Queens Jubilee Concert - What a Wonderful World.

I mean, that's supposed to be a happy soulful song. She shouted it and didn't smile once. Such a shame

Had no idea who she was. Or the 6 wives things. I’m not particularly old, but I just did not get it

I am particularly old, pre HM as Queen (!), I found myself watching names I'd only heard on Pointless!

TroysMammy · 05/06/2022 09:51

I'm hearing impaired and I thought she was hearing impaired too as she sounded so flat. Louis Armstrong did it so much better.

LadyEloise1 · 05/06/2022 09:52

I thought it was just me.
Glad others thought the same.

AngeloMysterioso · 05/06/2022 09:58

There were definitely several names who were only there to try and get the kids watching. You could see people in the audience thinking “who the fuck is Mimi Webb?!”

Whatafool123 · 05/06/2022 10:00

I'm glad it wasn't just me. I thought it was maybe the arrangement as she clearly has a good voice. But it did sound all wrong.

Blueeyedgirl21 · 05/06/2022 10:02

I actually thought Mimi Webb was quite good. My niece is 12 and really likes her.

we can’t just wheel out Ed sheeran and Tom Jones every time!

ilikemethewayiam · 05/06/2022 10:04

Absolutely dreadful. She looked thoroughly bored and she destroyed what was a wonderfully uplifting song. How was a 96 year old supposed to ‘get’ her style.

she wasn’t the worse though. Rod Stewart should have been put out of his misery or at least arrested for the murder of sweet Caroline!

why on earth were these people chosen when there is so much more talent out there.

Nothappyatwork · 05/06/2022 10:04

LaurieFairyCake · 04/06/2022 22:54

I loved Rod Stewart singing the Queens favourite song

Sweet Caroline is the Queens favourite?

or Baby Jane ?

CanaryShoulderedThorn · 05/06/2022 10:05

Some of those acts must have bloody good agents. I mean Nicola Roberts? Really?
I would have definitely replaced Rod Stewart with Tom Jones as well.
Diversity were amazing as always.

CanaryShoulderedThorn · 05/06/2022 10:07

Wonder if Florence and the machine were asked?

LowlandLucky · 05/06/2022 10:09

Have no idea who she is but she was bloody awful, looked totally spaced out.

WiseRobin · 05/06/2022 10:10

I was cringing slightly when they wheeled Diana Ross out and then her song choice of Chain Reaction, knowing what it’s about, double cringe!

Surely we have plenty of British artists who could have performed so much better for the show finale! I get that Charles is a fan and Diana Ross is an icon but still…..

I thought the start to Celeste’s version of Wonderful World was a bit shaky but once it got going I did enjoy it and thought she had a great voice!

Rod was bloody awful, that husky voice now sounds like he’s out of breath and it doesn’t pack a punch, I felt like he needed more oxygen when he was singing Sweet Caroline, get him off! Never been a fan though!

I LOVED the song from Hamilton, never seen the show, thought it was great, Duran Duran were great, Alicia Keys, amazing Sam Ryder and Queen, who should have ended the show! Diversity were amazing, the guy who performed the sports poem, brill!

The light show was amazing, loved it! The drones over the palace, wow!

Glad I watched it all! Particularly moving for me was the scene with The Queen sitting with Paddington and then tapping out the start of We will rock you! Loved this!

Highlyquestionablehoumous · 05/06/2022 10:12

If you have a telly then you will know Celeste - it was her singing on that 'let's go Smudge' Peloton advert that was on every 5 seconds during lockdown!

EinsteinaGogo · 05/06/2022 10:14

I've just watched
Celeste's performance on YouTube because is this post.

I thought she was excellent. She's got a unique style and her voice is very evocative.

Definitely nervous at the beginning but warmed up brilliantly.

The lighting and production was superb too.

Pinkflipflop85 · 05/06/2022 09:47

They are amazing, but that wasn't the original 6 queens last night.

I def read on Friday that it was the og's performing. It was in the Guardian I think. Did they perform at the Platinum Jubilee lunch? Maybe that's where I was getting mixed up
I did think last night that the Queens didn't look like they had in the photo in the article.

AngeloMysterioso · 05/06/2022 10:18

Some of those acts must have bloody good agents. I mean Nicola Roberts?

I thought that too… poor woman was completely out of her depth with that song anyway, but put her next to the other 2 and she really didn’t stand a chance did she?

StarTwins · 05/06/2022 10:19

I do love The Proclaimers but I can’t see them doing a Jubilee celebration event! Perhaps they could have played Cap in Hand…

You and me both. Blush

brokengoalposts · 05/06/2022 10:27

No comment about her singing but I bloody loved her red dress, if anyone knows where it's from, I'd love to know? Probably out of my price range but I can but dream.

I've never looked at the full lyrics either 😂 The second verse is particularly obvious 🤣🤣

whynotwhatknot · 05/06/2022 10:32

Ye steps did a cover of chain r4eaction i didnt know what it was about till a few years ago

i know they wanted a rang of performers but some of the younger ones fell really flat

Chemenger · 05/06/2022 10:37

Celeste was flat and out of tune throughout. Stewart Heritage in the Guardian summed it up nicely:
“And now Celeste is here to perform the biggest feat of the night: singing What a Wonderful World without using any of the actual notes from What a Wonderful World.”

onlywork55 · 05/06/2022 10:37

I saw her interview at the start and thought she seemed incredibly nervous, that also showed in her performance IMO.

I thought the Diana Ross ending was a bit odd!

RoseLunarPink · 05/06/2022 10:37

I agree Celeste sounded flat (though maybe not her fault, I also noticed Adam lambert trying to fix his earpiece at the start) and her style didn’t work for that song. I’d have done it as a medley with all the best singers from the evening having a verse.

I watched it all and was overall impressed, someone with a lot of organisational skills did a lot of work to make it hang together as well as it did, which is not always the case with these things. Even rod Stewart surprised me - his voice was weaker but he had great presence and got everyone going. My fave bits were Andrea, what a pro and presence, Queen, and Duran Duran with Nile, that was fab (can you tell I’m a child of the 70s/80s).

george Ezra was a low point, like listening to someone mumble a song along to the radio while making toast. His voice was so not suited to the big crowd event. Though maybe there were sound issues there too.
