very secure in his love and place in the world, hopefully with both parents there together, not cheating, warring and giving petty interviews to the press.
It seems to me that William and Catherine have a very loving home and they adore those kids.

They aren't just 'celebrity' kids, they are in line to the British throne. Unlike Harry and Meghan's irrelevant children (seems harsh but it is true!), these three will be senior, probably working royals for most of their lives. They don't get to to run away to Murica and hide.

They may wear suits in public, but they seem like happy, well rounded little ruffians, indicating they have as normal as home life as most kids.
As some other comments say, it is the 'insta models' making their kids live in a bleak beige world in order to get that 'perfect shot' that I feel sorry for!

lollipoprainbow · 07/06/2022 18:52

@Mumontour85 that's a bit much considering Harry lost his mum very young and she clearly adored him. Yes lucky Middleton kids won't have any of that plus they have loving grandparents on their dads side too more than a lot of children have.
