Who decided to exclude Adele, Ed Sheeran, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, shanties, Morris Dancers etc from the Jubilee Party?

Who made the decision to hire so many American performers and novices?

Andrea Bocelli was fantastic, but aren't there excellent British opera singers who could have participated e.g. Russell Watson?

What was the criteria for inclusion, who set it and why?

I am guessing Adele and Sheeran either passed or were too expensive?

Youare wrong. Sheeran is on today

Ed could change or arrange his dates.

That wouldn’t be that easy. Thousands of people would have made travel arrangements and hotel bookings to see him. And his wife has just had a baby, maybe he would quite like to have some time to spend with them too. I’d like to see him do something for the jubilee but it’s understandable if he doesn’t.

londonmummy1966 · 05/06/2022 12:40

I didn't watch all of it but what I did see seemed under rehearsed and given a PP mentioned that some acts weren't allowed to rehearse at all that doesn't surprise me. I do agree however that the organisers should have tried to stick to British/Commonwealth performers at such a showcase event - Andrea Bocelli is brilliant but there are plenty of very talented opera singers who could have been invited instead, and Alicia Keyes didn't need the exposure.

PaddingtonBearStareAgain · 05/06/2022 12:40

People RTFT (or at least the last few pages) Ed is playing today at the pagent!

Thatswhyimacat · 05/06/2022 12:41

I think performing at the jubilee is seen as a bit naff tbh.

Giraffesandbottoms · 05/06/2022 12:42

I had strong concerns re the lineup when the Eurovision guy was interviewed as a star of the show beforehand. I was asking DS “but how long ago did they plan this?! He only just came second! Had they planned it regardless, and he would have performed had he came 40th, or is this really so thrown together?!”

it doesn’t make loads of sense to me. It’s supposed to be a big deal and I only recognised about 1/3 of the performers.

I got confused and wondered why Ricky Gervais was there

😁

Honestly that lot (in your title) have been rolled out enough time over the years in various publicly organised concerts so it was nice to see some new faces.

Although Celeste was a bit marginal (being polite) and I was not impressed with Diana Ross miming but at 78 I guess you have to cut herself some slack.

She wasn’t mimin. At the concert she sang life, it was awful and out of tune. She couldn’t hear her self and was looking for help and fiddling with her radio Mike box, once she could hear herself it was good. Didn’t know she had been dubbed until got home.
everyone there was live, I wonder if everyone was prerecorded for the broadcast?

Cherryblossoms85 · 05/06/2022 12:49

Portishead, prodigy, garbage, manic Street Preachers, Duffy, pretenders might have made things a bit more regional. Most probably didn't want to or not really with it any more.

jubileetrain · 05/06/2022 12:49

Definitely not, otherwise Rod Stewart would have sounded ok.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 05/06/2022 12:50

i dont think rod stewart would have sounded ok pre recorded!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 05/06/2022 12:50

was it one band/orchestra?

perhaps that was the reasoning?

NoSquirrels · 05/06/2022 12:54

Thats what I thought watching it at home. She gestured to someone, fiddled with her mike box a lot, and after the first song it was noticeably fixed. We joked to each other at home that someone would be losing their head over the sound issues as she’s a notorious diva… I didn’t think she was shit, I thought there was a technical problem and I’m surprised the thread got this far without someone else seeing it too!

😂 I thought he was ok. They were all just ok to be honest, other than Andrea Bocelli who was fantastic as always.

mustlovegin · 05/06/2022 12:55

you couldn't have trusted Adele to show up

She could have sent a video like they did with Elton John. She was certainly more deserving than some of the others

Why hasn't Penny Lancaster told Rod "Look love, enough is enough. Time to knock it on the head" ?

emuloc · 05/06/2022 12:58

I would have really liked to have seen Stormzy perform. I did not know who some of the performers were. The man singing the Queen song, was imo quite poor.

Abraxan · 05/06/2022 12:58

Ed Sheeran is playing today at the lunch pageant thing.
He is in tour and was in stage yesterday in Sunderland.

whatistheworld · 05/06/2022 12:58

Ed sheeran was in Sunderland last night - already booked but he did cancel a show - i guess for today. It would of been already booked!!!! booked years ago

Abraxan · 05/06/2022 13:01

I suspect a lot of the others are on tour, especially on a summer Saturday evening. Lots of these concerts will be rearranged from covid so probably not quite so easy to cancel and postpone yet again.

mustlovegin · 05/06/2022 13:02

Theres always someone I don’t particularly enjoy in a variety show but that’s when I pop to the loo

There would have been many trips to the loo last night then😆

I’m waiting for someone twist this into being Meghan’s fault.

There was a snippy comment on one of the telly threads last night about "gosh, aren't there a lot of non white women singing" that tried to derail the thread into race territory but everyone was worried Diana Ross was going to weeble off the stage into the crowds by that point. And when it all suddenly went blank, I thought she had.
Then it looked like someone with a clipboard had messed the running order up when they did the National anthem and then some whippersnappers came out to jiggle and thrust. That was when I expected Mr. Grecian 2000 Macca to start na-na-ing till the news came on.
Duran Duran were atrocious. Bryan May should have just done his thing on his own, I enjoyed Diversity far more than I imagined I would, Alicia Keys is a damn fine singer, Bocelli is a Covid denier so no longer gets my vote, and One Day Like This is still one of my favourite songs.
