Who decided to exclude Adele, Ed Sheeran, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, shanties, Morris Dancers etc from the Jubilee Party?

Who made the decision to hire so many American performers and novices?

Andrea Bocelli was fantastic, but aren't there excellent British opera singers who could have participated e.g. Russell Watson?

What was the criteria for inclusion, who set it and why?

Diana Ross was not a good finale, it would have been better to have had perhaps all the company or a millitary choir singing "Isn't she lovely" or something similar

I agree, the finale was underwhelming

She wasn’t mimin.

Close to it. Look at the last line, she spreads her arms out with the mic in one hand and still 'sings'.

SilverTown · 05/06/2022 13:09

Record companies have a lot of sway in who plays at big variety events. There would have been all sorts of plugging going on for months to get some of those acts on stage.

Overall I thought it was good fun, and I don’t see why they should have had any more British /fewer American acts. Thank God there weren’t Morris dancers!

My only let down was Diana Ross for the finale. She’s obviously a bit past it. They should have brought Nile Rogers out with Chic and had a proper party ending.

Queen = too elderly to carry out all of her "role" MN fawn all over her. A singer, who needs help onto the stage doesn't meet their expectations- bitch about her all day. Is it because she's the paid entertainment? Or something else?

One was the monarch, and the event was in her honour. The other is an American singer. Can you really not see the difference?

One is 20 years older than the other.

I am surprised you were not consulted about your own personal playlist.

Also one stayed away because they knew they couldn't manage. The other turned up and did it badly. If you want to compare then you need to compare like for like.

autocollantes · 05/06/2022 13:17

What was the point of the show? To celebrate the queen's time on the throne or to play music the RF like?

Because if the former, some performers from across the commonwealth in there would have been brilliant. The songs don't have to be known by everyone, but it could have been possible to curate performers+numbers that were high energy so people could dance along.

I cannot see any reason why Alicia Keys (who I love) was performing. It's not anti-American to say we're going to focus on British and commonwealth artists for the Jubilee!

Ed sheeran was in Sunderland last night - already booked but he did cancel a show - i guess for today. It would of been already booked!!!! booked years ago

Yes, he cancelled Thursdays show, maybe to rehearse for today’s performance at the jubilee? Some friends of ours were due to go and were offered tickets for another night but couldn’t get a hotel room so couldn’t go.

PrivateHall · 05/06/2022 13:40

Thank God Alicia Keys was there, she was fabulous. I loved Queen too. Everything else was pretty awful!

PurpleButterflyWings · 05/06/2022 13:41

Who cares? 🙄 I am sick of Ed Sheeran and Adele, and Morris Dancers?! PMSL!!!

PMSL. The song 'isn't she lovely' is a song about a new born baby! 😂

Mick Jagger is in Munich. He was at the Englishergarten yesterday having a beer in the Biergarten. The Rolling Stones are playing a concert this evening at the Olympiastadion.

Why hasn't Penny Lancaster told Rod "Look love, enough is enough. Time to knock it on the head" ?

I was talking to my Dad about Rod and how he’s should pack it in. My Dad said ‘but he’s such a great showman’ so that’s ok then. 🤷‍♀️ No longer matters if these older rock and pop stars can sing or not. 😂

WindsweptNotInteresting · 05/06/2022 13:59

I thought Queen and Adam Lambert were great - I saw them live a few years back, and no he´s not Freddie, but he is a great showman and has a great voice.

Thank God they didn´t wheel Macca out again, he was so bloody dire last time. I also thought Elbow and Duran Duran were dull.
I was surprised by the lack of British singers from the other nations though, i.e. not from England, but perhaps that´s more to do with affiliation (or lack thereof) to the monarchy in those areas?
I liked the diversity of the performers generally, it´s the direction we need to move in and I´m glad to see it wasn´t just a bunch of stuffy middle aged or old white blokes (Paul McCartney, Cliff Richard etc).

Badbadbunny · 05/06/2022 14:01

One of the highlights was not having to listen to Adele's dreary songs.

CounsellorTroi · 05/06/2022 14:03

Nothing surpasses this for me. Dame Shirley Bassey, singing Diamonds are Forever at the Diamond Jubilee, aged 75.

I am guessing Adele and Sheeran either passed or were too expensive?

Youare wrong. Sheeran is on today

I read this as 'passed' in another sense and was amazed at how calm this thread was

Just to note the actual pageant kicks off at 14:30, the 'from 1pm' is likely to be a load of waffle first

Blast, and I've organised lunch to allow for a 1pm start Hmm
Should have known though ...

You and me both. Now sitting here bored of the waffling just waiting for those military bands to kick it off.

Ropesdope · 05/06/2022 14:08

God knows who invited Rod Stewart. The guy needs to retire.

Here's a thread if anyone wants to join in.

I watched with 16 year old DD and she loved Mabel, Diversity, the Mimi one, Jax Jones. We both enjoyed the musicals section, Sam Ryder. I loved Duran Duran but I am very much a child of the 80s.

Diana Ross and Rod Stewart are not my cup of tea but they have sold millions of records. I was worried that Diana was going to fall down the stairs at one point.

That Adam Lambert bloke with Queen, jesus he loves himself, not a particularly strong voice either, got the impression he’d be happiest in front of a mirror.

Oh I'm so glad somebody else sees what I see. He has been bigged up so much but I thought he was awful. His aesthetic (this may not be the right word Blush) doesn't fit with queen at all, his vocal is mediocre and his self love is off putting.

I think Adam Lambert is fabulous. He's made it quite clear he never wanted to be seen as a replacement for Freddie .

Shanties - weird
Ed sheeran - please no more
Morris dancing - weird, please stick to your are you local village type areas and don’t bother me
Macca - on tour and terrible live now
Adele - unreliable and probably in the US
Coldplay - oh god no
Florence - reckon it does not fit with her worldview, she will not be celebrating platty jubes
Robbie Williams- literally the worst live performer I’ve ever seen, plus he was doing a homecoming gig to people from stoke who don’t care if he sounds shit

^ This 100%

I didn't fancy the gig so didn't bother watching it.

glamourousindierockandroll · 05/06/2022 14:36

Harry Styles would have been good. Calvin Harris maybe? Labrinth?
