Booing Boris. AIBU to say he deserved it?

I'm not a boo-er, it doesn't come naturally to me. Yet thinking of the photo of the queen, alone, at her husband's funeral contrasted with his snivelling 'apology' for tolerating depraved behaviour in his workplace together with his other contemptuous behaviour over the course of parliament, I'd have found it hard to resist. His presence just seems like adding more insult to injury.

Johnson's arrival at the concert last night

Filmed by someone who follows Keir Starmer and Ian Dunt etc...

Are you by implication saying that the booing didn’t occur and was edited in to make it look like he was booed? If so what evidence do you actually have rather than hoping it’s the case?

SueSaid · 05/06/2022 13:11

Would be ironic if Kier Starmer has to resign over a fine and Boris Johnson were to win a vote of no confidence.
Might be an interesting week ahead and the jubilee will be long forgotten.

It would be very ironic and rather amusing too.

artisanbread · 05/06/2022 13:12

Behaviours in Parliament (in and out of the chamber) are bloody awful and an embarrassment. Do all Chambers bellow at each other or do other nations have a more orderly arrangement?

The House if Commons is tiny compared to most other parliamentary buildings. Most other countries have a larger circular or se.i-circular chamber designed with discussion and consensus in mind. I'm sure arguing still breaks out but the very design of the House of Commons (narrow, facing each other) is set up for the opposing parties to shout at one another. There is a lot of history and tradition involved that are quite archaic now.

L1ttledrummergirl · 05/06/2022 13:13

I think so @jgw1 the thing is people don't need to be wound up, we are already angry. The frustration is being unable to do anything and having an MP who is useless and up his arse.

LizzieW1969 · 05/06/2022 13:13

People don’t like being told that it’s ‘time to move on’. I’ll ‘move on’ when I’m ready to do so, and that won’t be until after BoJo has resigned. You might feel happy to ‘move on’, but it really isn’t your place to tell others that they must.

I think personally that the more BoJo and his cronies tell people that the ‘British people’ want to ‘move on’, the more those who hate him will dig their heals in.

God, how many times can the words 'boo/booed' be said in one thread. It's rather taken over from birthday cake hasn't it.

Notonthestairs · 05/06/2022 13:14

Thatcher resigned 8 days after winning her vote of no confidence. May went 6 months after winning her vote.

Once party divisions are out in the open it seems quite difficult for a PM to regroup.

One. Gosh, he was very loud.

Did he come with friends, or is he a 'loner'? More than happy for you to link to anyone else identified from the crowd.

Oh Clav, are you really this desperate?

It’s almost as old hat as Johnson apologists pretending it was all about cake.

Thatcher resigned because her Cabinet refused to support her any longer. So she was left with no choice but to resign.

Most other countries have a larger circular or se.i-circular chamber designed with discussion and consensus in mind

MPs should be able to sit in such a semi circle and should sit depending on how far apart their views are from each other.

We have an adversarial set up - although I think the distance between the Front Benches is designed to be just a bit more than 2 sword lengths? For some reason

www.parliament.uk/about/how/role/customs/

Members may speak only from where they were called, which must be within the House. They may not speak from the floor of the House between the red lines (traditional supposed to be two sword-lengths apart)

Notonthestairs · 05/06/2022 13:18

I've gone down a rabbit hole of parliamentary buildings and agree @artisanbread - a large semi circular design would serve better. It's interesting how the environment might impact on behaviours.

TBF - it is the title of the thread.

I guess you read the title before commenting?

This Government is fond of words and phrases and utilised them heavily at every opportunity throughout Brexit, the elections and the Pandemic - so you can’t be surprised when people follow their lead...

artisanbread · 05/06/2022 13:21

Wouldn't want them jabbing each other with swords during a debate on fuel prices I suppose. Too distracting.

Do you think it would make people less angry? Because I can assure you it wouldn’t.

@JaniieJones Can you supply us with a handy list of synonyms for boo, so we can vary the words we use?

BTW am I right in thinking like covid laws booing doesn't count unless it lasts more than 20 minutes?

SleeplessInEngland · 05/06/2022 13:23

A lot of African and Eastern European parliamentary debates descend into outright brawls. I admire that, there’s an honesty to it.

Boris is different.

He has no morals.

cakeorwine · 05/06/2022 13:25

Just waiting for booing to be banned by this Government.

It wouldn't surprise me

The funny thing is Downing Street and CCHQ don't seem to be able to read the mood of the country. As one can see from their representatives on here.

GeidiPrimes · 05/06/2022 13:31

I googled "Boris boo'd" and got many results. Including a boo for Boris on Tuesday evenings. I had to narrow it down to 2022 to find "Boris boo'd at the platty joobs".

It's a thread about booing a disgraceful politician. What terms are we allowed to use to describe him? Shall we go all tabloid and call him the Lie Minister??

DuncinToffee · 05/06/2022 13:33

Government is fond of 3 word slogans so Boos for Boris or Boo Boris Boo fits right in with that

Johnson's arrival at the concert last night

Filmed by someone who follows Keir Starmer and Ian Dunt etc...

Does the real life sound change dependent on who is filming then?

So the person sat next door to them who is a Tory supporter would have for a different sound effect?

It's such a weak argument to think the filmed can change the real life audio
