Clotted cream

No clotted cream in our local M&S left today 🙈 my scones will have to have butter on them tomorrow. Think M&S should have foreseen mad rush for clotted cream and stocked up. Devastated. AIBU? The only other local shop I have is Aldi so will walk with baby and try them later.

Just whip up some double

GirlInACountrySong · 02/06/2022 12:45

Asda delivery due and they have subbed my butter with buttery flora.

They can have that back!

ColettesEarrings · 02/06/2022 12:46

Devastated?! 😂😂😂😂

Erm... maybe you should have too?

Natsku · 02/06/2022 12:48

You can make it yourself, looked into it once because they don't sell clotted cream over here though haven't actually bothered to try making it yet.

Toddlerteaplease · 02/06/2022 12:49

Scones are better with just butter!

You are right!! But I have the baby and everything is a bit last minute at the moment 😅

Squirty cream from a can if you can't get any to whip?

SiobhanSharpe · 02/06/2022 12:55

Deliveroo groceries? If you can add enough items for the minimum order.
(you could have stocked up -- it lasts for ages)
But I feel your pain - seems ocado have substituted my order of M and S meringue nests today for vastly more expensive ones. I'll take them as I agreed to make Eton Mess desserts for a jubilee barbecue.

blue421 · 02/06/2022 13:01

I have clotted cream bought earlier in the week but our big Tesco was completely out of double cream last night. Clearly there's a lot of creamy plans for the Jubilee (in a non x-rated way).

Megapint · 02/06/2022 13:05

It's pretty easy to make. Couple of large cartons of double cream. Shallow dish, bake for 12hrs on low leave to cool. Proper job clotted cream👊

Helenahandkart · 02/06/2022 13:13

Can’t believe there are people on this thread saying that whipping up double cream, or using - god forbid - squirty cream, would be an acceptable substitute for clotted cream.
Clotted cream has a completely different taste, weight and texture to other types of cream.
Don’t get me wrong - all cream is good cream, but clotted cream is in a league of its own and should never ever be substituted for, especially when scones are involved.
Better to throw your scones in the bin.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 02/06/2022 13:14

Better still a couple of cartons of jersey double cream if you can get them
More butterfat equals more clotted cream at the end, and you can never have too much clotted cream Grin

My friend's order arrived this morning MINUS the SCONES Shock

Nightmare.

lurchermummy · 02/06/2022 13:18

I just bought some in the garden centre food hall.

PamDenick · 02/06/2022 13:19

Don’t blame M and S. there is a problem with the supplier who just can’t keep up with demand this weekend. Don’t bother trying to get it elsewhere.

Agree. I don't eat sweet things with cream or whipped cream but clotted cream with jam on a scone is delicious. They're very different things.

Thanks to the PP who mentioned that it's made in a low oven.

That’s a blessing - store bought scones are gross! And they’re so easy to make.

Try soured cream. You will not regret it.

fufulina · 02/06/2022 13:24

You can make clotted cream - BBC good Food has the instructions. A shed load of cream, in a double boiler for 3 hours.

Whipping up some scones couldn’t be easier. They’ve done her a favour, home made are a million times better.

ancientgran · 02/06/2022 13:28

I've got a Sainsbury's delivery later, the only thing that they can't send me is carrots. I ordered loose and apparently I ticket the no substitutions so I have no carrots.

Not quite as serious as clotted cream.

I popped into Lidl earlier to get some fresh bread (we have people staying and have got through alot) and it was like the mad Christmas shop. Empty shelves and crowded with shoppers. I don't think supermarkets are even closed over the weekend are they so not sure what the panic is all about.
