Queens Jubilee Concert - What a Wonderful World.

I mean, that's supposed to be a happy soulful song. She shouted it and didn't smile once. Such a shame

I've seen Celeste on Jools Holland and thought she had a good, unusual voice, but it didn't work for her last night. She seems to be firmly in the BBC rota so I doubt that is the last chance she will get.

I'm not suprised Adele wasn't there after the Las Vegas disaster, she's unreliable. With so many acts on one after another they probably had to go for reliability over fame (Craig David come on down) 😅

DisforDarkChocolate · 05/06/2022 09:18

I thought she was fabulous, a wonderful distinctive voice.

Rod Stewart on the other hand, bloody awful. Still not as bad as Paul McCartney last time.

Willyoujustbequiet · 05/06/2022 09:20

@Oblomov22

Sam Ryder was at the Jubilee concert and was amazing. Think you have your Sam's mixed up!

The lighting was spectacular and some acts superb but it fell very flat at the end with a lacklustre finale - why the hell they didn't have a British act/rousing British song absolutely baffles me.

SoupDragon · 05/06/2022 09:24

Elton was pre-recorded because he was on tour. He was performing in Milan.

Ed Sheeran was performing in Sunderland.

I really hate Celeste's version of Wonderful World, even though her voice is great. It was just all wrong. Maybe more because they messed with the arrangement of a perfect song.

PoloMintPatty · 05/06/2022 09:24

@Oblomov22 Sam Fender ❤️

SpindleForTheWorld · 05/06/2022 09:25

I thought that, @Blueeyedgirl21 - if even the great Guy Garvey was bothering his earpiece, then there was a sound problem. Poor Celeste. And all the others who struggled through their songs. I doubt they're unaware of the reaction(s) to their 'Jemini' moments.

Good shout about needing the Proclaimers at the end!

At least it wasn't David Hasselhoff.

@HearMeSnore

"I also think Sam Ryder would have been incredible doing Freddie Mercury's part instead of Adam Lambert."

I'm afraid Sam Ryder couldn't have done it. Because he was at the Emirates, supporting The Killlers.

As a PP said, that was Sam Fender.

PaddingtonBearStareAgain · 05/06/2022 09:26

Ed Sheeran is playing today as is Shirley Bassey, apparently.

That's Sam Fender, so stop trying to be a smart arse.

WiseRobin · 05/06/2022 09:29

@HearMeSnore we said the same about Sam Ryder being an awesome Freddie! What a voice!

Rod Stewarts 3 blonde bombshell backing singers was so dated!

Yes! But my children said the 80's are back in style 😂

ItsSnowJokes · 05/06/2022 09:31

I had not heard of Celeste before (but I am ancient!) and I said to my husband she has an amazing voice for someone who is part of the deaf community (I have partial hearing) and I was so pleased. Then he says she isn't deaf she just has terrible diction. Kinda ruined that 😂

For me Q+AL should have ended the show. I loved seeing Diana Ross but she looked unsteady on her feet, had massive microphone and earpiece issues (could see her constantly fiddling with her mic pack) and her lip synching in places was terrible.

EinsteinaGogo · 05/06/2022 09:32

Sam Ryder was INCREDIBLE.

It was a joy to watch. His delight at being there was infectious - I also didn't know he could play guitar, let alone like that!

Regarding those who were flat; I did see many of the performers fiddling with their ear pieces frequently so maybe they weren't working well? That's got to be so hideous for a performer.

Bbq1 · 05/06/2022 09:34

HintofVintagePink · 04/06/2022 22:42

Had no idea who she was. Or the 6 wives things. I’m not particularly old, but I just did not get it

You don't know Six?! That was a highlight for me. It was great to see the original Queens. It's an incredible musical.

Coastalcreeksider · 05/06/2022 09:36

This is usually the type of thing I don't bother to watch but I did watch this and I have to say, I quite enjoyed pretty much all of it.

I thought Diversity (never seen them before) were great, Alicia Keys always liked her voice, enjoyed Duran Duran and although not a fan of Elbow, they were also very good.

I muted George Ezra once he said Shotgun was next, Rod wasn't that brilliant and I don't actually like the song Sweet Caroline, the three women singers were too shouty for me but I didn't actually mind Celeste's version of Wonderful World once she got underway.

Absolutely loved the lighting effects especially the horse, fantastic, big well done to all the crew for that, brilliant show.

mustlovegin · 05/06/2022 09:36

This happened to me as well. I was shocked.

LabradorsInThePond · 05/06/2022 09:37

Queen was awesome, such a good opener. Sam Ryder was great. He’s such a charismatic performer. For a while, he ran the little organic cafe in our village, and sometimes used to busk at the rec. I remember sitting listening to him with my babies in a buggy and he always made me feel better. He really is that smiley in real life!

Oblomov22 · 05/06/2022 09:41

Apologies. Was Sam Fender!

anotherbrewplease · 05/06/2022 09:41

Totally that!!!

I thought the rest of the show was fantastic - very impressed with the lightshow etc. Really spectacular!

Duran Duran were surprisingly right on it - likewise Nile Rodgers. I missed Celeste, so can't comment. But agree that Rod Stewart has gone off the boil.

Maybe should have had Tom Jones - he's an old rocker who can still belt it out!

Musicalmaestro · 05/06/2022 09:42

I really liked Celeste’s performance. I get that people may have expected something different and would have liked a rousing singalong, but I enjoyed the different arrangement, and thought it went well with the light show.

Realitea · 05/06/2022 09:43

You can see Celeste is extremely nervous during that performance and I would be too. The arrangement and lighting was very good. I didn’t think she was out of tune but sounded slightly flat probably due to nerves.

Onlyforcake · 05/06/2022 09:44

Woman doesn't smile, society is enraged 🙄

cottagegardenflower · 05/06/2022 09:44

I didn't watch it but flicked the tv over just as someone was singing wonderful world. Switched it over immediately. It was awful, what was that all about?

anotherbrewplease · 05/06/2022 09:44

@Pinkflipflop85

😂😂 at the smartarse comment - very funny - thanks for that

They are amazing, but that wasn't the original 6 queens last night.
