Queens Jubilee Concert - What a Wonderful World.

I mean, that's supposed to be a happy soulful song. She shouted it and didn't smile once. Such a shame

I def read on Friday that it was the og's performing. It was in the Guardian I think. Did they perform at the Platinum Jubilee lunch? Maybe that's where I was getting mixed up
I did think last night that the Queens didn't look like they had in the photo in the article.

The original queens are performing at Hampton Court Palace this month - perhaps that was what the article was about.

Please tell me Carrie hope frigging fletcher has been kept far away from six?! 😂

dworky · 05/06/2022 10:45

You're criticising Celeste when Rod Stewart butchered Sweet Caroline & John Newman barely hit a note?
Bizarre.

Never heard of Celeste, so I thought she was flat at first, then I started to think it was intentional and really enjoyed it.

I'm actually starting to like Prince Charles, so that's a bit weird.

carbay · 05/06/2022 10:55

No help with schools I'm afraid. Soz!

@JojoWiloLula
Are you on the wrong thread ?

NosyJosie · 05/06/2022 10:59

Rod Stewart with his totty was a bit cringe and outdated for me and I’ve heard better versions of Sweet Caroline outside kebab shops at 2am.
Regardless, both him and Diana Ross are well into their 70s and if I look and sound anything nearly as good as DR when I am 78, I’ll be pleased as punch.

Celeste looked and sounded amazing. The arrangement of the song was such that the orchestra had a leading role to go with that whole lightshow and maybe it didn’t translate to TV well but you can’t fault her voice. She is one of the most exciting jazz and RnB singers in the U.K. Would have loved to hear it at the venue.

It was lovely to see such a spread of artists for all age groups and even if I found some of them awful, I’m sure others were delighted and vice versa.

I've loved the whole jubilee vibe and makes a nice change from endless police dramas on the telly.

SleepSleepRaveAsleep · 05/06/2022 11:13

@NosyJosie Diana Ross was miming/using her backing singers to carry her, there was a moment where she went from "singing" to asking the crowd "are you singing" and her mic was turned right down to the point you could barely hear her, not the same volume as she'd just been "singing" at! Clearly not really singing, just going through the motions with the mic barely on, meanwhile the backing track/backing singers actually do the singing!

Forinara · 05/06/2022 11:18

It was all fell a bit flat and felt like a Eurovision-style odd mishmash of acts (other than the overall theatrical lighting and the historian's background footage which was arguably the main point of the event). The starting act showed a real lack of judgment as there are surely better stand in's for Freddie available on the pub circuit? Elton did well but he never had the pressure of performing live.

thereisonlyoneofme · 05/06/2022 11:18

Chemenger they were all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order😁

Forinara · 05/06/2022 11:21

I deliberately watched it on iplayer this morning. I was not going to waste my time on 80% plus of it by watching it live!

JennyJumpsuit · 05/06/2022 11:25

I quite liked it. So did dd. Dh thought it was horrific. Seems to be a bit marmite as a performance

Elton is amazing, I don't think singing live would phase him in the slightest, remember Diana's funeral?

Nipper50 · 05/06/2022 11:39

Although I am a long retired music teacher, I'd never heard of Celeste, but had just tuned in to the Jubilee concert only to find someone murdering a lovely song - she was flat, out of tune and would surely have got "Nil points" on the Eurovison Song Contest with this awful rendering.

Laydeeblablah · 05/06/2022 11:43

Glad I wasn’t the only one who was disappointed with the Celeste performance. The pitchiness was so distracting. Must have been a technical problem.

Innocenta · 05/06/2022 11:46

God, I can't stand Adam Lambert. Nobody compares with Freddie. I hate how the others in Queen are trying to milk every last £.

theworldhas · 05/06/2022 11:49

Seems the consensus is that the best bits of the party was a rock band that’s been without their lead singer for 30 years, plus a 2 minute kids cartoon skit. Hope they gave out some decent goody bags at least?

SayMumOneMoreTime · 05/06/2022 11:53

Sounded to me like she was nervous and the monitoring was poor. Such a huge event for her, massive pressure. How many of those criticising would fare any better in the circumstances? If extremely experienced artists like Diana Ross and Rod Stewart struggled then it's not surprising Celeste did too.

The fault probably lies with the scale of the event. It's just not possible to get the sound perfect under those parameters.

He's not trying to be Freddie though. When he first collaborated with Queen he said he is not a Freddie impersonator, he is not going to try and mimic Freddie as no one ever could. That's why they perform and tour as "Queen with Adam Lambert" and not just Queen.

His voice is outstanding though. Absolutely outstanding voice.

NosyJosie · 05/06/2022 11:53

Props to Lee Mack for his party gate reference in front of that buffoon Boris. Who invited him? If my grandmother had buried her husband alone because of him and behaving like he has, not sure he’d have been invited to her jubilee.

Adam Lambert isn't a stand in for Freddie. It has never been like that. Queen asked him to join them, and they tour as Queen and Adam Lambert. He is not a tribute act to Freddie, he is an amazing singer in his own right.

SoupDragon · 05/06/2022 11:59

the scale of the event has nothing to do with the awful arrangement of the song.

I think tbf a lot of people are criticising all of them, and some people are saying Celeste had sound issues.

Oh well. We all like different things

Adam Lambert has a phenomenal voice and is a star in his own right. He has never ONCE said or implied that he's a replacement for Freddie Mercury
